  • I just bought a cheap 3.50$ yo-yo 3 weeks ago that isn't really good, but I really find yo-yoing fun and want to get a better yo-yo. I was thinking of getting a GrandYo. Do you think that I should or is going for a higher end plastic one a better idea for the long run? What would you suggest?

  • @dylmm From what I can tell the GrandYo is an unresponsive yoyo. If you are just getting into yoyoing this would make using it very frustrating until you have mastered some basic string tricks. Instead I would get a mid-range plastic yoyo ($10-$20) like a Freehand or - if you live in the US - our own Luminator (Advanced Kit). Once you have mastered the basics of string tricks I would then move on to an unresponsive yoyo.

  • Hi, I just got back into YoYoing a couple days ago when my friend bought his yoyo. So I was going o invest some money into getting a good yoyo, I have come up with 2 different choices, a newer yoyo by YoYojam called the C-Force I believe it is Alex Hattori's signature yoyo and it looks like a good choice, and the SR-71 also by YoYo jam. Which one should I go with? If you could get back to me with some answers, that would be great! Thanks

  • @MrDarkvoid10 Personally, I am not a fan of the plastic-metal hybrid yoyo; they tend to be better in concept than execution, and not nearly as durable as other yoyos at a comparable price point. I would lean more in the YoYoFactory direction for either a high end plastic yoyo (the Northstar, for example) or a low end metal yoyo (the DV888). Among these two I would take the Northstar any day.

    Hope this helps!

(Also, YoYoSkills has a review on the SR-71 if you are interested, he loves it.)

  • @yotricks Okay thank you so much! i really appreciate it!

  • do the around the world that was very easy:)

  • @yotricks pleace watch these /watch?v=o-dqtfmIs2I and tell me what yoyos is he using?

  • @lolplayism Considering the guy is a YoYoFactory guy most likely he is using Loop 900 yoyos.

  • SOOOO HARD. This is the impossible for me and I don't know why, I throw it and it eaither just comes straight back to my hand or loops outbut spins so I can't do a second loop. I have been trying forever with yomega fireball, raider, and maverick and none of those work but they should, shouldn't they?

  • @TheCam432 Looping is hard to learn, but the Yomega Fireball and Raider are some of the best looping yoyos on the market (not the Maverick, definitely not the Maverick). The key - besides a ridiculous amount of practice - is to make sure they are properly lubed. If you have brain lube that should be perfect, but if not you can get some Super Lube from us on YoTricks, or use some Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline). When the yoyos are properly lubed they should be very responsive, then it will be easier.

  • can i loop with proyo Duncan YoYo?

  • @TheMastorio Yes, the Duncan Proyo - even though it does not have a bearing - is a great yoyo for looping.

  • @tiotiosh Looping is incredibly difficult with the dark magic 2.

  • 1 loop, 2 loop, 3 loop awww shucks

  • I use a Fireball, and it keeps going UFO while i loop. same thing for Hop the Fence.

  • @Bwxp2 This is not at all unusual when you are learning these tricks, so don't feel to frustrated about it. A good deal of practice should iron that out. Make sure that you are holding the yoyo in your hand properly when you throw it and just keep at it and you will have it in no time. Also, be sure that your yoyo is properly lubed so that it is very responsive, this helps a lot.

  • @yotricks so looping tricks -yoyo- has a short string or t's just so responsive that it comes back when there is a pull onn it ?

  • @FahadBowler A looping yoyo does not need a shorter string, but it does need to be very responsive. Some players do like a shorter string, however.

  • @yotricks i really wanted to buy the dominator and the luminator from your site: yotricks.com but there is a problem i can't order them because i live in the netherlands and you only send to USA, canada, purto rico. if there is no way i can buy these yoyo's, then can you please advise which yoyo i should buy. i'm kind of an beginner but i'm able to do multiple tricks and my sleeper with my really bad yoyo is quite long. i want a yoyo with a really long sleeper, and not too expensive. PLZ help.

  • @MV4got2aim Send us an email through the contact page on YoTricks letting us know where you live and what you would like to order and we will get back to you with the cost of shipping and how you can place your order.

  • does an duncan imperial work?????

  • @beller23306 The Duncan Imperial does not work well, but with a little effort it can be used to do this trick.

  • Which is better freehand zero or velocity.

I'm able to loop already starring string tricks

    Plaese reply asap

  • @timmythetank23 If you are just getting into string tricks the velocity is a much better choice.

  • Oh,One more question. Why all of your yoyo's are so low-priced? Because, for 6 bucks you can buy from YYF or from YYJ something that is really bad quality, and you are selling a pretty good yoyo for 6 bucks? Is it about brand??

  • @SkaterNamedLnxX It is about brand, yes.

  • + i learned the inside loop from first 5 tries :-D . It doesn't even hit me in the face :D

  • Hello YoTricks. :) I am very good at string tricks (1A) and now i want to try something new ,so i bought a looping yoyo. And it's the Firedog by YoYo Factory. Is it a good looping Yo-Yo for beginning? It can loop pretty good ,but the sleeptime is 6-12 seconds. What's with the Dominator? Is it better for looping??

  • @SkaterNamedLnxX The Dominator is a good looping yoyo like the Firedog, but it also has a ball bearing so it can sleep longer. When the Dominator is properly lubed it is one of the best yoyos on the market to learn how to loop.

  • @yotricks I heard that Loop 900 is very good. (YYF)

  • @SkaterNamedLnxX It is good for advanced two-handed tricks, but I am not so sure it is good for people just learning how to loop.

  • While practicing this trick I came up with a new trick: Throw it out infront of you as when you start a loop, recall it back to your hand, don't catch it (on purpose obviously) hit yourself in the head with it and then drop it on your toes.

I call it: Screw this I'm done.

  • @Tradegyxz Ha! I'm sure your new trick will catch on quickly!

  • I don't know if its me but when i loop the string about an inch from my finger snaps and my yoyo goes flying. I've already gone through 4 strings.

  • @vexer117 It sounds like you might be using 100% cotton strings, these break very quickly. I recommend 50% cotton 50% polyester strings as they are much stronger and will not break nearly so often. If you cannot find any they are available on YoTricks.

  • Can i use wd40 to make it more responsive?

  • @KISB16 No, WD40 will not make it more responsive. Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) works better. Put a little on the plastic bearing seat (where the bearing touches the yoyo) and this should help a great deal.

  • what is the difference between a yo yo that is unresponsive and a yo yo that sleeps

  • @magicsinmyfingers All unresponsive yoyos sleep, but not all yoyos that sleep are unresponsive. A yoyo is "unresponsive" if, while it is still sleeping, it will not return to your hand when you pull it back up.

    Hope this helps!

  • can i do it with spinning yoyo?

  • @lolplayism You can learn to loop with a yoyo that sleeps, but you cannot learn to loop with an unresponsive yoyo.

  • i can learn looping with a fast 201 yoyo?

  • @robertcsegedi1 It would be possible to learn to loop with a fast 201, but it would not be easy. The wide shape of that yoyo makes it difficult to loop.

  • @yotricks now that we are talking about fast 201 yoyo... would you say that it generaly is a good yoyo for beginners?

  • @MrAndreasHD Yes, the fast 201 is generally a good yoyo for beginners.

  • Comment removed

  • can you do it with a wooden yoyo?

  • @xKnifexLeGeNd Yes, you can learn this trick on a wooden yoyo. That is actually how I learned the trick.

  • What yoyo do you use?

  • @x1jaykay1x When I am looping I use a Dominator. I also mod it by adding weight using silicone and by siliconing the break pads.

  • ow wow! its gonna hit me in the face. WOW. hahaha! Nice vid. :)

  • you rock i envy you

  • hey Adam, how long you take domining looping with your nonthrouhand and what kind of respond does the dominator have

  • @kklaudis I don't quite remember how long it took to master this with my left-hand, but it could have been over a year.

The Dominator has foam brake pads, with a little lube on the bearing these work quite well. If you are looking for a little more response we recommend using flowable silicone. We have a video about this if you are interested.

  • i know how to do in 1 day so easy LOL Just speed accuracy can do it

  • How do you make the yoyo come back fast, when throw the yoyo, it's don't come back right away

  • @rubik0912 It sounds like you might need to lubricate the bearing on the yoyo. If the yoyo is hesitating when it gets to the end of the string then lubricating the bearing will do the trick. You will want to find a medium to heavy synthetic lube (we sell Super Lube, for example) and apply it to the axle, where the bearing touches the axle.

  • @yotricks i want to make my yoyo more responsive does vaseline help?

  • @morboris Yes, vaseline should do the trick.

  • @yotricks, a question you might wanna answer, is a self-made wooden yoyo with a rope as string good enough to yoyo?

This question is actually serious, I made a yoyo for school :p

  • @Speelwow If it goes up and down it is good enough to yoyo. If it will sleep, even better. It is doubtful you could learn as many tricks with a wood yoyo as you could with a ball bearing yoyo, but then again, I have seen some pretty amazing tricks done with a wooden yoyo.

    Good luck!

  • @yotricks, A question you might wanna answer, is a self-made wooden yoyo with a rope as string good enough to yoyo?

This question is actually serious, I made a yoyo for school :p

  • HELP my loops sometimes go sideways (not horizontal) and they just sidewinder. do i need to tilt it or what

  • @Domster1998 As you are learning how to do this trick that will happen often. The best I can tell you is to just keep practicing. Ideally the yoyo will be slightly tilted to the side, but the best way to keep control is to just keep working on it. Loops take a long time to perfect, and there are really no shortcuts I can tell you that I did not already mention in the video.

    Hope this helps!

  • @yotricks Thanks its happening less but my angle of the yoyo isn't consistent sorry to ask so many questions but your good at answering

  • Question about lubing... does it go on the axel then you the bearing in. Or does the lube go on the bearing then put the string on.

  • @KeijiMaeda86 I put it on the axle and then put the bearing on... unless the bearing has no grease in it at all, in which case I put it in the bearing as well.

  • Very thorough explanation. Really helped a lot I kept messing up. And most other videos all they say is to flick the wrist and just not catch it. you actually explain :D

  • what yo-yo do you use it look really cool

  • @alexthecodmaster The yoyo used in this video is a Dominator by Peter Fish. I usually add a little weight to them and replace the break pads with silicone and this makes them work fantastic.

  • hey i used to yoyo when i was way younger but i never knew what i was doing. i just knew i was having fun. i stumbled across some yoyos in a toy store the other day and bought a cheap one. it didn't sleep though(maybe because it's cheap). i got a 4 dollar duncan butterfly too(original fixed axel) and ofcourse it didnt sleep. so i was wondering, would a yomega fireball be a good investment? i just want to know before i spend my money. i want to do all the tricks(sleep, loop, breakaway, etc). thnx

  • @EsquireXanadooCrear Yomega fireballs are okay, but since it does not have a ball bearing (it only has a transaxle) you are very limited in what can be done. The Luminator yoyo is a good inexpensive yoyo that can do all the tricks. The Dominator is especially good at looping. Those are the two yoyos that are featured most in my videos. You can learn more about these yoyos at YoTricks if you are interested.

  • Loop-loop + Wing = Black Eye

  • i bought a yomega fireball because it loops well, I just cant do it yet.

  • How long did it take you to learn this?

  • @1ofthemakers I had been yoyoing for about two years before I could loop this well. Still, I have seen guys learn to loop in much less time.

  • your right it doesnt hit your face it skims your head and hits you in the shoulder. ehhhh I like sleeping tricks better.

  • is fireball by yomega a good yoyo to do loop the loop?

  • Can i loop with a dm ? I mean its kinda hard above 5 loops ...

  • @termopanedemetal I'm sure you would learn to loop much faster if you got a yoyo that was designed for looping... like the Dominator. Wide yoyos like the Dark Magic make looping incredibly difficult, especially as you are learning.

  • The first time I did an inside loop, it hit me so hard in the chest!

  • @ricster3569 Your bearing needs to be greased. You can either buy something like Super Lube to apply to the bearing or you can try some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) instead. Put the Vaseline on the plastic, where the bearing would sit.

  • i just started loving yoyos, and so, would a BumbleBee by Duncan a good yo-yo? plz reply what its good at.

  • @sktigercp77 The BumbleBee is a good looping yoyo. However, if it still uses cork as its break pad system (I have not used one in some time) then these wear out quite quickly which makes this yoyo quite frustrating. In fact, all the Duncan yoyos suffer from break pads that wear out very quickly. If you don't mind changing them often then they have a number of good loopers.

The Dominator yoyo used in this video is a great yoyo for learning all your looping tricks. It can be found at YoTricks.

  • @yotricks thank you. that helps a lot.

  • @yotricks can you use other thing?

  • @demogujade You can use other types of lube but the bearing does need to be lubed if you want it to come back quickly.

  • when you use the dominator for a big time won't come back imediately when it getts to the end of the string? please reply

  • @demogujade This is most likely because the bearing needs to be lubricated. We recommend Super Lube which you can get at YoTricks. Most synthetic lubes that are designed for bearings work well, Super Lube seems to have the perfect viscosity (thickness) for yoyos.

  • i give up im tired of hitting myself it hurts

  • @MrToshiba547 Yes, looping is difficult (and sometimes painful). In my opinion it is totally worth it, though. You might be throwing it out a bit too hard, try being more casual... that might help.

  • @yotricks thank for the info ima try it out

  • can u use a sleeper yoyo

  • @extremeairsofter104 Yes, in fact, the Dominator yoyos used in these videos do sleep. The key to a good looping yoyo is shape. Typically the thinner the better (hence, the thin design of the Dominator).

  • i used my orange sunset trajectory NXG, it's rly great, but my skin keeps warning out from one of my fingers. :S

  • Why can't i hear a thing???

  • @KhaledMounib Some of my early videos (like this one) I made a mistake with the audio and the sound only comes out of one speaker (The right speaker, I think). If your audio is setup in such a way that one side of your stereo speakers does not come in then there will be no audio... I'll have to fix this.

  • @yotricks

No thanks you don't have to fix it, I fixed my setup and now i can hear everything. By the way, Great tutorials.

  • @KhaledMounib cuz ur deaf

  • Any Idea where i can get a Fast 201? I want to pick up playing with a yo yo (solving rubiks cubes is only entertaining for so long). I hear the Fast 201 is a good beginner one, but the site i saw it on sale on is out of stock on them.

  • ur explanation is simple

  • i can't get the yoyo to get at an angle, i angle my hand and yoyo but when i throw it it goes straight.

  • @jakeeln It seems to me that it is easier to keep the angle when you start by throwing the yoyo forward with an angle already. Other than this I haven't come up with a good way of explaining (other than just practice) how to keep the yoyo tilted when you are learning how to loop. Don't give up, it will come. If I think of some way to explain it I will post a new video.

  • I am learning to loop right now and this is an amazing tut! Thanks a lot Adam!

  • Comment removed

  • @iambetterthanyouu Thinner yo-yos are better for looping. Both wood and plastic can work well as long as they have a have a thin profile. The yo-yo I use in this video is the Dominator which is very thin and great for looping. They can be found on YoTricks.

  • after a couple of loops my yoyo tends to twist sideways too much, and it breaks the loop!

  • Nice job YoTricks, this is helpful information.

  • If you are having a hard time learning this trick you should check out the "Forward Toss" video on YoTricks. This video gives a more detailed explanation of the first part of this trick. I have a feeling that this will fill in any gaps you are feeling from this video.

  • your explanation was awful. maybe try taking it step by step, not just telling us quickly then expecting us to get what you are talking about!
