The Mysterious Stranger is my favorite book by Twain. There is something that I think should be noted though:

This Satan isn't THE Satan. It's his nephew who never fell. He literally can't do wrong because he never ate the fruit of knowledge, so he doesn't know the difference between good and evil. In the story he was more childlike. Any time he did something the main characters thought was evil, he'd just look at them funny and say that this way made more sense.

Look the book up, it's awesome.

There's something interesting to note here. They were only given one cow. Not enough for the two factions of people which seem to be fighting over it. Maybe that bloody conflict could have been avoided if they were just given enough to go around. It's almost like in showing Satan's evil, they've inadvertently shown God's errors.

Your right or close enough for these purposes, Twain wrote like 3, but other authors read it and decided to either 1) Finish it for him because he never did or 2)re-work his ideas and make it their own while still being true to what they thought Twain did, this is probably from another authors version of his story
