  • Thanks for making this, I have been looking for some pups. These have the sound I am looking for. Like the SRV/mayer sound. Blues is not a color.............thanks again.

  • oh,I have heard last phrase.

    that`s cross road,right?

I have to study English harder,,,:く

  • do we all think that john is a killer guitar player..... Like a srv or a winter or a jeff healy? please let me know.

  • I think it's kind of cool without the pickwear because thats how Mayer's one looked when he first got it. The wear has built up over the 7 years he's now had it.

  • Whats the name of the first song of the video? :D

  • @haruorox Out of My Mind (Live from LA)

  • pick ups?

  • Man, this is so awesome. How much do you take for a guitar like this (slash for the body + pickguards)?

  • I was wondering what the Boston Blues Pups from Guitar Fetish sounded like. I Like!! Think I will give them a call tomorrow. Do you remember which set you got??

  • OMFG sounds amazing!

  • where can we order

  • Goosebumps all the way through..

  • I'm sorry but those GFS blues don't come anywhere near mayers tone dude. They have too much high end pressence and not enough lower mids. Not "woody" enough.

  • where can i buy this ?!

    amazing btw :D

  • I found this video by trying to find out what the GFS Boston Blues sounded like. I'm glad I did, and this answers by inquiry very well indeed. This is a great sound!

  • Are you John mayer??? :)

  • Is this the texas or vintage pups ?

And also a question. If some days i feel like playing with more drive lets say till the distortion range. Can this pup handle it ?

What amp are u using here ?

    sorry for the questions.

  • Or this is mayer or he's seminole224

  • Hey man what kind of pickups are you using? I really like them, sound exactly like JM. Good job bro. Please reply :)

  • Hey could you make me one? I really like the pickups and great finger picking too.

  • good job with the finger picking there !!!

  • Beautifull playin' man!

    Rgrds

    Allan

  • Is this guitar and amp only with no effects?

  • Hey, great playing!! Which pickups are you using? the Vintage wound or the Texas wound? They sound great!!

  • What amp are you playing it through. it may of said but i didnt see. Nice Work

  • sounds ace.

  • Damn, it's amazing to know how to play all of those songs... Now, the guy the came up with them has to be considered as a genious, Thank you Johney!!!

  • *bridge

  • @ivncdo0809

Try a BurstBucker Pro bridge; really good LP pickup. Specifically the "Pro" though, the non-Pro BurstBuckers aren't as good to me. Or, since your body won't sound as dark as mahogany, maybe use a BB Pro Neck (rather than bridge) in the brodge position, to offset the inherent brightness.

  • @Kevlar1818

They're the Boston Blues, at least according to the description

  • Great playing by the way! What model of fender did you start off with?

  • Right on man, diggin the tone on these. You just helped me make up my mind on these. Been wanting to pull the trigger on em.

  • are these GFS Boston Blues, Texas or Vintage wound? Please respond, they sound spot on!

  • Comment removed

  • Don't listen to these negative comments man they're just jealous and can't play for shit keep it up man :D

  • hi! i'm planning to get these pickups and then put them in my yamaha pacifica which has an alder body maple neck and an hss configuration, last week i mailed up gfs pickups to ask what could put in the humbucker position but no answering yet, does anybody have some suggestions?

  • Your have great playing but you fuck up the low E when you play the verse on Wheel :) you play the the 12 bar which isn't right, it's suppose to be the 13th... i'm sorry i'm coming off an ass, but you play really great so it's sad that it sounds real crap there :S

  • The sound is incredible...

I would be very thankful if you will tell us what was your amp / gear / settings when you where playing with the clean sound !

    Thank you very much

  • awsome playing man! you nailed the tone too. I have to get one of these from you....!

  • How much for that?

  • Hope I'm helping you out here in pointing out that 1) the mayer signature strat has a 5-spring trem, and 2) all the hardware is gold. The gold is a little hard to make out in most live clips but if you go and check on the official fender site it says mayer's Sig has a five spring. Better sustain :) All in all, good relicing work though, very convincing. And very clean playing too, hats off to you!

  • Anaponda...what are the tuners?

  • how do i order one of these

  • amazing tone, man ;)

  • you sure know your mayer!!! how much was the strat

  • nice work!

  • nice work!

  • UMMMM, this is Mayer playing...Live in L.A.

  • @Uz2Brockstar REALLY? NO SHIT? I MEAN IT DOES SAY THAT UNDER THE INFO. He never said that was him playing at the beginning the demo starts at 1:40 you impatient shitbrain.

  • @Uz2Brockstar I take it you didn't make it very far into the video =/

  • @Uz2Brockstar get past the first minute and a half

  • @Uz2Brockstar at the beginning lol.

  • @Uz2Brockstar Ummm. Duh.

  • @Uz2Brockstar watch the entire video dude...

  • @Uz2Brockstar

    Watch the rest, idiot

  • Mate, Your style of playing is really alike Johnny Mayers and I really appreciate your playing. Keep up the good work boss!

  • great playing !!!

  • oh man! i wish i would play with you.. seems you have the GROOVE ..congrats!! hope you find a drummer with fillin'.. :( meee!! :D :P

  • I gotta say I really dig the sound of this guitar. Good example of the tone you get from these pickups. Did you do this in standard? for me, the Jimi and SRV stuff really comes to life when you tune down the half step.

  • great playing, super tone!

  • did you make this yourself??? its very nice......i have to be honest though im not really into the worn look......its a bit like flares or platforms they look cool in the epoch but years later they look comical.....20 years from now this style will be gone.....

  • @lumpfish99

No way, the relic look I think will stay forever.

Guitars start to do it naturally. also its damn sexy.

  • too bad it's not even black

  • how much?

  • Plus the blue wire looks cool...before they're installed, of course. They sound goood. Although I think my favorites so far are Klein jazzy cats. Soooooooooo sweet. The tonal texture I mean. Just...delicious.

  • the real one actually is blue xD

why do we call it the black one haha

  • How come the guitar looks nothing like John Mayer's?! The wood is darker and uglier. Is this some kind of fake copy that you bought in China?

  • Decent player, but when you go into "Jimi-land" its a disaster.

( Wait until tomorrow - Axis - Little wing ). Cant you hear how off you are???.

  • HOW DID YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON THAT ?

nice to know one person on youtube ,

    DESERVES to play it ,

    congrats

    you have my approval

    ahah ,

  • hahah this is john

  • your well able to play anyway ! any lessons let me know!!

  • How much for the body/pickguard?

  • Wait, there are so many people on Yt who have made their own replica's of his famous Black relic that I can't understand anymore. Is this the one he released or did you create the colors yourself? Is it up for sale yet? My Guitar Center sure as heck doesn't have them :S

  • the crossroads tone doesn't sound anything like it... your supposed to get a really high gain overdrive and turn down the guitar volume halfway and the tone all the way up

  • Sounds and looks good to me!

  • Just wondering, where did you find those pearloid tuners?

  • Cant seem to open dat stevie-strings website

  • how much would you charge for just the paint job on the body... cause i like the pickup configuration i got but i like that finish....

  • GOd I want IT!!!

  • sorry dude, sounds like a regular strat to me

  • Sounds pretty good if I'm honest. Don't know why everyone's slamming the shite out of it...

Or maybe it's his proficient playing compensating for it. I'd have to play it and set the amp up myself

  • great tone man!!!

  • Really bad relic job man.... sounds so fake! This simply CAN'T be a tribute to John's "The Black One"

  • @Noviuse Omg you are right, who the hell is putting GFS pickups in an expensive guitar :|. They should offer Klein's big dipper pickups (since the original John Mayer pickups can't be sold seperatly).

  • @Noviuse hell no

  • Is it big dipper pickups on Mayers black relic strat?

  • It's a good lookin strat but yes, Johns strat is a lighter color wood. You need to work on getting that on spot on the top in the middle of his guitar thats the lightest

  • How did you 'shave' the black paint without damaging the guitar?

  • sweet replica and nice playing. I can't emphasize how many people have john mayer pick ups and guitar but just can't play a demo that sound as clean as this.

  • wow, how much are you selling for my man?

  • Glad you like it! Thanks!

  • @Danklin24 I'd honestly like to see you do a better job. People are so quick to hate...we really don't care what you think unless you have something better to offer.

  • Ah, so i'm not allowed to have an opnion unless i kiss his ass and tell the person its the coolest thing i've ever seen. Got it. I guess some people curl up into a little ball and cry if they read a negative comment on Youtube, eh? As for me doing a better job, nowhere did i say i could do better. I'm allowed to have an opinion without thinking i can do better. Ford cars suck. Does that mean i can build a better one? Of course not.

  • looks like a rory strat a little

  • not even close...

  • Comment removed

  • aaah i have a guitar signed by john mayer AAAH

  • Well, done sir. I'm a huge JM fan and am building a strat as well to acheive that sound. I'm even getting the boston blues p'ups and have been wanting someone to put up a clip of them on YT. Keep up the great work.

  • @museishin , i suggest going with some fender custom shop single coil pickups, the stratocaster relic series that john has is on the guitar. just look up years for the pickups and you should be good.

  • pickup?

  • Hey do you think the boston blues set texas wound would be good for srv tone or the texas primieums

  • texas primieums

  • What are your settings for the fulldrive? I specifically bought a fulldrive to get Mayer's tone. Please tell me... your settings sound good. With the vintage, FM, and compcut along with the mosfet or original switch there are a lot of possibilities.

    THanks!!!!

  • Also, are those pickups the vintage GFS wind or the texas wind? Lemme know. Im interested in gettin one now... lol!

  • lets say i were to run high gain through THOSE pickups that you have...how would that sound?

  • Not 100% sure how that would sound. I never put them to that kind of test, haha.

  • Comment removed

  • What?

  • how did you get the back of the neck to have a shaved off look?

  • sandpaper and wood stain. look at my stevie #1 replica on my page.

  • I have texas specials. I cant imagine these being much different. High gain stuff sounds good. Im running an old big muff and a boss metalcore pedal and it does the trick fine.

  • Man, this guitar is great!

I've read the process at MSM. Too bad that u don't ship her to Brasil.

Just curiosity: what's the frets size on this guitar?

I have a real problem with guitars with low frets. 2 of mine are with them, and don't know if i'm goin' to substitute 'em or just adapt myself.

    Anyway, congratz for your work!

  • Not sure on the fret size!

    Thanks!

  • what's the name of this intro song?

  • Details are also under the "info" section of the video.

  • WOW! Nice craftsmanship and tone Bro...are the pups the vintage or texas wound?

  • Thanks! Not exactly sure what you mean on the pups. They are GFS Boston Blues if that helps any.

  • hey man, great sound! if only i wasn't left handed :-P are they the GFS boston blues vintage wound or texas wound set?

  • @grebbington Thanks! I've never done a lefty strat before. Let me know and we can work something out.

    The pups are Texas wound.

  • @duckbill58 $1300. Ebay auction link is in the "info" section to the right of the screen.

  • nice man where did you buy it?

  • I made it and it is for sale.
