I had the same problem. Very easily fixable, just hard to explain. You need to open up the Xbox and get to the disc reader and reset the laser manually. there are plenty of tutorials for this.

Oh, and also do X-Clamp replacement. That comes after applying Arctic Silver 5.

These are the fixes it sounds like you need to do:

1. Heatgun treatment

2. Apply Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste

3. Basing on the sounds of the laser when it resets, you need to get a new Hitachi disc drive. Swap the circuit boards in those and you are good there.

itz not RROD its the open tray error i fixed mine, hopefully, but it only worked for like a week. 1. insert a disc, it says open tray. 2. open it and take the disc out. 3. shove the tray back in NOT PUSH, SHOVE. do steps 2 and 3 really fast.

Here's what fixed it for me: Go to "Settings" then "Memory" select your main storage device, most likely your HDD. Now, before you press "A" press "Y" on your controller. This will bring up something that will let you reformat your drive. No, this will not erase any of your memory.

AS FOR THE RROD-Unplug everything from your console, all cables, ethernet connector (wireless too) make sure everything is removed, then unplug those cables from the TV and the power directly. Replugin everything.

It's just a faulty disc drive. Only half of the 360s have decent ones, it's totally random. You just have to hope your 360 isn't one of the ones microsoft saved money on. Put it upright, load the disc, and shake it back and forth. Repeat several times. Try using one of those cleaning discs with the brush glued to the bottom. Or, buy a decent disc drive and take apart yourself. You'll need a T10 screwdriver. And if your into further mods, you'll need a T8 to take apart the board. TMI? Sorry.
