  • I absolutely love my DVD. I've watched it four times since I opened it yesterday and I keep going through chapters as well. Thank you for this fantastic labor of love.

  • “An enthralling film that tells the story of a truly pivotal figure in 20th-century music whose madly eclectic achievements remain largely obscure. An essential view inside the wonders of creative genius, American-style.”

    —LA WEEKLY

  • What's the song that starts at 3:28?

  • @AcidDreaming Sorry for the delayed reply, but that tune is Baltimore Gas and Electric--it's on the Manhattan Research CD set, track 3, Disc 1. There are several versions on the 2 CD's in the set....

  • THE ELECTRONIUM!

  • I wish there was some video archives of raymond using the Electronium.... I want to watch him composing and performing on the machine very badly!

  • @emilshere--I wish there were too! In the film there is a sequence where you can hear some audio that is that process, and there is a layered photo animation sequence that goes along with that....

  • Much RESPECT ^_^

  • Hello Stan! Your dad has a lot of fans in Worcester, Mass.! We've been listening to the Quintette and the Beau Hunks CDs. Will the film be showing in Greater Boston soon? Thanks!

  • Great, yet another documentary for me to spend the rest of my life wanting to see...

  • @aliceboy Sorry for the delayed reply but....it is available on DVD now: go to scottdoc (dot) com/dvd

  • @SJW611 FANTASTIC! Thanks for the info; I'll add it to the Christmas list. And thanks to whomever's responsible for having the decency to make it region-free. Can't wait to see it!

  • THE WIRE magazine: "A bittersweet paean to his late father... The director has taken great pains assembling a visual and aural composite of his subject. The insights afforded by Raymond Scott's own son add shades of intrigue and pathos not found in the average music documentary."

  • Years ago I had the idea of how great it would be to have a documentary of Raymond Scott done in Rotoscope with audio interviews animated!! -The sheer irony and originality of that would blow everyone away.

But it's probably beyond the means of all but the big players (Rotoscoping being so time consuming and labor intensive).

But I can't wait to see the film you as you've made it (and make all my friends and family see it too).

    Thank you.

  • @MrChirpsky Sorry for the delayed reply, but there is one original animation sequence that was made for the film--it was donated by animator Scott SanGiacomo. I would have liked to do more, but as you point out animation (and rotoscoping) are expensive and time consuming.

  • That last piece at the end is genius! Hope you get this film out soon!

  • Can''t wait to see this film.

  • Amazing documentary. Had the pleasure of seeing it screened by the director, in DC.

  • way way ahead of his time------ much respect

  • I need to see this! Is there a master list of showings anywhere? Great great work!

  • Are you hoping for an international realease? im from the UK. Looks amazing.

  • Wow, thanks for this.

  • I just learned of Raymond Scott last night - He's the father of the music in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies & pioneer of the synthesizer (mentor to Bob Moog). I urge you to search his name & read his online bio - he is one of the greatest musical geniuses of the past century! Access my new playlist for him through the yt searchbar with chkjns raymond scott. From Big Band to synthesizer, Raymond Scott did it all.

Thanks to his son Stan for this loving tribute to his father.

  • I definitely want to see this DVD.

  • Definitely want to see this !

  • Definitely want to see this !

  • I'm really eager to learn more about this story!

  • is this film finished and available? it's not on amazon.

  • Hey, thanks for your interest, I'm not quite at the stage of being ready to release the DVD, though the film is essentially finished. Trying to move through the festival circuit first, though I am planning to release the DVD sometime this year.

    Stan Warnow

  • can you let me know when you're ready to release it? i'd absolutely love to see this. more than words can describe.

  • Most excellent! Can't for it to hit San Louis Obispo....I hope.

Now I'm in the mood to stuff as much Raymond Scoot into my MP3 player before I take off to New Orleans for a week.

  • Who is this pictured at 0:15/6:17?

  • Not sure if I'm understanding but at 15 seconds from the start it is a picture of Raymond Scott, one of a series of him that's around that time...Hope this anserws your question!

  • Here's what LEONARD MALTIN had to say about this documentary:

A fascinating look at a musical genius and the way he lived his life. Stan Warnow allows us to share his journey of discovery as he pieces together the story of his father. I thoroughly enjoyed it.''

  • i cannot frakkin wait for this !! yeeehaaaw !

  • Wow this is exciting, that´s a documentary I will definitely watch. I first heard about Scott while reading a book about Looney Tunes and from that decided to buy a CD with his music and I´ve been a fan since.

  • I liked "On To Something better"

  • Hey, had lost this so sorry for the delay in approving. I liked On To Something too, but decided to change it for family reasons--it's complicated. And I wanted audiences to understand it was a film by a son (or daughter) about their father, and as my Dad built (constructed) so many things and had an engineer's mind, deconstructing seemed appropriate for him. And I like artful appropriate alliteration--which I hope this is!
