  • I have not got the brain capacity to understand how people can dislike this? What the fuck?

  • @bassplayermusic91 most dislikes are due to pottymoth remarks and not John's music

  • any men in that crowd? straight men.

  • this is pure bliss... pure fucking bliss

  • ear orgasm.!

  • Such an awesome groove!

  • Is this version of the song on any of his CDs?

  • COOL!!

  • hey anybody know what effect he is using for this song?

  • @MattyFingersify Just an echo effect.

  • @ztbsk8er I think its chorus and delay or somethin.. delay or "echo" as you call it..

  • @MattyFingersify Yeah, It's delay. I couldn't think of the right word and yep it is delay.

  • John Mayer is the physical and musical manifestation of the color blue.

  • Okay so... John Mayer is BY FAR my favorite musician. That will never change but i will not deny that he is one of the biggest douche bags in hollywood today. That's a big title.

  • John mayer's live version always, always! better than the album thanks to his improvisation

  • Eleven people need their hearing checked or have really horrible taste in music.

  • i'd give so much to be this good.

  • uwielbiam tego goscia :-)

  • lol whats wrong with his voice?

  • is that guitar son of stratocaster and telecaster?

  • @leri123456789 good question... pretty sure its a strat. he just has a lot of effects running and using the bridge pickup so it sounds bright. could be wrong though

  • @leri123456789 its one of the custom shop tele strat hybrids

  • John Muhfuckkin Mayer...understand me! Give the Drummer some on this...no doubt. Ain't nothing missin on this shit but a lil sprinkle of chili sauce....yessss!

  • wish i was the guitar..:)

  • his guitar at the beginning reminds me of the fixx in the 80's... then he sings and it's all john - great song.

  • haha it does sound like he has a lisp in this video XD lol! love you john <3

  • I wish I had his voice to sing to ladies

  • 1:40-1:43 first glimpse thought it was JAck Johnson

  • sort of having a John Mayer night.

  • @pwtori7 That's regular for me.

  • @pwtori7 was it the night that ended in "day"

  • @pwtori7 Sortof having a John Mayer life

  • yea he did not do a good job here

  • It amazes me how people still say things like "Fuck Beiber" or "Take that Jonas Brothers" on videos like this. We all know John Mayer is leagues ahead of them, so grow the fuck up.

  • @syndicate010 clean up your potty mouth! a 12 year old is not necessarily attracted to the same thing you are but vulgarity attracts no

    one!

  • @syndicate010 are you justin bieber? omg, you're much better than this faggot mayer

  • Pretty deep. Check out this sermon reflecting on his lyrics

  • Fuck bieber.. eat that ..

  • it is possible that it is a tele, but it looks a hell of alot like a strat, and people saying you can't produce this sound from a strat are wrong... It happens that fender (and any other company) produces oddly shaped models of current ones.. I mean Hendrix played a strat too, but sometime used one that looked like an Ibanez (still with the plate on though, to give it the strat look)

  • Something's missing... you.

  • no way! JM playing a tele? haha

  • @nickluna5995 umm thats not a tele lol. its a strat ;)

  • @RideLXbindings umm...definitely a tele. Look again, man.

  • @siskjoey pause at 0:12 or 0:26. A telecaster looks nothing like that. See how it has the 3 single coil pick ups and switch knob plus the way the pickguard looks? look up any strat and then look up a tele and you'll notice the difference ;)

  • @RideLXbindings look at how the top of the guitar doesn't have the fin that jutts out-it goes back down to the neck. That's a tele body. However, the knobs and pickguard are similar to a strat setup...weird.

  • @RideLXbindings are you sure? it looks like both haha but it sounds like a tele

  • @nickluna5995 yea its 100% a stratocaster, but i see what you mean how it sounds different. He probably has his guitar on the bridge switch position to get that sound. But yea its a strat ;)

  • @RideLXbindings sorry man, i still think its a tle, strats dont look or sound like that, but anywayssssssss who cares really i mean it still sounds fantastic.

  • @nickluna5995

Lol he can just have chosen the lower pickups to catch the sound and then you get that exact sound (of course with the delay too) it's pretty simple, but that is definetely not a tele!

And sorry i didn't read your full message before answering... yeah it dosen't really matter cause it sounds awesome!

  • @nickluna5995 lol true it does sound cool but Strats "do look like that" and this song is in a different tuning which gives it that kind of sound. Anyways ;) happy playing.

  • @RideLXbindings @nickluna5995 Its a hybrid. Meaning the body is a tele, pickguards a strat one, bridge is a hardtail (like a tele), necks a strat type.

  • @nickluna5995

It's still a strat but with a weird shape!

  • I love JM he is the best male talent we have right now

  • He is one sexy man. to see him again live check in out at q102.com when he does an exclusive performance in studio q tomorrow around 2:30!!!

  • he made an incredible sound here, he made possible assembled the sounds without forgetting he is the front man of the band

  • Good for versatility like his Trio ~ I just don't like it as much as good old John Mayer Acoustic pop. Before anyone says it, I'm a pretty experienced guitar player

  • i like john mayer but rockinroller im pretty sure they werent talking about him just havin a lisp it sounds like he does in this VIDEO...dumbass

  • peace man .. love this music

  • Seriously, wtf is with his lisp. there is definitely something wrong with his voice here

  • The video sounds like crap, but I love this song.

  • Some kind of Fender.

  • What guitar is John using?

  • @breachmania A Fender Telecaster I believe.

  • @breachmania a hybrid between a tele and a stratocaster

  • One of the few people left in the world who has true soul. Great tune, Great groove.

  • yeah he does sound like he has a lisp, i can barely listen to it lol damnnnn this song is amazing though

  • love the groovy intro!

  • What;'s with his lisp?? Hahaha

  • john mayer can make make hilary clinton climax, and thats a hard feat.

    hes a god

  • Mayers reputation began to build, and a March 2000 appearance at South by Southwest brought him to the attention of "launch" label, Aware Records.

  • my god that beginning always seems to make me move my head

  • friends, check

    money, check

    well slept, check

    opposite sex, check

    guitar, check

    microphone, check

messages waiting on me, when i come home...

    love that part... xD

  • Cat is stupid with the guitar! My man is out of control!

  • hmmmm tele body, strat neck and pickguard...way to be creative JM lol :)

  • John Mayer = 100%

    Love it.

  • when this song comes on concert tv on comcast my 14 month old boy loves this song wont take his eyes off the tv

  • my favorite version too

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • genious

  • My favorite version of this song I've found. One of John's best. This song goes through my head a lot. Awesome lyrics. My favorite line.. "when autumn comes, it doesn't ask, it just walks in, where it left you last, you never know when it starts until their is fog inside the glass around your summer heart." Brilliant!

  • sweet ass guitar!

  • God, why did he have to wear this shirt?

  • I too, am not knocked out about by much of what this guy has created so far. but it's silly to say he lacks talent.

he's a fine young player, has a great ear, and seems to have an encylopedic capacity to cop and process cool licks and vibe from lotsa more original players (from all kinds of styles). my problem is more with the singing; too often it just feels contrived/manufactured/calculated.

  • ...self reflecting aside what did you think of John? :)

  • haha... this made me chuckle

  • I think john uses a lot of compression in his sound

  • a hell of a lot

  • It's a guitar with a strat electronic setup and a telecaster body with a strat neck. So it's clearly a hybrid,

  • What scale is he using? I know its a different tuning, what key is the song in?

  • E major / C# minor.

  • thats a stratocaster, even though he kinda tweeked the body a little bit to give it more of his style i guess. cause alot of strats look alike

  • I agree whith the comments that he was somewhat slow in the beginning. I'm not sure could be he was at the end of this consert and tired

  • it feels way slow but still good

  • I love John Mayer and this song but this was a HORRIBLE performance by him. It was lacking the energy, had the weakest guitar playing I've heard come from him, and what is up with his slobbering lisp in the beggining? He must have been really nervous or had novicane put into his mouth or something.

  • @EddieVedder13 I agree that the vocals were pretty off, but I thought over any rendition I have heard of this song, the solo was great....Just my opinion

  • I'm pretty sure he was nervous during this performance. I think he was counting at 6:08.

  • thats jj johnson not Steve jordan and he is also amazing, how can anyone say he is bad wtf do you have ears?

  • yea steve jordan has a much better groove when playing drums for mayer.

  • hrm the beginning is kind of a mess, not very tight playing from the drummer :( good song tho, my favorite sings by mayer

  • I disagree...

  • What kind of strat is that?

  • Comments below say it's some sort of hybrid.

  • @Hikki4Life fender produced a stratocaster telecaster model a while ago, i dont think its very popular.. i only knew about it cause last week i looked up the fender custom shop page

  • its a telecaster he's playing

  • its a hybrid!

  • Uh that would be a Strat

  • ur retarded

  • He's one of those guys that gets more and more attractive with age. He also lost his lisp.

  • @samanthagrace22 OH! i didnt realize he actually had a lisp at one time, this vid kinda threw me off

  • This is the best live version of Somethings Missing

  • 1:28 xD

  • Instant favorite 5/5

  • this is like one of my favorite songs by him! i love neon too :)

  • Don't understand what's with all the comments about, "Lisp," "Root canal," and, "No teeth."

Just sounds like a wonderful piece of "original," music which means if it's not a cover, it has it's own sound, and it sounds "different," and beautiful to me.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 hahaha are people really saying that? have they ever heard any of his other music, or heard him playing live? it's a fuzzy recording that's all you nincumpoops..

  • @harotufa89 Yeah.

There were comments of that description a year ago when I made my "comment."

Seems like, 'iamrichlol,' and 'TravellinMan,' felt the same way only 3-4 months ago, on page 4. They must not have heard any of his other music, as you state.

I think "Nincumpoops," lol! describes the negative comments very well.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • That tele-strat hybrid definitely has his big dipper pickups in it, sounds so good. Anyone know what pedals he's using?

  • im pretty sure he's using a board not just a pedal. I dont know exactly what kind though.

  • @MysticGrant same pickups as his signature Strat...such a sweet strat!

  • why is his lisp so bad in this?

  • Yeah sounds like he's come back from a root canal.

  • I think it might just be the sound quality but idk.???

  • @AlanDavidMusic In his earlier material his voice wasnt half as good as it is now...he defo has a prominent lisp in this performance though!

  • what a huge epic sound he gets from his guitar

  • what guitar is that it's like a strat with tele form???

  • It's a custom shop masterbuilt Strat-tele hybrid...you can own one for like five grand

  • its a strat tele hybrid look it up... i think only a hundred or so were made by chris flemming

  • not low enough!!!

  • Interesting development! I wonder if he gets terrified when he hears his lisp come out in the middle of the song. I'm just imagining how I would feel.

  • this was a few years ago, and in those years he bettered his voice, so that's why he sings like this

  • whats with his singing on this vid? sounds like hes got no teeth in?

  • well my guess is because he had a lisp when he was younger, which he did. and i know that when he gets nervous his voice is much more airy and throaty.. but the lisp is REALLY coming through. maybe its a joke?

  • i don't think john tries to be the best guitarist. unlike rod stewart john is a 'guitarist' not just a singer, which stewart would be reffered as. Mayer's playing is a part of his expression in his music and by no means is he conciously trying to be the best guitarist

  • *which stewart would not be reffered as

  • haha

    i love your dry sarcasm

  • I agree with JiggaBoxx - JM is a Motown voice and hands trapped in a skinny little white boy's body. Much respect to Motown and JM. I wanna be like that when I grow up [im 23]

  • respect

  • i love the tele

    i love the strat

that thing looks a lil strange

    but cool idea i guess

  • That's a bad mutha... (shut yo' mouth).

  • Weird guitar! What is that, it's like a strat with a tele body

  • its a strat/tele hybrid

  • HE IS SO MOTOWN

  • does he hav a lisp in this vid or something? it sounds off...

  • i agree...i mean, maybe he has a sore throat or something

    idk though

even the guitar sounds a little off

maybe its just the sound quality

  • this groove is awesome.

  • indeed

  • this song kicks azzzzzz

  • yz he speakin like a spaz?

  • Cool guitar, tele/strat =)

  • is john mayer wearing retainers in this vid?

    Great song, great player.

  • yeah, I wonder too.. he has a funny lithp.

  • haha i like the head bobbing

  • i love this! this vocals are weird though... he sounds like hes in a rusty metal box.

  • i agree.... the vocal track definately isn't mixed correctly to suit his vocals in this... they just sound off

  • Awesome!!! Thanks for posting:)

    Grandma Mary

  • and you would be an "older blues player" would you? as opposed to bb king, eric clapton and buddy guy who apparantly know nothing about blues. you also clearly didnt take in a single point i made. if you dont like mayer thats completely ok and understandable. but that doesnt make your opinion of mayers playing ability fact. its your opinion - which you still have every right to.

  • Comment removed

  • ok so first timei heard mayer, i was listening to bb king and eric clapton and saw him playing with them. now im in to mayer too. im sorry but if bb king and clapton (and i think he did stuff with buddy guy too) think hes good enough to play blues with them... well i think theyre more knowledgable on blues. music evolves and changes overtime. and to be fair if mayer is introduicing a whole new generation to the more "traditional" blues via his own music first, then im down with that,

  • also when t-bone walker started the whole electric blues movement back in the day, im pretty sure people heckled him for not being a true bluesman. that wasnt what the guys before had done. so get over it if ayer doesnt play like an 80 year old african american from the deep south

  • mayer is no doubt a good blues guitarist, but he cannot be considered a bluesman. a bluesman is not only a musician, it is a lifestyle and a certain swagger. he's far from muddy waters or robert johnson or son house. mayer definately has skill and i would not deny that. what is slightly irritating about mayer is that he started off doing pure pop teenager music (although he is transitioning towards blues slowly) and enjoyed having 12 year old girls screaming in joy at his music.

  • and i also wanted to add that mayer is great. he makes some great music, but his fanbase makes the whole idea retarded. people like your or me affect his style, but the screaming teenage girls affect his style even more. think about how far he is from stevie ray vaughan, his strongest idol and influence. he sings as well as he can and plays very well, but will he ever be able to transcend above his audience and rip his guitar into pieces just through releasing his own spirituality? that i fear.

  • fair point. i do think mayer care way too much about the crowd, but his roots were playing hendrix and srv stuff in small clibs and jazz bars. but i do agree the crowd has somewhat eclipsed that

  • yep, he's a good guitarist, anyone who starts out young in jazz and blues bars and gets accepted by buddy guy and the like is bound to become worthy enough to appreciate. its just that he chose the 'pop music' path early in his career which got him the fame but not the respect that he could have earned with his skills.
