I am an immigrant here in the united states. I did not know that there are 58 beautiful national parks. I hope to see all of it. Well, I am going to see one next month the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Now, beside visiting all the countries around the world I will make it sure to go to this places here in America.
Really. How hard is it to not watch something if you don't like it? A serious problem we have these days is that people expect the media (and I include YouTube) to custom tailor all content to meet their specific likes and dislikes. If they don't want their 10 year old to see it, then it shouldn't be there at all.
Give it a break, people! If you don't want your 10 year old to see it, turn your damn tv off! Same if it doesn't conform to your personal version of somebody's bible.
If you want to know what is really happening on and to our public lands search U-Tubes: "Robert Redford BLM", "Cheryl Crow Wild Horses", The Cloud Foundation Wild Horse Roundups".
I'm humbled. I've only been to 13 of the National Parks in the U.S. Photographing all of them? Nice gig if you can get it, but I'm sure it was a lot of work to come away with fantastic shots from all 58 of them.
In 1872, Yellowstone National Park was established as arguably the world's first truly national park. When news of the natural wonders of the Yellowstone were first promulgated, the land was part of a federally governed territory. Unlike Yosemite, there was no state government that could assume stewardship of the land, so the federal government took on direct responsibility for the park, a process formally completed in October 1, 1890—the official first National park of the United States.
The first effort by any government to set aside such protected lands was in the United States, on April 20, 1832, when President Andrew Jackson signed legislation to set aside four sections of land around what is now Hot Springs, Arkansas to protect the natural, thermal springs and adjoining mountainsides for the future disposal of the US government.
firstly, the U.S. was the first country to establish national parks...Sweden had several established in 1909, but the U.S. had many by then....secondly, many people did not shoot bison (there are no buffaloes in the U.S.) for fun....thirdly, your obvious prejudice has clouded your judgement and facts do not seem to matter to you
I'll have to apologize, since after a more serious search in the english wiki, I noticed that the first official national park was completed in 1877 in United States. The swedish wiki (Which I trust less) claims that the first official park was established in 1980 in Sweden. However, that is after the first "real" national park was completed in the states.
Oh, and one last thing, to quote wikipedia here, regarding the use of the term "Buffalo": "...also commonly known as the American Buffalo", now this is not a correct term, I know, but it's still usable for the bison.
thanks for your honesty-i know it's hard to believe but there were some ecologically conservative people in the 19th century U.S & extermination of the buff had political implications as being the most efficient way of getting rid of the plains tribes (and slaughtering them)-Teddy Roos was republican and a powerful advocate for wilderness...there are some faint glimmers of hope now seeing hunters, hikers, ranchers, farmers bonding together to fight timber, mining, and other negative land users
Unbelievable. Ken Burns is an incredible story teller.

We enjoy living close to Yosemite. Wife has a gold pass. Never knew about the stamps. Her collection of pins is overwhelming.
