Hi there, I own a g-2900 g-shock and I wanted to know I there is any way to reset the password for e-data memory or if I remove the battery will it reset?? Thanks
Hi, can you give me some hint on how to change the battery for my casio model CPW-310-1VDS. Is the procedure or procss similar to the G Shock.Thks in adv
Interesting how the newer batteries don't have staying power like those of old. Upon battery installation & checking operation the light would shut the watch down. I've tried several resets but the light won't function. I'll live with it. The light is neat but not why I bought the watch. Any one with any tips on this? Also my 1986 model won't power up at all. I did several resets, waited a day or two before attempting again but nothing. Battery is good as I have it in 2005 unit & works.

Great tutorial. To add to it: Note that it is important to properly place the battery upon installation. The positive terminal must face the AC hold down tab. As shown a sharp point must touch the battery AND the AC terminal to reset function. I have two DW 5600E models one purchased in 1986 & the other in 2005. I purchased the latter as it was easier at the time than doing this. The 1986 Panasonic battery lasted until the newer purchase. In 2010 the 2005 watch needed a battery too.
I had this two or three times. First try one or two AC reset procedures. If it stays dead, or does strange things (EL stays on with blanc screen, strange digits in the display) take out the battery and leave the watch for several hours (I recommend about 24 hour). Then instal the battery and try again. Good chance it works flawless.
I broke the tiny spring off in mine while changing the battery. I guess it's just for the speaker so I don't care but you might want to be careful not to touch the spring.
great little video. I have a (very?) old model Gshock which I just pulled out of a drawer tonight. Your video was definitely good enough for me to put a new battery in and resurrect this great classic! Thanks!
The watch runs and beeps fine but I still don't get the backlight. What am I doing wrong? It was running without resetting with the AC and after I tried resetting, still no backlight. Please help!

thanks man for the video. I was having trouble touching the ac to battery's + terminal. I thought the back of cover had ac. Thanks a bunch for making it simple.
Get some extremely fine conductor metal wire. I used 0.2mm [0.011"] conductor. After resetting watch place rubber backing sheet over the rear. Then put wire into the spring location. Bend wire 90 degrees so it sits flat on top of the rubber. Cut the bent end, leave 4 or 5 mm to contact the speaker ceramic. Carefully place the metal back onto the watch and test that the sound works. Buy wire in Maplin or ask an electronics friend for some. Must be fine wire to avoid steam ingress.
Awesome video, thank you! I had a little trouble figuring out how to get the battery retaining strap unhooked, but once I got that figured out, all went well. Thanks!

Thanks for this, it helped me change the battery on my Casio Protreck 1471. The trickiest part was getting the rubber seal ring to sit properly in its groove - it kept popping out. I set it as well as I could, then replaced the back panel. Part of the ring still protruded. I pushed this back in with a screw driver and felt it 'pop' back into place. Also, the Protreck has two batteries and two latches. The latches open on the bottom ends.
Thank you. I could not figure out how to get the battery to release. Your tutorial was excellent! FYI, to release the piece holding in the battery, if you do not have sharp pointed tweasers, you can use a stick pin to release the holding strap.
Great tutorial. You helped me out a lot when I had to change my battery from my DW6900-1. Was starting to think I was gonna have to buy a new one. Thanks.
Last time I needed my battery replaced, the guy charged me $50 USD and told me only a professional could do the job. Today, my wife & kids found your tutorial, then bought a $4 USD battery and did it ourselves in less than 5 minutes. It was easy. Your tutorial was perfectly informative. Your english was clear, correct, easy to understand, THANK YOU!
hey, bedankt.
I was having a problem getting my Casio Illuminator, (DW-290), to start after installing a New CR2016 battery. After watching your video manuel, I got it started only it wouldn't make any sound. Watching you again, I slightly raised the metal piece that holds the battery and Bingo It works. (If you have not explained what the piece on the inside does, I never would have figured it out. Thanks a million.
Most G-Shock models use a little spring that makes contact with the little piezo speaker in the back plate. Some however have a small metal piece, that have the same function. It seems that your pre-G-Shock DW-290 has a similat metal piece.
Good job sir,one question anyone please. What happens to the battery if you touch it with your fingers?,I did so and I think it died,'cause it does not work anymore,THANKS.
And pay loads of bucks for a job you can do at home in 10 minutes, and it'll still be water resistable, but not in a same way as a new untouchable one.
This is true especially with screwbacks, which require special tools to have them installed properly.
For other backs, effective WR is possible even under user maintenance. The key is to keep the rubber gasket in good condition (ie. careful lubrication and installation, and replacement should the original one show aging).
But then of course, for complete peace of mind, it's worthwhile to pay a little more to have the job done at the authorized dealer.

Sweat from your hands contains salts which corode metal, parts, batteries etc, can even burn frog skin!(fact) most guns that were black, turn a blue tinge because of sweaty nervous stick up hands, lol.
Top video mate very helpfull indeed, you speak English very well
my casio G-shock 2310 is solar powerd i recently replaced the battery after six years running its recommended replace the battery every five years if its solar . casio,s a beautiful watch that would last years & years if looked after you wouldn,t think mine was six years old & i go diving do lots of swimming casio is highly recommended anyone wishing to buy a new sports divers watch.
Hmm....I've always thought using solar was to eliminate the need to replace batteries. If you have to replace the batteries on a "solar" watch every 5 years, then I don't see a point of getting a solar watch. Some battery operated G Shocks have battery replacement every 5 years also. Hmmm.....
My Casio dealer is also an authorized Casio Service Center. He has a air conditioned room, but there is no over-pressurized room. We are talking about 20 Bar water resistance. A slightly higher or lower air pressure won't harm as it is only a fraction of the withstand-able pressure.
hi. i find your video very helpful. i have a G schock model G2300. it needs strap/band replacement. i have already the replacement strap/band. i just need the guide how to replace the strap/band. i would appreciate it a lot if you would show me how to do it. Thank you very much
For the guy who wanted to know why not to touch the battery with your hand or METAL tweezers is because you will get electricuted..by hand or with metal tweezers so use plastic..electricty cant flow through plastic
For the guy who wanted to know why not to touch the battery with your hand or METAL tweezers is because you will get electricuted..by hand or with metal tweezers so use plastic..electricty cant flow through plastic
I was trying to replace a casio illuminator battery. Although I havent got the new battery yet, I have removed the old one.
Can anyone explain why its important, if it is, to not touch the battery or the metal on the watch with our fingers? And use a plastic tweezer. I only have metal tweezers.
you dont touch it so that no fat from your body fluids (sweat) stays on the battery. if it does it is not good for electricity- battery may use more energy, or sth like that
could you do a video for Baby G? I can't open the battery cover like you did to G shock. I have to pull all parts out and open the cover from the side......
Great G-Shock service video!! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!! I have a GW-330A and so do my 2 sons and my father. (4 in all) Knowing how to service these is a big deal. :-)
i tried resetting my watch. Do i just touch where it says ac? cus i touch the battery and where it says ac and hold it for a couple seconds and it still wont reset counting. When i place the battery in it does go back to 1200am bur it doesnt reset counting when i touch contacts.
Fantastic, thank you sjors. I had just had my crystal replaced by a local jeweler and my alarm didn't sound anymore. Now I know why...he put the back of the watch on 180 degrees from where it should be. The little spring was not contacting the speaker. I simply installed the back of the watch correctly and voila, bells and whistles. You were very informative in this video. Thank you for taking the time to post it for us amatures. And yes, your English is fabulous.
Yes, resetting by contacting the battery back with AC is a must! I have used G shocks for long time and twice I had the battery replaced by a jeweler, both times it worked for a day or two and then stopped running or showed nonsense on the display and he could not figure out why. Now I see how I can do it myself very easily. Thanks, Sjors!
Gutes video aber wenn du die batterie selber reparierst kann sie und icht werden bzw. kaputt gehen und außerdem geht die Garantie verloren dabei kostet ein Wechsel beim Uhrmacher vielleicht 5€ und ist versichert!!
Thank you for taking the time to post this video, it has been very helpful, as I'm just about to change the battery on a 10 year old DW6600. Your english is very good, by the way!!
Yoyur tutorial was great. I was able to change my watch battery on my DW5600E where as the walmart jewelry department refused to touch it even though I showed them my reciept that I bought it there. A Big Thank You.
Thank you very much for this video and your other postings on the internet that explain this with photos.
I just replaced the battery on my G-3011 and it worked just as you said. The most difficult part was opening the clasp on the battery cover. Eventually it popped open with a small jeweler's screwdriver. For a moment, I feared that I had damaged the clasp.
I did not need to use the AC button.
Thomaslam07 got the battery for $1.94. I paid $6.00 at Radio Shack in New York City.
Thank you very much for your help, i actualy as a child opend up my casio baby g watch in an atempt to change the battery losing the tiny little spring in the process... apon watching this tutorial i have discoverd my error and have created another means of making the contact where the spring should have been by using a small piece of wire that slots into the hole and doubles over at the top making the contact with the "beeping crystal" therefore fixing the problem.
it is very helpful. I go to the shop and ask them how much for changing battery. they need US$ 15.99. Now, I just spend US$1.94 for battery.... big saving and many thanks
I have replaced watch batteries for years, now granted i have never ever taken a watch to the maximum rated depths they are claimed to be able to go ( i dont go diving), but coating the seal with Silicone grease has never failed me. my regular watches are constantly in water and even in the hot shower(which is not reccomended) and i have never had a problem.
I know you can change batteries at jeweler. The reason I made battery tutorials, is that G-Shocks are also worn in remote areas.
I have about 420 G-Shock's,so you can imagine I have to change batteries a lot. It costs me €8.- per battery plus test. It is a good price if you need to change a battery once every three years, but it would become too expensive for me.
If you have a good gasket and grease the it good after replacement, there is a fair chance it is 200m WR.
When you change battery, in any watches, you never know if you lose the resistant against water. If you are lucky, the watch still will be resistant. But if you put your watch to the watchmaker or jewellery, they can do a pressure test to see if the watch can resist water. This is simply.
Please note that it is a good Casio dealer. There ar many horor stories about jewelers and specially department stores screwing your G up (demolising the battery lock, loosing the alarm spring, etc).

@bzkyvl
Most G-Shock models use a little spring that makes contact with the little piezo speaker in the back plate. Some however have a small metal piece, that have the same function. It seems that your pre-G-Shock DW-290 has a similat metal piece.
Kind regards,
Sjors

give me one more day and i can tell you!
I gonna need a new thinner battery, cause the one what i got is too thick, same voltage tho.
My watch turned on for a moment than nothing.
I gonna lett you know if i figured out how to make it work :)
wooex 2 years ago
If you make this like he said, your g-shock won't be water-resist anymore...You should take your watch to the casio service.
dennistailor 2 years ago
And pay loads of bucks for a job you can do at home in 10 minutes, and it'll still be water resistable, but not in a same way as a new untouchable one.
BEEMERFAN79 2 years ago
yeah,i think if you not a dummy, worth to try at home. This is what i do now :)
wooex 2 years ago
This is true especially with screwbacks, which require special tools to have them installed properly.
For other backs, effective WR is possible even under user maintenance. The key is to keep the rubber gasket in good condition (ie. careful lubrication and installation, and replacement should the original one show aging).
But then of course, for complete peace of mind, it's worthwhile to pay a little more to have the job done at the authorized dealer.

akqz 2 years ago
@akqz Get some extremely fine conductor metal wire. Must be fine wire to avoid steam ingress.

my casio G-shock 2310 is solar powerd i recently replaced the battery after six years running its recommended replace the battery every five years if its solar . casio,s a beautiful watch that would last years & years if looked after you wouldn,t think mine was six years old & i go diving do lots of swimming casio is highly recommended anyone wishing to buy a new sports divers watch.
magicalmoments2 2 years ago 4
Hmm....I've always thought using solar was to eliminate the need to replace batteries. If you have to replace the batteries on a "solar" watch every 5 years, then I don't see a point of getting a solar watch. Some battery operated G Shocks have battery replacement every 5 years also. Hmmm.....

When I was changing battery, casio dealer told me that watch with 20bar WR must to be closed in atmosphere above normal.
mison2 2 years ago
My Casio dealer is also an authorized Casio Service Center. He has a air conditioned room, but there is no over-pressurized room. We are talking about 20 Bar water resistance. A slightly higher or lower air pressure won't harm as it is only a fraction of the withstand-able pressure.
sjors454 2 years ago
maybe he lie to me..Now I replace battery on mr-g and they do some leakage test. Maybe that is the pressure camber. I am not sure.

I was trying to replace a casio illuminator battery. Although I havent got the new battery yet, I have removed the old one.
Can anyone explain why its important, if it is, to not touch the battery or the metal on the watch with our fingers? And use a plastic tweezer. I only have metal tweezers.
Thanks a lot.
sadgreen 2 years ago
you dont touch it so that no fat from your body fluids (sweat) stays on the battery. if it does it is not good for electricity- battery may use more energy, or sth like that

Thanks. That seems like a good enough reason to me.

And yes, your English is fabulous.
mmsocc 2 years ago

Sjors,
Thank you very much for this video and your other postings on the internet that explain this with photos.

Covonant117 3 years ago
it is very helpful.

I'm glad you showed us how to service a G-Shock - they tend to be more complex than standard watches and necessitate more steps.
Well done, sir.
armorhelix 3 years ago
Hi Jackehackspett,
I know you can change batteries at jeweler.
If you have a good gasket and grease the it good after replacement, there is a fair chance it is 200m WR.
sjors454 3 years ago
When you change battery, in any watches, you never know if you lose the resistant against water. If you are lucky, the watch still will be resistant. But if you put your watch to the watchmaker or jewellery, they can do a pressure test to see if the watch can resist water. This is simply.
jackehackspett 3 years ago
Thanks for this: wish I had looked at it before I lost the little spring on the carpet: I'm going to try to find it with a magnet!
Zigblues 3 years ago
or u can go to a jeweler and have it done professionally without a chance of loosing water resistance

Please note that it is a good Casio dealer. There ar many horor stories about jewelers and specially department stores screwing your G up (demolising the battery lock, loosing the alarm spring, etc).
Cheers,
