i loved this movie so much. but the only thing wrong was that you have a huge planet coming in our world in our atmosphere....dont ya think there would be earthquakes or something if something that big is close to earth?
After the second movie, I wasn't expecting all that much from the third, but it was ok. I just really wanted to see what special effects they could come up with, especially in 3D.
@doltBmB Well obviously it's not like they're going to actually topple a building, let alone build actual living, moving robots. The praise for this movie's effects is for how seamless they are, besides being spectacular.
@Nobiemon Why not? Countless robots and puppets have been built for film, including the dinos in Jurassic Park and the Rancor in ROTJ etc. And ID4 blew up a scale model of the white house. Sometimes I think this CG think rots peoples imaginations and instead of thinking up a practical solution to a real world problem they just go "we'll have to do it in post hur durr"
in the first film the animators were really meticulous with their work thats why it looked really sleek, the second one looked a little choppy since the animators had to do alotta action scenes but the 3rd one seemed to balance it
@TheMightySandwich yes; XSI. search wiki for "softimage XSI" if you want to learn more. there's a free edition for students called the "XSI Mod Tool" which you can use to experiment and play around.
@icannotfly i dont mean to be a know it all.. but pretty sure ILM ditched SI a coupla years ago. their entire pipeline is based on an sofware environment of sorts called Zeno. primary 3D tool - maya.
@TheMightySandwich ILM used to be a big Softimage (XSI) user, but now they use maya instead. Anyway I'm still sure that they still use it today, but less than Maya.
@digitalArtform Dude, if you've worked in the VFX industry, you'd have known better... there is nothing like "time" in the lives of the animators and vfx artists. Believe me. I slept quite a few times at the company we were working at on a much, much smaller production than this monstrosity. I can imagine the hell it must have been to produce such shots.
@loocasduber j/k means 'just kidding.' and the colon followed by the D is something called an emoticon. If you tilt you head sideways it looks like a big smile.
@loocasduber Yeah I hate that. My company is working on a film for this guy. He already has the script done but he refuses to let us start working on anything (including the 100% CG shots) until March.

@suicunesrider Here's something you kids maybe don't know these days, but if you can tell it's an effect at all, it's not "incredible".
