Yes, but they advertised "opening SPRING 2010" to build up interest.....our family scheduled a vacation in SUMMER 6-6 thru 6-17 to go to it only to later find out it wasnt opening until the 18th of JUNE! This was misleading and cost us 750.00 in non refundable tickets and a weeks non refundable housing in fla!

It's not even a full themepark, it's just a very large space inside an already exisiting park... besides, merlin/blackstone owns 50% of Universal, so you may be seeing a park in your neck of the woods in a few years after they test out the concept of a HP park in universal... So instead of hating, why not wait and see what happens, you will probally get a harry potter park sooner or later, it if you do it will probally be a full park, not just a large section of an exsisting one...

I hope this comes out soon, because I'm just buying to buy tickets.

It does make more sense and it's more suitable for a BRITISH setting story to be in Britain. In Orlando, it would look very cheap and fake which is my concern whilst here in Britain we would have the actual location.

I've been hearing the castle is going to be absolutely humongous, with a huge footprint, and will peak at 199 ft tall. what is going up now I believe is just the rock base the castle seems to sit on in the concept art (see the official website for those renderings)
it will include the great hall w/ the enchanted ceiling, and explorable rooms, and possibly some ride within the castle.
supposedly, this will become the cinderella castle of universal.

for alisaalisa, harry is english and hogwarts is in scotland. but i think, for anyone who doubts the location of the theme park, if they put enough money into it they can make orlando look like anywhere. just look at what disney resently did with animal kingdom. it looks like the african savanna, india, nepal, and china all at the same time. when you stand on the opposite end of the park from the everest ride, the way they built it actually makes it look like a scale sized mountain.
if universal can manage that and not just concentrate on money like they have with the movies it will be something i will be very happy to take my kids to, in a couple of years

Cheap real estate purchased years and years ago by the entertainment park people. They needed lots of land for a very low price. Plus, Orlando is smart enough not to complain when a new attraction gets built - and Americans tend to spend a lot on these attractions but don't go to Europe. So, in the end, it's about money not authenticity.
I just read the article at the website and I can't hardly wait until this awesome attraction opens up in Universal Studios Island of Adventure! I'll have to make that my vacation in the summer of 2009.

as much as I love England, I have to agree with you. I know the Harry Potter world is all situated in the UK and essentially there are many british traditions apart from the fact it is an idea (HP) coming from a British person. BUT American has much more experience and I feel it will be a great thing..
The man who designed the look of the films and who is in charge of the design of the theme park is British.
The books that inspired ALL of this are thoroughly British, and the movies are made in England, by Brits (I'm talking beyond the directors) so I think you need to give a bit more credit to the Poms, I think they could pull it off probably even better than the Americans (I'm thinking how much Hogwarts appeared to be set in california in the first two films).

Be happy you are getting a "theme park within a theme park at all". It would have been unwise to put it in the UK simply because it's theme park tourism industry isnt strong enough to support the kind of money that is being pored into this project. people are gonna come to orlando regardless of HP and more people are going to go to orlando because of HP. Us U.S blokes dont go traveling to the UK for themeparks... But you guys do, and so does the rest of the world. That's why it's here...

I agree with boffinme. Britain isn't getting a lot of chance like we used to.
Mainly all the good stuff is going to Orlando and not leaving a trace to the country it first came from.
It does make more sense and it's more suitable for a BRITISH setting story to be in Britain. In Orlando, it would look very cheap and fake which is my concern whilst here in Britain we would have the actual location.

Oh, I really really hope we can walk around. I hope they don't pull a Walt Disney stunt and make the castle lame like Cinderella's castle...Nothing in there but a gift shop, and you can't even walk around in it.

yes it can and it should. but they better realize a lot of the kids in 1999 are teenagers so i hope they have several rides and stuff for adults. i don't wanna just go "shopping' as I heard is going to happen for the older kids. i heard kiddie rides. I wanna see a Splash mountain kinda thing but the story of Harry on a new ADVENTURE. then we dip with him on his broomstick down a big slope.

I've been hearing the castle is going to be absolutely humongous, with a huge footprint, and will peak at 199 ft tall. what is going up now I believe is just the rock base the castle seems to sit on in the concept art (see the official website for those renderings)
it will include the great hall w/ the enchanted ceiling, and explorable rooms, and possibly some ride within the castle.
supposedly, this will become the cinderella castle of universal.

they should have a minotaur in the forest where you can take pictures with him, a hippograff you can get on and have a picture taken, and a candy shop (with candy like in the movie, but not released, at least not in USA) ohhhh AND A MAGIC SHOP. all the shops i know of closed down :(

for alisaalisa, harry is english and hogwarts is in scotland. but i think, for anyone who doubts the location of the theme park, if they put enough money into it they can make orlando look like anywhere. just look at what disney resently did with animal kingdom. it looks like the african savanna, india, nepal, and china all at the same time. when you stand on the opposite end of the park from the everest ride, the way they built it actually makes it look like a scale sized mountain.

Cheap real estate purchased years and years ago by the entertainment park people. They needed lots of land for a very low price. Plus, Orlando is smart enough not to complain when a new attraction gets built - and Americans tend to spend a lot on these attractions but don't go to Europe. So, in the end, it's about money not authenticity.

as much as I love England, I have to agree with you. I know the Harry Potter world is all situated in the UK and essentially there are many british traditions apart from the fact it is an idea (HP) coming from a British person. BUT American has much more experience and I feel it will be a great thing..

The man who designed the look of the films and who is in charge of the design of the theme park is British.
The books that inspired ALL of this are thoroughly British, and the movies are made in England, by Brits (I'm talking beyond the directors) so I think you need to give a bit more credit to the Poms, I think they could pull it off probably even better than the Americans (I'm thinking how much Hogwarts appeared to be set in california in the first two films).
