What a disgrace. It is embarassing taking my family here to my family reunion every Labor Day weekend. I still have great memories of the mid 70's to 80's
I have not been there in almost 11 years, I can however tell you when I remember it there were actually cars on the road..... looks like you never have to fight traffic
thank god for the military.... im so glad i left this hole... its home, and i miss it, but theres nothin there.. be home next week! to the cove! noffsinger
Though the town did suck economic wise and what not and did not have anything big, it was a blast growing up there. So many memories. A good small place to live.
Ashtabula is a joke and so are all of you trying to defend it. it sucks and always will!! Thank the idiots you other idiots vote back into office evry year!!
This video must have been taken on a Sunday..Because MAIN AVE. usually has cars parked on either side...True there isn't much left there but is still a nice town. I wasn't born here but I was raised in Bula (Saybrook). I now live in the city. The city has become a real joke. City officials are always arguing over little things. Sis
SO WHO is your dad ?? I lived there for 43 years.. & moved away in 1994, it was a WONDERFUL town to grow up in ( the 50& 60's ). In the 70's the population growth stopped & it has been ALL downhill from there. I will ALWAYS claim it as my ' hometown' but like all things , they NEVER stay the same. Very SAD ...~
searching for coldplay music I stumbled upon this video. DANG! Even the WORSE parts of my city look a lot better.... Hope this town recovers after the economic crisis.
It's been in a crisis since the late 70's, which is why I left. Factories closed, a mall was built and all the merchants moved to the mall, but now the mall is almost empty too. It's called "a corrupt government". The only thing left to enjoy is the historic harbor, and the beach. A wonderful tourist attraction and summer resort. Hope the city doesn't ruin that too,
I moved back to Ashtabula last year after being gone for several years. While I agree with most of the comments, I still believe this can be a great town again. What I don't understand is why we're building 'America's Longest Covered Bridge'(600 ft long!), when the economy is so obviously depressed. Thanks for posting the vid. I might post some from down at Walnut Beach or Lake Shore Park this summer. I may not swim in the water, but the sunsets are beautiful.
huh driving and taping thats how ppl get hit!lol this town is such a disaster specially after the ic3e storm.ohwell nice to see there are other youtubers from bula!
bula sucks bad you saw the roads they been like that since i moved from new jersey in 2001 i use to live a town just like bula when i went back this past summer you cant even tell that was the old town they have gotten so much better bula needs somebody that knows how to run things.
I cant believe i grew up there.. and i still go there alot to visit family.. Bula is so depressing.. The mall is too.. walmart in eastlake hasmore ppl there on regular basis then the ashtabula mall does on Black Friday.. i think bula is cursed and i dont know why they wont do anything with that hotel
Interesting point. I wonder if there is some sort of bad history dating back to the relations dating back to the original native American people or some sort of evil behavior by the founding fathers.
Is that the old Carlisle's building you parked in front of at 2:19? I grew up there but have not been back since 1985. I can't believe it's been 22 years.
Yup, that's the old Carlisle's. The current owner is in prison for unpaid taxes on the property, I think. I heard the city or someone wants it torn down, but the Master Masons are still above and next to it.
TxAnn, are Master Masons part of the Free Masons? Free Masonry was big in Ashtabula back in the 40's & 50's and probably on into the 60's from what I know of. Which, by the way, has some dark history.
There is a place in Ashtabula called the 'Grotto Hall'. It has these initials on the sign... M.O.V.P.E.R. I always kind of wondered what they stood for. I was there for a benefit one time, and it stands for Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm. Anyone have any thoughts or facts on this? As far as I know, the Masons are still influential in the community. Creepy.
Yep thats Trashtabula!!!!

Nice choice of song for a drive down Main Avenue. Used to buy comics at the Park News past the tracks and cookies at Swedish Pastry.
It was a nice place to grow up...almost 40 years ago.
