When the Neverending story came out in Germany I got hold on a copy of the Behind the scenes book. It was such a great little inside view into the making of the movie and it introduced the stars. Plus the few minor bumps on the way of making THE NEVERENDING STORY / DIE UNENDLICHE GESCHICHTE

I am not quite sure how Wolfgang Petersen convinced Tami to do this scene...but I remember that he was pretty excited the way it worked out. And he called afterwards to Tami "A Star Is Born".

But actually Tami Stronach didnt want to be a part of the movie business or an actress. She dreamed of being a dancer, which she achieved ( I guess its here on Youtube as well ).

The name of the empress became, "moon child" Bastian's mom was a "moon child". I looked it up on a several scripts.

THIS FILM WAS ORIGINALLY 4 HOURS LONG WHEN IT WAS RELEASED TO THEATRES IN EUROPE AND WARNER BROS. STUDIOS CUT 2 and 1/2 HOURS OUT WHEN THEY RELEASED IT TO THE US and CANADA. After reading the book I realize that most of the story is missing and its a shame the film wasn't restored to the original length at least for the video and DVD.

This was told by Neverending Story's NOAH HATHAWAY (Atreyu) himself at a SCI-FI Fan Convention and his opinion was he thought 4 hours was too long. MY OPINION IS that may be true for a theatre film BUT, today DVD's and VIDEO's with the EXTENDED SPECIAL EDITIONS, fans WANT complete films with missing scenes restored. Somewhere in the world there may be a PIRATE COPY of the complete 4 hour film. Warner Bros. has no plans to release the complete film on video or DVD.
