i don't think he uses vicory poses too much....but here, he is just so happy to have skated like that when his foot is a total mess! a man to be admired!!!
@hujikokko Well... here, there is no excess of victory poses -- you forget a very important detail on that day : one of his feet was hurting very much but he had decided to skate anyway. What you see here is Yagudin fighting with himself to go till the end of the program !!!
God, I love this sp the most, but my heart is always ache when I watch this because the judges didn't let him win even by this kind of breathtaking performance. He did win the heart of the audience though.
People have been asking how he ended up in 3rd place - it was the qualifying round that did him in.
I think he was in 8th or 10th place entering the SP (maybe worse? I can't remember, and can't find the standings even though I googled it) - so he needed the performance of a life-time, which he gave, in my opinion.
With a messed up foot and a hip that is totally deteriorating thsi guy just dusts all comers in my book. LOVE YOU LEXEI!! No crying or excusses just getting the job done!!! HIP REPLACEMENT AND THE MAN IS TILL SKATING A REAL ARTIST AND WARRIOR!!! GO LEXEI!!
@crazyasianman07 he won the silver here. He placed 5th in the qualies (A), 2nd in the SP and 2nd in the FS. EP won the gold, 1(A)-1-1 and Todd won the bronze, 2(A)-3-3
Absolutely! I thought his grades should have been higher - - he said this was one of his most memorable programs because of his injured foot. No one can beat his footwork and spins; his arm movements are always exquisite - - no one has matched his magic and passion, his choreography thus far. He was one of the few skaters who used his arms to make his program look interesting AS he speeded up for jumps, instead of just racing down to the end. I love his backwards skating - - ephemeral.
well, Alexei IS a tremendous performer, a LEGENDARY skater, and there is nothing to top it for sure! You know, recalling those gloomy forecasts for his ability to skate after the surgery, it's amazing that he is in great shape now, can skate and perform as a professional. He is extremely talented, a true champion and WINNER. Im just happy that we can see him skate and not be in pain, as he used to be prior and after the Olympics.. he fought his way through..
well, it certainly WOULD be great, but due to evertyhing he had to go through with his injury, unfortunately there is no way Alex can make a come back. However sad that is. for instance, he can't do a quad now, just because it takes so much strength and loooong-loooong hours of constant training... But he still performs as a professional, which is great! He's always have and WILL BE THE BEST skater out there, just because his will and fighter quality are amazing!
the passion in this video is amazing ..it's like I am skating with him..i love it ...and I love what Alexei does on ice.I think he has been the only skater that has ever touched perfection
Wow, he's amazing (in case it's not been said enough times already:). Don't remember much from Yagudin's era, apart from the Iron Mask, I'm sort of rediscovering him via youtube, and this is one the greatest masterpieces I've found. 5.9 for presentation for sure. It's a pity the commentary spoils the video a bit at one point. Yagudin is such a pleasure to watch on the ice, he inspires something in you - he knows what he's great at and gives it all when he should... a wonderful attitude.
did he win here?

Evgeni has my heart but even I have to admit this was a terrific SP, the footwork especially was stunning.

The audience knew he was robbed! He knew it too and that's all that really matters. He knew he skated his ass off!

That was a f'ing great skate. 3rd my ass!!
Sometime Plush beat him fair and sqaure but nto this time!!! GRRRRR!!!

I think he won the SP actually. I can't quite remember.
He was third because of the qualifying round - which was a disaster. They don't have qualifying rounds anymore.

@crazyasianman07 the "3rd after the short" remark already took into account his performance in the qualies and the SP.
