Darn good for having been recorded on Hand Cam. Being a musician myself(drums vocals) I know first hand that the sound mix out front is always going to be better than it is on the side of the stage. At any live gig, the P.A. and sound man are key. The higher the stage volume, the harder it is for the system to isolate sound and the plyers rely on a good monitor mix to be able to hear each other. I'm sure this gig sounded killer in the middle of the room out front. Robert is killing it as usual.
This is a rockin' blues track. Robert Cray and the keyboard player are rippin'. I'll be looking for an album with this song on it because I don' seem to be able to hear Keb Mo's vocals or guitar all that well.
Hi musos - It's Jeff Paris - keys, harp etc for Keb Mo to give you a little info on the clip you're seeing. It was filmed using a Sony handycam by one of the roadies, from his spot at stage right. As you can hear, he's close to the Organ speaker - - which was set too high!!!(oops). We use "in ear" monitors by Ultimate Ears, to reduce onstage sound. That's why you can't hear the vocals and the guitar and harmonica seems low. But out front where the audience was, trust me, it was slamming.
In this Keb Mo video, this is what I want to do! I want to play in a band with some good musicians, I work with all guys, so girls or guys, whatever, and have fun! Do some dancing, do some laughing, and put on a show! while playing some good music!
Fantastic stuff!! Just love Keb Mo...got to see him twice here in New Zealand and actually spoke to him after the show one year. He was headin' downtown by himself, to go check Wellington out! lolol Both times he visited, he played solo. Was shocked when we saw that the first time, but once he had that guitar and started strumming, we were lost. The man is a genius and much loved in our house.
Keb's great -- what makes me wonder is Robert Cray's moves here... lmao... Is that a form of dancing, or what on earth do you call that???

Nice! Great feel. What a shame about the mix. Would love to be able to hear the vocal a bit more clearly
