  • KONY 2012

  • MLK + Where The Streets Have No Name + September 11th Tribute= Magic, Pure Magic. Best Halftime show ever.

  • Such a powerful moment when the curtain falls down, reminiscent of the towers... Hands down the best Superbowl appearence, they couldnt have picked a better band to showcase the tribute.

  • This was great! The second best superbowl halftime show, after Madonna of course.

  • @gogoutube she doesn't even make the top ten. Anyone can lip sync

  • @osukufan2 bitch please. millions of people literally pissed their pants due to the sheer greatness and thrill of watching madonna vogue the shit out of the stadium. if singing live is the most important thing of a performance, then you don't understand pop music at all. besides, she sang "like a prayer" 100% live at the end and it was spectacular.

  • @gogoutube - on the contrary, we understand pop music just fine. Look at it! Isn't it cute?

  • @gogoutube U2's performance here brought a wounded nation together. Madonna is an embarrassment to the world of music, and you sir are an idiot for believing that lip syncing with other manufactured and soulless pop 'stars' constitutes something other than an incredibly inferior performance to U2's. She was absolutely shocking, this was era defining. End of. Idiot.

  • @gogoutube like a prayer was spectacular, but she ruined the performance by singing give me all your lovin with nicki minaj, and also getting lmfao on stage

  • @Chumpster1981, yeah - I guess the NFL doesn't know how BAD lip synch can be. IMO leave the sports up to them and the entertainment to performers (and sports entertainment to the WWE, etc...). That and canned laughter are a total joke.

  • But this and Prince are probably the best ever perfomances.. Well and Jacksons back in the 90's

  • No STUPID (ahem Madonna) lip synch! :)

  • @rayljr I agree, but the NFL now makes all singers lip sync for perfection i guess. For the superbowl that is. Ive seen madonna sing live and I was bugged by it but then i read about it .

  • When you need a personality, you call Madonna. When you need a personality with the talent to back it up, you call Prince. When you need help healing an entire nation, you call U2.

  • It's so pathetic that all people can say about Madonna is how Old and Saggy she is. Yet her and Bono are the same age. The retarded sunglasses and obvious hair plugs get no mention. Also if Madonna read out the 911 victims it would be "what a bitch for using their memory for publicity" I do like U2...just not when they tell my government now to govern.

  • In the planet of Ciconne fans, this beautiful song is "boring". OK then.

  • Lip sync vs. Live singing: each have their pros and cons. All Bono had to do was stand there with a mic & walk back and forth a few times and that was his show. Without the scroll of names in his background, this is a really, really boring performance. Oh, and look, he ran a lap around the stage! Fun! Madonna's, while not live, was at least visually entertaining and well choreographed performance of some of her greatest hits plus her current smash hit. Bono sang ONE really boring song! Bleh!

  • @RussellBW Oh dear oh dear. Madonna performance was nearly as bad as last years.

  • @RussellBW You're an idiot.

  • @RussellBW Well to think of the time and what just happened on 911, I think this song was spot on. Madonna is crap. Yes a bunch of people danced around on the stage showing their asses??? If you want that, then go to the circus!

U2..........way better! Yes an older song but timeless!

  • @RussellBW your honestly retarded... this was the greatest most inspirational halftime show. And if i take away what your standards are, then madonna would also have had no backround dancers, dancing or anything, if it was just that old saggy whore on the stage with her deteriorating voice, it wouldve sucked even more then it actually did. which would be saying something. bono, this song, that scroll.. proud to be an american, your a fucking chode

  • @RussellBW all madonna had to do was appear as if she was singing and then rely upon large numbers of professional dancers to cover up her mediocre dancing. fuck you

  • @RussellBW douche bag!! the "scroll of names in his background" were of people who died!! it was a tribute!! that's what makes it so special!!! i don't see anything special about madonna's performance she is a 50 year old woman wanting to feel in her 20's again!

  • I came here too after re-watching the visually amazing but stupid lip-sync rodeo Madonna delivered. U2 delivered what a Super Bowl half-time show should be! And it should be standing at the top spot as the best one ever...

  • @pedropmx3

It is #1 on most lists.

  • I love in laden damn you Obama

  • Best halftime show ever!

  • Best Halftime Show Ever!! People

Went to a U2 show and got a free

    Football Game

Madonna was all lip sync. It looked like she had enough spackle on to put the local painters out of business.

  • I'm a man, and I cried when I saw every single name. Remember it like it was yesterday. This really put it perspective. Best halftime show ever. Best song to put it to. God bless the U.S., the victims, and U2. :D

  • now THAT'S a Superbowl Halftime show! Modanna's special effects were sick, I'll give it that. but not even those stand up to how this went down!

  • Comment removed

  • THIS is what a halftime show should be. Something to remember, something with meaning, and most of all, something that is timeless.

#1 Best Halftime Show on Most Best of All Time Lists for a reason!

  • Had to come back and watch this after that awful Madonna performance

  • Thumbs up if you're hear instead of watching stupid Madonna.

  • @MrRendezvous101 I'm "here" instead lol.

  • I was 14 when I saw this after 9/11 and thought it was so touching for the, to include all those who lost their lives that day.

  • Madonna who??

  • i am after coming in my pants

  • THE best Super Bowl Halftime show ever

  • U2 is the best. There performance anywhere, you know they care and give it their all. Thank you to all the band memebers.

  • Very touching, Bono/U2 is Unique.

  • I'd rather see this again than see Madonna doing the halftime show.

  • @ViceWorld u2 is the best band in the world you wish you could blow them lol

  • uh....I think it's you sucking and blowing at the same time sir.

  • No other performance, of any kind, sticks in my memory as U2's feat at the Super Bowl. I am thankful to have watched it on TV as it was happening.

  • Wow, amazing half time show. That was a great tribute to all who lost their lives in that very horrible day of 9/11. It was so cool to see Bono show his support for our nation in this very dark time; when he flipped open his jacket to display the Stars and Stripes, I thought thank you... thank you.

  • I was there, it was amazing! Very few dry eyes in the Superdome that night. I got kinda misty just watching it again.

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • @youremyboyblue2010 Screw the queen.

  • I remember losing it during this halftime performance when I was 12..I was one of the last generations to truly grasp what had happened and the significance so ever since their performance I get choked up when I hear this song.

  • Halftime shows have really gone downhill since this. U2 rocks!

  • U2 can do no wrong. They are my Rock Gods!

  • This was by far the BEST superbowl performance!

  • Was there a football game?

  • @cubistrebel shut up faggit he is showing respect ans show respect to those thtst have died and its a super bowl half time show thts showing respect dumb fuck

  • I manage to keep my emotions in check throughout the song, but every time I see Bono open his jacket to reveal the American Flag lining, I lose it! Nothing could have been better during that time than this performance!

  • 12 minutes of rock and roll history...

  • America!

  • That whole football season was nothing to me. I was in some kind of emotional funk due to the attacks. Then this halftime show came out with an honor to the fallen cresting behind them, U2 some how brought my emotions to the fore and I felt reconnected to the world and my own country. This was the moment I began to heal. Very real. Even now.

  • though i wanted to puke when i saw the patriots win, i'll never forget this amazing halftime show, greatest ever

  • U2 is a great band to be sure, but I still think an American band should have played this half-time.

    Good riddance Osama

  • @ukpolemic I see your point but U2 singing just showed that there were other countries who were sympathetic to what the USA had just experienced. I thought it showed remarkable support.

  • It gives me creeps!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • Gives me chills every time I watch this. U2s finest hour.

  • @cubistreble... What have you done to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11? After that beautiful performance to remember those lives lost you want to bitch that he had the American flag sewed into his jacket. Shut the FUCK up, or better yet stop watching their video if your so fucking offended... Dumbass.

  • Everytime I watch this performance I cry ;(

  • Best halftime show ever. Black Eyed Peas who?

  • Well said @kidheff! This performance made everyone in our watch party shut up. If you could have realized the magnitude of that watching it live on tv was amazing. Damn me this video does it no justice after you watch folks jump from a building live 800 ft to their death. You just had to be old enough to know it but well said my friend

  • U2 deifnitely has a distinct sound. I love them, and they fit in with Zepplin Floyd The Who and a lot more.

  • Love this tune!

My band THE COLLECTIVE do a version of Bullet the blue sky.

Feel free to check it out and comment.

    Thanks

  • It's hard not to cry...

  • Love this video and this band. U2 is the biggest band in the world. Their music touches my soul.

  • still one of the best performances i've ever seen.

  • makes me cry everytime is see it.

  • It makes me cry, f*ck he Did :s what angel's voice :D

  • 8 people don't like football nor real music

  • Billdasquid, I am sorry you lost friend but I am glad you found comfort with this song/performance. Stay strong and be well. I will always think about you and friend when I reflect upon this occasion.

  • should definitely perform at the 2012 super bowl

  • @boythisisfun13

The performances suck SO much, U2 should get to play EVERY super bowl

  • I completely agree w Timstatic. A rock band from Ireland uniting America. THE single most important musical performance in American history. Bar none.

  • Still the best live musical performance in the history of recorded musical performances. period.

  • today its 9/11/11 i lost mu friend i can't stop crying i feel a little better now

    thanks u2

  • @palkomike23 would've been more fitting if a new york team won it

  • When he opened his jacket, it was the first time I realized that this wasn't just one nation's tragedy, it was Earth's tragedy. It established a connection with me at a very young age when I first saw this video. It's as if he's saying, "Hey, we may not be Americans, but we're connected to this event. We're one in the same." God bless America and God bless U2.

  • After he starts with "MLK" he's then reciting Psalm 51.15 - O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. Followed by "Where The Streets have no Name".

  • No matter how many times I watch this....I still get the goosebumps.

  • @yragoam me too

  • Comment removed

  • I hate U2 but this performance made me cry. God Bless America.

  • amazing

  • i miss u2 does anyone know when songs of acsent comes out?

  • @MrDbtx Not sure. Since it was scheduled for a 2010 release. I know that Bono said that the band is going to be taking a long break. He said not to expect anything from U2 for a LONG WHILE. appx 5-10 years. I HOPE HE'S KIDDING.

  • They need to come back for the 10th anniversary SB, 2012.

  • Merci.

  • There are some things done on this earth that once they are planned, thought out, and rehearsed, once it's showtime, the entire thing is touched, or otherwise blessed beyond earthly measure. It is as if the entire program is lifted beyond human limits.

  • @captainamerica1967us wow very deep.

  • Goosebumps always. Never fails. Especially when he says "Oh, Lord, open my lips so I might show forth thy praise"....

  • Goosebumps always. Never fails.

  • I had goose bumps when I it first saw it at the game and I still have goose bumps. Powerful. Simple, the group and the audience.

  • a product of ireland......celtic soul.....

  • I love his smile at 6:12.

  • u2 in the superbowl, any weeks after 1109, this song in one of better of U2

  • 6 people are out of their mind

  • Wow, I get goosebumps every time I listen to this!! U2 is just perfection here, no one else can do this on the same ievel or even close!!!

  • I really hope U2 does the SB this year and does the exact same thing... this will always be the best the best half time show....ever.

  • seriously? 6 people disliked this? how can u do that?

  • This was absolutely flawless. No halftime show (or any 9/11 remembrance for that matter) will top this in a century or more.

They didn't ram patriotism or "an agenda" down anybody's throat - it was just a chilling (and eye watering) tribute to the 9-11-01 victims. It's almost as if Bono wrote this 'Joshua tree' classic to be performed in this manner ... it's really that deep, IMO.

Thank you for being my generation's "The Beatles", my Irish brothers!

  • man the black eyed peas sucked so hard... what an embarrassment compared to this. just saw there show in pgh unreal

  • i wanna dance in the louisiana rain too!

  • why would anyone dislike this video

  • Its America... the 6 dislikes have the right to feel that way ... my opinion they can drop dead!

  • U2 have set an unreachable bar for all of the further half time acts. This is beyond words. A spectacular explosion of emotion and raw talent by each individual band member. U2 are the epitome of live performance. To embody the hope that is hidden beneath the mourning of a country is a miraculous accomplishment, and in this performance, U2 did just that.

  • fucking mental

  • I'm from New England and was only 8 at the time of this Super Bowl and remember seeing my Patriots win it all. Over 9 years later, U2 has become my favorite band and to realize that I missed this performance is a shame. I remember talk about this performance afterwards but was too young to understand the magnitude of it.

In retrospect, I realize that die-hard Americans had a bigger victory than those who were only die-hard Patriots fans. All because of an Irish band.

    God bless U2.

  • probably the most epic concert scene in history at 1:46-1:53

  • "Oh Lord open my lips, and from my mouth show forth thy praise."

  • does anybody see a dislike bar?

  • u see a dislike bar?

  • best performance ever!

  • Best halftime show ever! This is what a halftime show SHOULD be - a singular, outstanding performance. Not a schlocky mix of over-hyped, over-wrought pop crap that seems to be case every year

  • Damn I got chills when the names came up because I forgot which performance this was.

  • Why would anyone dislike this??

  • I'm so surprised 6 people pushed thumbs down button.

    WHAT DO THEY MEAN!?

  • best halftime show ever, with also probably one of the biggest gaffes ever for a halftime show. ik it was dark during the halftime show, but really. NO American flags? c'mon it was so obvious that they should of used that instead of the glowsticks, but this was the best halfime show in Super Bowl history.

  • RIP Betty Ong and all those other brave men. women and children that didn't deserve to die on that horrible day. Great job U2 on doing a wonderful performance!

  • Can anyone tell me what he says before he starts singing the song... something about from my lips...

  • @MsKookiez "O Lord, open Thou my lips,. and my mouth shall show forth Thy praise" psalm 51:15... and my Christian friends say they're not a Christian rock band...

  • @kekler101 Tell your friends they are...they're just not "in your face" like some bands.

  • @w5pda U2 is NOT a christian band

  • @flossy411 In that case, perhaps someone can explain why they have strong Catholic and Anglican backgrounds and at least one of their songs have strong Christian undertones. When I was replying to kekler101, I didn't mean they were a Christian band in the sense that groups like 'Point of Grace' and 'Casting Crowns' undoubtedly are.

  • @w5pda Cool, I can understand that. There is no doubt a lot of their songs contain christian themes, I just don't want people to think of them in the same vain as in "Creed" or something

  • No laser light show, blinding pyro, special guest appearances or other half time nonsense. Just a band, a message and a great song. Enough said.

  • @logan12378 yeah i noticed that this is the only halftime show of the past 20 or so years not to have any kind of pyros

  • I'm From Mexico, but I have a lot of love by the Americans and I know that 11/09/01' was a vey tough moment from The U.S.A I was only 4 years old when this happen, and now I see videos and was a terrible thing.Dear Osama Bin Laden take that!!

  • Who the fuck are all those people waving glow sticks?

  • I could cry every time I watch this.

  • @VanSweringenFilms I was just showing my girlfriend this video and I couldn't help but feel a little misty eyed. She's not from the US so she didn't really understand, but I told her she had to be here in the country at the time to really understand why it's so important. Just an emotional time.

  • 9/11 not forgotten but allways a part of us.

  • I don't like U2's music at all but this made me cry. AMERICA!

  • If this performance doesn't move you, then I'm sorry but you have no soul.

  • Justice is always served in the end.

Thanks for playing a part in the healing process on such a big stage, U2.

  • ever wonder why U2 likes to sing their old hits? Because their new songs are not that good, IMHO.

  • @afby

    what a douche u r...

  • @fame777 then why are they kept on playing their old stuff?

  • He is soo fucking deaaaaadddd!!! With a shot in the head! This is just beautiful

  • "we got him. WE GOT HIM!" Randy Marsh

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

  • OSAMA IS DEAD FUCK YESSSSS HAHAHHAHAA GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • how fitting is it that the PATRIOTS won the championship after 9/11.

  • Why can I not go to any videos with out stupid "Thumbs up" comments? I mean really. It's getting pathetic.

  • man that guitar at the beginning gives me chills everytime, truly great stuff

  • 6 dislikes: terrorists, the black eyed peas, and/or usher. how do you dislike this?

  • POWERFULL STUFF!!

  • bono till i die

  • such an awesome band. Fans went to see a U2 halftime show and got a free superbowl. (too bad it was the cheatriots, you cant have everything I guess)

  • This was a magical, uplifting moment; watching the band's reaction during the song and after it was finished, even they knew they were part of something special. The roar that ensued when Bono opened his jacket at the end was utterly profound.

  • 6 ppl still
