Minter was a good fighter, not a great fighter, Hagler was a great fighter. Minter had a poor fight plan.Minter kept his head static. Hagler was sharper moved well and did not cut like Minter. Minter fought the best he could, he was a solid fighter , no doubt, but he fought a great. Ray Leonard had a great fight plan , moving around the ring and throwing fast tapping punches. Hagler was just a touch slow in that fight , but I gave it to hagler by 1 round .

I give Minter a lot of credit here. #1 he fought Hagler. (could of ducked him for a while) #2 he fought like a man, not running and back peddling like Tommy Hearns and Mrs. Ray Leonard. #3 For two rounds he held his own against one of the greatest Middleweights ever. Nothing to be ashamed of Alan. You gave it your all and as a Hagler fan from Brockton, MA I say you gave it one hell of an effort.

Granted he fought at a weaker level at MW during the 80-83 era, european level people like , sumbu kalambay,herol graham,benn,eubanks,collins and watson were not really around at this time. Sibson instead beat the roy gumbs and dwight davisons of the world and of course a tough former world champion in minter but nontheless he was a tough up and comer who many people thought would be haglers toughest defence to that point hence why so many people rate marv 4 it

i think sibbo was a great fighter. He was Hagler's biggest win at the time and earned him distinction as the sport's best p4p fighter. Had Sibbo come along in 87 instead of 1983 he would have surely lifted the crown from hagler's head as their was nothing left of him at that point

Minter was a good fighter, not a great fighter, Hagler was a great fighter. Minter had a poor fight plan.Minter kept his head static. Hagler was sharper moved well and did not cut like Minter. Minter fought the best he could, he was a solid fighter , no doubt, but he fought a great. Ray Leonard had a great fight plan , moving around the ring and throwing fast tapping punches. Hagler was just a touch slow in that fight , but I gave it to hagler by 1 round .

I give Minter a lot of credit here. #1 he fought Hagler. (could of ducked him for a while) #2 he fought like a man, not running and back peddling like Tommy Hearns and Mrs. Ray Leonard. #3 For two rounds he held his own against one of the greatest Middleweights ever. Nothing to be ashamed of Alan. You gave it your all and as a Hagler fan from Brockton, MA I say you gave it one hell of an effort.

it was wrong to say it, but what about Hopkins remarks to Calzaghe over 20yrs later, shocking! Sibbo faired better & was only one of two fighters Hagler admitted hurt him, the other was Mugabi! Minter was a top fighter but lost about seven fights because of cuts, not saying he would of beat Marvin. but having fagile skin don"t help in a fighting sport, that"s for sure!

Cosell apparently hid under the ring while the fans were throwing the missiles. Later when Hagler left the stadium in a car a British fan threw a brick and smashed the windshield. As a Brit I'm ashamed of this, a lot of national front were there that night.

I recall a pre fight interview with both boxers on BBC grandstand. The interviewer noticed that Minter hadn't shaved for some time. Minter commented that he preferred the rough edge that his
more hirsuite appearance gave him. Hagler was heard to say "I don't need no stubble, man!" I reckoned there and then that Minter was in trouble and so it proved. Hagler left him looking like a butcher's window.

he was a tough young prospect. Granted he fought at a weaker level at MW during the 80-83 era, european level people like , sumbu kalambay,herol graham,benn,eubanks,collins and watson were not really around at this time. Sibson instead beat the roy gumbs and dwight davisons of the world and of course a tough former world champion in minter but nontheless he was a tough up and comer who many people thought would be haglers toughest defence to that point hence why so many people rate marv 4 it

i think sibbo was a great fighter. He was Hagler's biggest win at the time and earned him distinction as the sport's best p4p fighter. Had Sibbo come along in 87 instead of 1983 he would have surely lifted the crown from hagler's head as their was nothing left of him at that point

My Dad was at this fight. Noone had heard of Hagler over here and we all though Alan would walk this fight. Until they actually stood next to each other. Marv was a lot bigger than people thought and all of a sudden everyone wasnt so sure. From the off there was only ever gonna be one result. Marvin was probably my favourite boxer of all time. Oh of a middleweight division like the old days Hagler Hearns Leonard, Duran Fantastic.

But did you know that before that, Hagler had refused to shake his hand, and said "I don't touch white flesh." So actually, Marvin said racist crap first. Now, that might have been because Marvin heard about some other words from Minter in the past, but... there is more to the story. When Minter is interviewed now, he is not an obvious racist.

@dan32113 sorry but looking at the sibo fight, Hagler never appeared hurt. same against mugabi though this fwas probably his most physically exhausting fight. the only time I saw him hurt was against tommy hearns when he literally covered up and didn't throw punches for about 10 secs after hearns nailed him with a right hand. Hearns was the only fighter that was close to stopping Hagler. Cleanly

He suffered cuts (as do lots of fighters... not their fault) which played a big part in curtailing his career. For a while there though Minter was one of the best around, on the cusp of a time when there were more top class middleweights than ever before or ever since. He fully deserves his share of credit for that, whatever he may have said.

I actually think if Naz had stuck with Ingle he could have done Barrera. He was immensely talented but lost his desire a bit towards the end. I scored the Hopkins fight against Joe the other week but it was close so could be argued either way. Hatton is a little bit overhyped in my opinion & never in Mayweathers league.
