Incredibly haunting and mesmerizing. The music and opening scenes are devestating. The first time I heard it I thought it was Donny Hathaway. Such an underrated movie.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS STEVIE WONDER 2 BUT YEA THIS SONG IS VERY SOULFUL ITS SETS THE TONE OF DAT WHOLE MOVIE WHICH IS A COLD MOVIE AND YES VERY UNDERATED
As the composer/producer of this piece, its very heartening to read all of your kind words. When this came out, I tried to get it considered for an NAACP award as well as for the Academy Award (this was years b4 3-6 Mafia LOL).
Needless to say those things didn't happen. But I knew the work was honest and over time would reach people. Thank you for receiving it.
@uegmusic THANK YOU SIR, for giving it to us to receive. A sublime piece, which touches me as much now as when I first heard it all those years ago. God bless.
@uegmusic Thanks for such a great piece it captures the the true essence of my pain I lost my cousin a week ago.after coming home from 12 years I told him leave the past behind,he wouldn't let go.Now he's gone in less than 6 months.
Producer composer Raymond Jones was keyboards of legendary group CHIC and the CHIC Organization (Le Freak, Good Times, We are family, Upside down,...)

I remember the first time I heard this song, sitting in the cinema watching Clockers back in '94 or '95. I was completely mesmerised by it and actually thought it was Stevie singing it before seeing it was Marc Dorsey when the credits rolled.
I bought the soundtrack a couple of days after seeing the movie 'cause I just had to have this one song. The Chaka Khan track on it "Love Me Still" is fantastic also.
@kenyancheena- Marc sounds a lot like Stevie... I remember sitting in the theater too like "Wow, Stevie's singing is really subdued" But saw the end credits and saw it was him... Marc's a great singer nonetheless
@kenyancheena Yeah right!!! I was convinced for over a decade that this was Stevie Wonder!! Had the film on video, but never thought to check the end credits. I was mainly into Hiphop and was really chuffed to hear the Crooklyn Part 2 choon, coz that was one of many faves that had been bouncing about long before I'd even heard of Clockers, Jeru, Masta Ace n Chubb Rock hit with loads of classicks back then!!! This song I so beautiful, I remember that I bough the soundtrack straight after have seen the movie.
Check out the cats, Marc Dorsey singing, Branford Marsalis, Kenny "The Doctone" Kirkland, Bob Hurst, Jeff "Tain" Watts, the strings on this song are beautiful to cry, respect.
The sadness associated with this song is profound. Everytime I hear this song I visualize the accompanying photomontage from the movie-Clockers. So many young people losing there life over senseless things. The song is beautiful-wished I had heard it separate from the movie.
Verse 1: There is a place that is so hard to find Behind the walls we build inside our minds Some break the walls, some break the rules, some even get things changed And when they do, that leads to truth Their questions still remain But all that it's sayin' Chorus: Somewhere in life there's a joy to be Between the hope and reality There in a mirror and then the street That's where you'll find People in search of a life
Verse 2: And what of love, is that a point of view? And when you're alone, it can seem so confused That's when a friend can pull you in, bring you a helping hand But what happens when your only friend sells you out in the end How do you face it? Chorus x 1 Beyond the sheets of skin, beyond the rules of hate Within the project walls There is a cry that will not die A cry for life Life Chorus x 2
Outro: In search of a life Oh, tell me about people In search of a life Oh people, people Looking for a life Searching, looking in a bottle Lookin' in a needle Lookin' in the street Searchin' everywhere THERE YA'LL GO, ENJOY!

This is an excellent track, brother. Real nice, smooth groove. To me, it has a late 70s- early 80s "Stevie Wonder" kind of feel to it. Real music, my man....Peace
I love this song. At first I did not get the message directed at me in the song- I got the general message. This is my all time favourite song I love it. I found what I've been looking fort and now that I have found it I'll never give it up- I'll hold on to it. I hope and pray that we all can find what we are searching for. Thank you Marc Dorsey for this inspiring message.
@L365YQ HAHAHA!!! In a time where popular music = throwaway junk!?!?! One of my favorite songs ever!! The songs played on the radio don't reflect such great talents in the music industry like Marc Dorsey. Maybe radio stations believe that young people don't like soulful R&B songs. But, I'm 18 years old and I know other teens that don't just listen to pop and rap songs. This is an amazing song and hopefully, the radio will play more songs like this in the future.

The Best..flawless. The closest you are going to get to the essence & vocal brilliance of Donny, the range & tonality of Stevie while being himself. Frank McComb is often mentioned as sounding like Donny & he is cool too, but Marc is the best. Ray Jones' writing & production are stellar as well.

Marc Dorsey's voice reminds me of Donny Hathaway especially in the song People Make the World Go Round.
