  • I have this song on repeat often and also share it with friends on FB

  • As the composer/producer of this piece, its very heartening to read all of your kind words. When this came out, I tried to get it considered for an NAACP award as well as for the Academy Award (this was years b4 3-6 Mafia LOL).

Needless to say those things didn't happen. But I knew the work was honest and over time would reach people. Thank you for receiving it.

  • @UndergroundJazzA

yeah, i know what you mean.

  • @IAMtheNewWorldOrder same here

  • @IAMtheNewWorldOrder Yeah, it's a powerful intro.....I always thought it was sadder than fuck.....

  • @IAMtheNewWorldOrder was that a good impression or a bad impression??

  • @IAMtheNewWorldOrder I thought that part was rather somber and disturbing and the music added to it gave it a rather interesting flare.

  • Producer composer Raymond Jones was keyboards of legendary group CHIC and the CHIC Organization (Le Freak, Good Times, We are family, Upside down,...)

  • i always thought this was stevie wonder...marc has an exceptional voice!

  • THE BLUES! BEAUTIFUL!

  • nvm I know who sampled it

Loki - Me and My Backpack

  • Didn't somebody sample this.. If you know can you tell me who it is..

    Can't think right now

  • This song makes me cry, he sounds exactly like stevie wonder

  • @Dubbiejay Word.

  • this is the MOVIE and the best track to go along with it...I love me some Spike Lee!

  • Im from Slovenia.

I wanna go to New York badly.

    I love Brooklyn!

One day I'll go there and walk around BK listening to this music. (I know its a sad song)

I love the Clockers, intro is crazy although its sad to watch it!

    shoutouts to Brooklyn!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Hi

I've been looking that track everywhere !!! and i mean it!!!

where did you get it from, is there a posibility to download it? Pleaaaaase help

  • I love how Spike Lee uses this song as background to the images in the opening titles. Hypnotic

  • yes iagree very heart felt how us young african american males loss our lives over countless things in life.

  • WAS THOSE PICS IN THE BEGINNING REAL??

  • the picturers used were taken from NYPD crimes investigations murder squad unit (dated from 1992-1993).all murders in the files they used were unsolved to date due to lack of evidence case closed. people complained at the time about the begining but it got promission to use the pictures from the NYPD in the hope of making young black people think about there actions.very sad how these young black people are getting murdered at an alarming rate up to date in these areas and knowones even noticing

  • thank u so much

  • no problem glad i helped, increase the peace on the NYC streets

  • you make it seem as if somebody else is doing it to them; they're doing it to each other. I'm all about reaching out and making information known but I don't like how some people portray urban violence as if somebody else is doing it to them.

  • yes, those were actual NYPD crime scene photos.

  • thank u, omg i did'nt know that

  • good flick, tight music, 5/5*

  • I remember the first time I heard this song, sitting in the cinema watching Clockers back in '94 or '95. I was completely mesmerised by it and actually thought it was Stevie singing it before seeing it was Marc Dorsey when the credits rolled.

I bought the soundtrack a couple of days after seeing the movie 'cause I just had to have this one song. The Chaka Khan track on it "Love Me Still" is fantastic also.

  • @kenyancheena- Marc sounds a lot like Stevie... I remember sitting in the theater too like "Wow, Stevie's singing is really subdued" But saw the end credits and saw it was him... Marc's a great singer nonetheless

  • @kenyancheena Yeah right!!! I was convinced for over a decade that this was Stevie Wonder!! Had the film on video, but never thought to check the end credits. I was mainly into Hiphop and was really chuffed to hear the Crooklyn Part 2 choon, coz that was one of many faves that had been bouncing about long before I'd even heard of Clockers, Jeru, Masta Ace n Chubb Rock hit with loads of classicks back then!!! Was really surprised to find it weren't Stevie Wonder!! Ah well, live n learn!!

  • The movie is a classic. This is one of the best sounds I have ever heard from a movie.

  • This song is dedicated to those who lost their lives in these following situations:

    1. Gang violence / Drug violence.

    2. The Civil Rights movement.

    3. Recent Natural Disasters (Hurricane Katrina).

    4. WAR.

    5. Oklahoma City Bombings.

    6. 9-11-2001 Attack on the United States.

    7. Missing In Action and unaccounted for (children, solders, gang members, etc).

    8. Recent police abuse.

  • dedicated by whom???

  • Yours, truly!!! AmmoShockTroop!!!!

  • For those 16 to 21 who stop by here. Brothers & Sisters dont rush to be an adult. Let time gradually take you there. Trust me....With age come wisdom i hope you can make it to actually see that what i am saying is : True ! Daps from Miami ! 1 love ya

  • mblizzle09, thanks so much for the lyrics !!!

This song I so beautiful, I remember that I bough the soundtrack straight after have seen the movie.

Check out the cats, Marc Dorsey singing, Branford Marsalis, Kenny "The Doctone" Kirkland, Bob Hurst, Jeff "Tain" Watts, the strings on this song are beautiful to cry, respect.

  • The sadness associated with this song is profound. Everytime I hear this song I visualize the accompanying photomontage from the movie-Clockers. So many young people losing there life over senseless things. The song is beautiful-wished I had heard it separate from the movie.

  • Had in 1995 I think my friend used it and I never got it back!!!! I was 14/15 when this came out. The 90's my years to look back on one love

  • lyrics anyone???? PLEASE!!! Beautiful song, but there are lyrics i can't understand, google can't help me, can anyone here>?????

  • Such a sad song.People's lives are so bad, they search 4 comfort in alcohol, drugs, the streets, etc.God please help us! This song is so true.

  • I love Marc Dorsey for makin this song.

  • may lines i cant understand in this song, cant find the lyrics, anyone know where i can find them or can someone email them to me?

  • Verse 1: There is a place that is so hard to find Behind the walls we build inside our minds Some break the walls, some break the rules, some even get things changed And when they do, that leads to truth Their questions still remain But all that it's sayin' Chorus: Somewhere in life there's a joy to be Between the hope and reality There in a mirror and then the street That's where you'll find People in search of a life
  • Verse 2: And what of love, is that a point of view? And when you're alone, it can seem so confused That's when a friend can pull you in, bring you a helping hand But what happens when your only friend sells you out in the end How do you face it? Chorus x 1 Beyond the sheets of skin, beyond the rules of hate Within the project walls There is a cry that will not die A cry for life Life Chorus x 2
  • Outro: In search of a life Oh, tell me about people In search of a life Oh people, people Looking for a life Searching, looking in a bottle Lookin' in a needle Lookin' in the street Searchin' everywhere THERE YA'LL GO, ENJOY!
  • I heard this song in the film " Clockers" by Spike Lee. Beautiful Song ! Great Film !!!

  • I was 12 years old when i heard this song on the radio. Beautiful Song!

  • man, i always get sentimental every time i listen to this, 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • angels can sing...blessed.. BP rise up!

  • THE GHETTO IS TUFF....JESUS KNOWS

  • I CRIED THE 1ST TIME I HEARD THIS.

  • @classy1973 I cried too.

It's one of the most touching songs I ever heard.

  • this movie is the best...its so new york i love it i love this movie man i might b a 16 yr.old girl but i love the music and this movie period....NY STAND UP...LOL..-SHAE

  • i agree with, but the book , written in a fictional new jersey town, is AMAZING, but spike made it new york without changing the book, a true tribute to Richard Price (the author) and to Spike (the filmaker)

  • great track, great movie..

  • This is an excellent track, brother. Real nice, smooth groove. To me, it has a late 70s- early 80s "Stevie Wonder" kind of feel to it. Real music, my man....Peace

  • I tried to write down the lyrics, but didn´t quite succeed in it so...could some friendly person do it for me?!? :) I would be ever-grateful.

  • This was the song from "Clockers", very soft song, and very good kind of music right there, five stars for this song from Marc D.

  • I love this song. At first I did not get the message directed at me in the song- I got the general message. This is my all time favourite song I love it. I found what I've been looking fort and now that I have found it I'll never give it up- I'll hold on to it. I hope and pray that we all can find what we are searching for. Thank you Marc Dorsey for this inspiring message.

  • Love this track! Great movie too,how come dorsey didnt get so popular?

  • @L365YQ HAHAHA!!! In a time where popular music = throwaway junk!?!?! I know what you're saying L365YQ, but in that way, especially the way the music industry is, there's no way this would've reached coz it's far too good to be thrown into the crappy Top 40!! Quality choons for quality tastes!!! Real gold you've gotta dig for or discover!!! Still it is a shame, the real gold should get their money's worth!!

  • The lyrical content in this song, is actually saying something RELATIVE. Marc Dorsey's silky smooth voice, clocks it just right!

  • One of my all-time favorite songs. The montage that this accompanies in Clockers is powerful to say the least.

  • One of my favorite songs ever!! The songs played on the radio don't reflect such great talents in the music industry like Marc Dorsey. Maybe radio stations believe that young people don't like soulful R&B songs. But, I'm 18 years old and I know other teens that don't just listen to pop and rap songs. This is an amazing song and hopefully, the radio will play more songs like this in the future.

  • True. Im only 18 too and this is one of my favorite songs. I AGREE 100%

  • Comment removed

  • dig that

  • His voice is flowing..

  • Marc my homie, used to stay at my spot in Harlem, they kept tryinta make him Johnny Gill or something. His gift was effortless, anotha cat the industry denied us from getting to know with their marketing geniuses. I think I gotta clip of a show we worked on on my page...R&B Live!NY we was tryinta get it on ClearChannel TVONE...

  • Having this beautiful song as a backdrop to the opening credits to Clockers was haunting. Brilliant!

  • The Best..flawless. The closest you are going to get to the essence & vocal brilliance of Donny, the range & tonality of Stevie while being himself. Frank McComb is often mentioned as sounding like Donny & he is cool too, but Marc is the best. Ray Jones' writing & production are stellar as well.

Marc! its time to make another record of this quality.

  • This is the kind of music that need to seriously come back to the mainstream. The crap that is on the radio isn't even worth listening to anymore

  • Strolling by... caught your comments and I totally agree. Hate mainstream radio had to activate the XM Radio in the Tahoe.

  • @TLDavis1230

    You're totally right !!!

  • This tune and Philip Bailey´s "Children of the Ghetto" are my favourite joints in Clockers....but in opposite to Bailey it´s not possible to get it on vinyl!

Or did anyone know more then me???

    Off The Hook!!

  • anyone tell me where to get these lyrics, can't find them anywhere.

    any help is appreciated.

  • Aww man, memories...this is my favorite song from Clockers, which was an underrated movie in my opinion. I guess it was too much for the critics, but that's how it was in NYC back then so Spike Lee was just shedding some light on reality. Both the song and the movie are timeless.

  • I agree. This is a great film that got no recognition...just like all of Spike's films.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah his voice reminds me of both Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder.

  • OMG! I agree!

  • Check out my Our World video!!.

  • This song is 13 years old and still has revelance. Spike's soundtracks were always in tune with the pulse of issues facing Americans (Black, White, etc.) in the struggle known as "SURVIVAL"!

  • we're all people in search of life.

  • Wonderfully...bittersweet

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • makes me remember who I AM. Where R Y Marc ?

  • I like this song but it's kinda sad 2 me.

  • Can I still get this? I just love this tune and have done from the moment I first heard it and it never ceases to get old

  • So beautiful,soulful...a song from the heart. Only people who have been there know what this song is about....

  • THE BEST CLOCKERS SONG!!!

  • Awesome song to go with an awesome movie!!!!!

  • Marc Dorsey's voice reminds me of Donny Hathaway especially in the song People Make the World Go Round.

  • can anyone tell me where to find these lyrics.

    appreciate it, thanks!!

  • This track is sooo REAL! And the film will never leave my house.. CLASSIC! Spike lee needs to make a next film.. "Do the right thing" Classic aswell

  • just watched clockers on t.v the other week. Great film with a great soundtrack and score by terence blanchard. if anyone has his music for the film put it on here please. good to see this tune on here though.

  • a marc dorsey classic!

  • Great song great movie, I made Czech (small phuckin country in tha heart of europe) version of subtitles, was a hard work, man :)

  • thanks for the song, i love it very much. Wish i had it's lyrics.

  • ...people in search of a life...

    poignant to say the least.

  • How real is this..

  • MARC DORSEY GOT THIS OFF! GREAT SONG!

  • This is great song!!

    And great movie also.
