I think everybody should lay off of Adam... he's talented, he has his own voice and he sings his father's songs with passion. There aren't any rules to what he is supposed to do!
@JohnCorriganMusic I agree and to sing some of his father's songs is a tribute to Leonard, how proud Leonard must be to watch and listen to his own flesh and blood sing his songs with such gusto, carry on Adam Cohen,
such a difference it is unbelievable. he has the talent, just follow your fathers footsteps more closely. unfortunately what presides this is not easy. the voice is most certainly there.
It is extremely tough to stand against two legends at once... his father, and this song. Even though we got used to philosophical though passionate personality of Leonard's poetry, Adam is presenting same passion and need of expression, even though he found quite different style of music for himself. I am sure we will hear more of him. Perhaps when listening to him we try to hear his father? I know how tough it is for my son to stay on his own path so I vote for Adam 2 thumbs up!
@videofan006 It's terrible. While i agree entirely with your point of his "need for expression", which he definitely has, i think he conveys this with utter incredibility. He should find another medium for himself, for he is inspired. But this is, in my opinion, a misinterpretation of the song. It wasn't meant to be sung like some kind of heart-breaky explosion of emotions. It is impossible for anyone to live up to Leonard Cohen, if you HAVE to cover his songs, do it in a more sober way.
Very difficult when you are immersed in his father's style and voice, but I feel I need to remain open to other versions, .....this has a less folksy sound, and less romance but a whole lot of passion.I feel Adam is going somewhere with Low Millions. I have just heard Niki Dont Stop...try it!!There's a real sizzler.
As I said, Adam Cohen writes some of the most beautiful songs, that people just don't know he writes. He is dreamy and poetic like his father. Many people do covers of Leonard Cohen's work, many Adam is just honouring him in his own way. I'm sure it must touch the elder Cohen to his bones to hear his only son sing his tunes.
Yup, he has got to do his own thing, he will be as has been before he ever comes up with something original. I hope he does, his father came to it through pain, anger, depression, etc.... Like a god Scotch, he needs another 30 years of life.
The more I listen to this version the better I like it. Adam gives it a gut wrenching, unrequited love feeling. Leonard gives it a more tender, sweet/sadness. It may have something to do with their ages. Adam's version is a young man devasted by love lost, perhaps for the first time. Leonard's version is that of an old man with no regrets looking back on a failed love with sweet sorrow.
He has a beautiful voice. My only criticism would be that he is a little too dramatic in his pronounciations. Takes away from the song a bit. I think Adam has great potential, just needs to 'tone it down' a bit..
It takes a few listens to get this one. Adam and his father have such different styles it's unfair to compare them. I can't say I dislike this version, but I definitely prefer the Sr's version.
I think Adam should sing his own songs and should break away from the music of his father. Go your own way! You can!

I am sorry but the voice from his father is deep and touches your soul...
I think he can better sing his own songs, he has a great voice but not for his fathers songs... That's my opinion...
Blessed be;Althea

Don't like it. Too ornamental and a too much pathos. The lightness of the walz is lost and so is the lightness of the message of the original song.

I love (LOVE) Leonard Cohen. I love him singing his own songs. That said - the emotion in Adam's voice in this version broke my heart. Amazing.
