Can I make this the night before and refrigerate it to eat the next day? How long will it stay "fresh" before it goes bad? I can find the ham in Korean stores, right? Because I've looked for it in the Korean supermarkets here and only find the one's in the can (like Spam) and they're tiny... :/
I will not go bad for several days..but the rice becomes hard in the refrigerator and taste not that great then.. so I don't keep my kimbap more than a day.. it tastes best right after you make them. :) You can use normal American ham .. hotdog.. or spam also..
Thank you for sharing how to make kimbap. Your english is not bad. I will make this dish for sure. Other than food prep, it looks simple to put together. Btw, can you make bibimkooksoo please? I love bibimkooksoo in the summertime. Thanks again for sharing...
How long does this usually take you to make?? and how much do you think it would cost to buy the bamboo sheet and the seaweed??Thanks for the video!!^-^
I really like this recipe!!! I think what people do not understand is that everyone some how or some way makes kimbap or sushi differently so fighting over a recipe that has so many different ways in all of Asia it is ignorant to argue. They are all good just pop one in your mouth and go on with your day!
It should be short grain rice... (or called sushi rice too..) If it's long .. pluffy rice.. the rice will not stick together..and will come out.. or fall apart when you roll or cut the kimbap..
Maybe you can fry some kind of mushroom you like.. how about.. shitake mushroom ?? (usually mushroom has lots of liquid in it when you cook.. ) .. so soak the shitake mushroom in water..and squeeze out the water..and finely chop..and marinate withe the sauce i used for the beef..and fry the mushroom and use like the meat filling.. ^^
Haa-ha, I came in here for just the recipe, but am enjoying all the comments, too. It's sad that we Asians fight so much. Pakistan-India-Bangladesh is always at war. China-Taiwan-Korea-Japan with historical tensions. Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam learning from war. The winner are White people, like U.S., which have army bases all over Asia. US enjoys us fighting so it can control us and our resources. Stop fighting. Stand together and get rid of Yankee Army from Asian soil.

I appreciate Aeri making her videos she is kind and very sweet and we should be privileged that she is taking the time to make videos and teach us on how to make amazing food. = )

Although the true origins of the term, gim are unclear, there are records dating from the 17th century of Kim Yeo-Ik cultivating gim. There is a monument in Taeindong, Gwangyang set up in his honor for these achievements.
There are many legends about the etymology of the word gim. One version explains that an old lady in the region of Hadong discovered a log covered in gim floating down the Seomjin River, which inspired her to cultivate gim on upright bamboo support poles. Another legend says that the word "gim" was named after its creator, Kim Yeo-Ik, who lived in the island Taeindo during the reign of King Injo, who was the first person to have cultivated gim after seeing a drifting oak branch covered in it.
From the mid-Joseon period there are records of gim in 15th century documents Gyeongsangdo Jiriji (hangul:경상도지리지, hanja: 慶尙道地理誌) and Sinjeung Donggukyeojiseungram (hangul:신증동국여지승람, hanja:新增東國輿地勝覽). "Gim" is recorded as a regional delicacy.
History: The earliest mention of gim is recorded in the Samgukyoosa (hangul:삼국유사, hanja:三國遺事) a document created during the Goryeo era documenting the history of the Three Kingdoms Period of Korean history covering 57 BCE to 668. The Samgukyoosa contains passages that record gim having been used as far back as the Shilla dynasty. It is conjectured that gim collected on rocks and drift were collected and eaten even before the Shilla period.
@khs8764 hi,from your comments i checked 「海衣」in 三國遺事.
Samgukyoosa was written by priest Il-yeon 一然 in 1270-1280,then described the part of the Three Kingdoms Period 三韓時代 was just fantasy tale.

@khs8764 then in Silla kingdom lost sun and moon. the eighth king Adatura 阿達羅王 send his envoy and ask to back them. however Yonoran rejected "I came to this country for heaven, why should i back." brought back the thin silk woven by my wife and enshrine to heaven, the , the light will be able to recover"
there is written as "藻",so what it was just sea grass not dried laver seaweed 海苔. you should learn and read Chinese character, then put historical comments...poor boy...
Gim (food) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Gim (food) Roasted gim Korean name
Revised Romanization (gim) McCune–Reischauer kim
Gim (김), also spelled as kim,[1] is the Korean-word for edible seaweed in the genus Porphyra. In Welsh this food is called laver. The Korean version is usually salted, unlike the nori of Japanese cuisine.
Hey, fucking Jap trolls! Just shut up! Do you guys know that a laver (kim) was moved from Korea to Japan? Your food culture is just to eat raw fishes, and others many things are just copied things from other nations. Don't write your poor jap language at here. This is just a video to explain how to make 'Korean food: Kimbap'.
Dear, aeriskitchen! Don't be upset about angry comments. U should know, that somewere in cold Russia one girl did KIMBAP for her family, foollowing your instructions, and everyone liked it!!!! :*:*:*:*:*:*:*)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Oh.. thank you very much. I tried not to involve in negative comments... but I hope that people stop fighting about kimbap and sushi. I'm glad to hear that her family liked it. ^^
And for those who are really curious or pure rude, from wiki: Kimbap is derived from Japanese futomaki (Makizushi) during the Japanese rule (1910-1945).
Kimbap is Korean food. When you say, it is a Japanese food. You have exactly same food with kimbap in Japan ? same ingredients..same flavor ?? how about pizza, icecream, bread? only country who made that food first can say, it's their food ? Please stop. I don't know who started this type of food first, either it was japanese sushi.. or korean kimbap. but kimbap is not same food with sushi. so That's why it's Korean food that Koreans make not Japanese. We know sushi is Japanese food in Korea.

@aeriskitchen I agree. If we really wanna get technical, Chinese is the first to make pasta not the Italians although the Italians got all kinds of names for the different shapes of pasta (linguine, spaghetti, orzo, etc.) Marco Polo went to China and brought Pasta back to his neck of the woods. Now everybody actually believe Italians started pasta. People need to stop arguing about absolutely nothing , it makes most video makers want to "disable" commenting.
@icareforyouforever ur probably some idiot american foodie who thinks he knows everything well im here to tell u shut fuck cus ur a dumbass who knows nothing korea didn't steal anything gimbap was derived from japanese culture when japan controlled korea it maybe similar but its not the same just like how indian curry is not the same as thai curry or sri lankan curry next time think before u open ur mouth u dumb shit for brains
@buonaparte11 If you knew your history right, you'd know that Japan occupied Korea for many years and forced the Koreans to live their lives like Japanese. Of course the Asian countries will have dishes similar. It's not about stealing - it's about history. When you claim that South Korea 'stole' Japanese culture, you're being EXTREMELY offensive to their history. So shut the hell up.. and if you'd bother check out the Korean culture and history before talking shit, you'd know better.
@NanxCakes you insult each asian people and farmers. to be racists or race discrimination that is from to abandon the effort to study or take knowledge, you should improve understanding. i think not Asian people just look our food as same on surface, but the foods have each history under the climate or weather.
@NanxCakes according to the amalgamated age,i am studying korean so-called japanese imperial forced crimes, writing the articles on my blog.pls check. anyway at first korean pretended Chinese and changed their names in Goryeo from 912. next they wanted japanese traditional name. i think japanese government is stupid every times to take mistaking policies to confer favors to korean.
@sakura0jp0aikidodesu I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.. I'm a Korean Studies student, so I'm not just talking out of my ass. At least I got facts behind my words. I don't think that I'm insulting anyone (except for the guy I replied to, I hope). What IS offensive is claiming that South Koreans 'copied' or 'stole' Japanese culture when in fact the culture was forced upon them.
@NanxCakes you wrote that "Asian food looks similar",but each foods have history and the effort to arrange against sitotoxism.they are treasures handed down from our ancestors. i guess that some korean have same idea like you, then they don't know that almost sold strawberry in korea has been stolen from japan. korean stole the seed, they reject to pay the patent fee. the korean pretense was that "because the seed of strawberry is japanese!!"
@NanxCakes long time ago,i was a elementary school student, my mother let took me the handmade Obento lunch box for school picnic. but she took a cold, then she forgot to mix rice vinegar and sake for makizushi rolling sushi with seaweed. then the cucumber was spoil..my sadly memory.
@sakura0jp0aikidodesu Yes, but a lot of asian food DOES look similar. I'm not saying that Asian food IS the same. I'm just saying that a lot of it looks similar. That's it. If you take offense to that, then that sucks for you. If you have anything further, please take it to the inbox. This is just ridiculous.
@NanxCakes thank you for your reply,i am sorry for my mistaken. i wonder that korean samsung galaxy is similar with iphone. why yanban;korean noble swing japanese sword in korean history drama? why Kyuktooki is similar with Thailand muetai?? ok,i don't have knowledge of EU or N Europe, then i think Denmark looks similar with Spain or Russia.
@NanxCakes i don't like to write anymore, but i have to explain you the problem.pls watch the movies, i had not been interested the problem of cultural friction, at last i noticed it on Japan expo.
Endangered Japan: A Small Survey on the Conflict between Japan and Korea
/watch?v=FaOCQ9AQyP0
全ての日本文化は韓国起源ニダ ALL JAPANESE CULTURE ARE BELONG TO US
@NanxCakes korean kimbap use sesame oil, then kimbap is easily perishable. many people eat kimbap and take food poisoning on summer of every years. increasing bacteria tenth times after one hour. then some korean shop use rice vinegar and sake for disinfect. i have eaten it, its entirety japanese maikizushi....
@NanxCakes but korean foods are very delicious i love them, Mrs.aeriskitchen has many talent for cooking then she should arrange the lack of korean food and spread the knowledge. for example, try to add some Citrus junos or mint to be acidity or bacterial killing.
@NanxCakes seach in youtube 「Endangered Japan: A Small Survey on the Conflict between Japan and Korea」 I will be glad if your honest comment are able to be heard.
@photopicture it is called kimbap then let it be. can't you respect their culture? it might be that the koreans are influenced by the japanese. Just like how vietnamese and japanese are influenced by the chinese culture.
they ate Kaoliang only. so what korean could not cook any TteokBokkI and Kimba only 100 years before.they made only white Kimchi with Chinese leaves not bulbous, the bulbous had been introduced from Qing to japan on Tokyo exhibition in 1875 ,then japan improved the seedling and introduced to korea.you don't know the unpropitious history, korean are still stealing strawberry seeding not to pay the japanese right of trademark.
however actually plundered the lands and lives the victims were japanese farmer after WW2,they immigrated to korea legally, most of them were from Tohoku North East district where is very cold, then they taught how to make sticky rice to korea. only before 100 years, korean could harvested only dry land rice, they couldn't make sticky rice. till japanese farmers introduced cold-adapted rice in korea, almost korean could eat rice.
i think the root of the problem points the difference both japanese and korean's attitude toward to the history.korean always says that “36 years of Imperial Japanese rule” brought on the “seven deprivations” (king, sovereignty, human life, land, resources, language and personal name).
OMGGGGGGGGGG they look so yummy I wish I was Korean ahhhh :D thank you so much for your video I've been wanting to make some for a long time :) it looks kinda easy to make ... I will definitely try soonnnn;)
I just checked it again. You mean.. for rice..right ?? yes..it's 1 tsp of salt in the ingredients list..and I said 1 tsp of salt..and half tbsp of sesame seeds.. so it's right.. maybe my English pronunciation made you confuse..
I got why you confused.. in the ingredients list.. the 1 tsp of salt is for rice..not for cucumber.. and I didn't list the salt for cucumber.. and that's what you heard.. I said.. 1 tsp of salt for rice..and 1 and half tsp of sea salt for cucumber... so my ingredient list and video match.. and you can use both salt and sea salt.. thanks
These look delicious! But it's a lot easier to actually use the sushi mat when you are rolling the sushi. And instead of using rice to stick the end seaweed, use a little water. It makes the kimbap neater. :) keep making videos - they are good. :D
your cooking ALWAYS makes me hungry at the same time helping me know more Korean Foods .... Ugh .. I wish I could make a request but I don't know any Korean Foods you still haven't made ... haha ... best wishes !! * PS : you look pretty in this video * * PS : I'm a girl *
hi! i just wanted to say that i loved your video and i saw it eating kimbap. i always go to korean markets and in my favorite one there's an old lady that makes kimbap like crazy. thank you for the tutorial ill try it at home :D
No country ever started on a specific date. People use the date of the first recording of the country's history for the "(country) originated in (year)". So technically, all countries are the same age. The first record of Korean history was in 2,333 BC.
may i know what type of rice are you using? I am living in UK. I used to study in Korea before but I remember made the kimbap only twice while living there... Thanks!
Korea Japan and China all share a few aspects of their individual cultures, it's no surprise there are similarities here and there. No one really knows the facts as to who "invented" what. Chill
I don't know how long the history of Korean is. However, if you say to people all over the world that Korea has a history of 5,000 years, they will laugh.
@Youcantsay15yen50sen Ahhh :l But still, arguing over something like this isn't going to claim recipes/dishes as theirs, it's pointless. We all know who really invented what in our minds anyways ;)
Anyway, I will make the video named "Japanese food: KimUchi (キムチ)" next year. If I do that, you Koreans will know the feeling of Japanese people. Stay tuned! =D
Ummmm, no! The hanbok is derived from an ancient Chinese clothing called the Hanfu. The Kimono is also derived from the Hanfu. And kimchi is not Japanese, the only contribute the Japanese had on kimchi was introducing the red chili pepper to Korea from the Americas. Kimchi was made with various vegtables long before that and has roots in China. In fact almost all east asian history has influences from China.
@Nadeshiko637 ....... are you fucking retarded? kimchi is not japanese. It originated from korea thousands of years ago. I don't know where you get our information but please be careful next time as you sound like a dumbass
OKAY Koreans and Japanese needs to STOP fighting. just because kimbap is similar to japanese rolls doesnt means its the same god damn thing. Its like Chinese people going around telling EVERYONE who uses noodles copy cats because they invented noodles. get over it.
@10382913 Yes thats right kimchi is Korean, not Japanese, Japanese dont even like spicy food usually. But saying Korea is not interested in Japan is false, I live in Japan&the 2main immigrants living here are Koreans&Chinese, if they weren`t interested in Japan why would they be living in Japan? Lots of Korean tourists come here, usually tourist places provide Korean language. Also lots of kpop artists are singing in Japan, NHK New Years program I watched it & saw alot of kpop artists

The Korean culture does not have anything that is accepted in the world.
Therefore, they always steal the culture of Japan or China and tell a lie, saying, "This is the Korean culture!"
buonaparte11 3 weeks ago
@buonaparte11 If you knew your history right, you'd know that Japan occupied Korea for many years and forced the Koreans to live their lives like Japanese. Of course the Asian countries will have dishes similar. It's not about stealing - it's about history. When you claim that South Korea 'stole' Japanese culture, you're being EXTREMELY offensive to their history. So shut the hell up.. and if you'd bother check out the Korean culture and history before talking shit, you'd know better.
NanxCakes 2 weeks ago
@NanxCakes you insult each asian people and farmers. to be racists or race discrimination that is from to abandon the effort to study or take knowledge, you should improve understanding. i think not Asian people just look our food as same on surface, but the foods have each history under the climate or weather.
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 2 weeks ago
@NanxCakes according to the amalgamated age,i am studying korean so-called japanese imperial forced crimes, writing the articles on my blog.pls check. anyway at first korean pretended Chinese and changed their names in Goryeo from 912. next they wanted japanese traditional name. i think japanese government is stupid every times to take mistaking policies to confer favors to korean.
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 2 weeks ago
@sakura0jp0aikidodesu I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.. I'm a Korean Studies student, so I'm not just talking out of my ass. At least I got facts behind my words. I don't think that I'm insulting anyone (except for the guy I replied to, I hope). What IS offensive is claiming that South Koreans 'copied' or 'stole' Japanese culture when in fact the culture was forced upon them.
NanxCakes 2 weeks ago
@NanxCakes you wrote that "Asian food looks similar",but each foods have history and the effort to arrange against sitotoxism.they are treasures handed down from our ancestors. i guess that some korean have same idea like you, then they don't know that almost sold strawberry in korea has been stolen from japan. korean stole the seed, they reject to pay the patent fee. the korean pretense was that "because the seed of strawberry is japanese!!"
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 2 weeks ago
@NanxCakes long time ago,i was a elementary school student, my mother let took me the handmade Obento lunch box for school picnic. but she took a cold, then she forgot to mix rice vinegar and sake for makizushi rolling sushi with seaweed. then the cucumber was spoil..my sadly memory.
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 2 weeks ago
@sakura0jp0aikidodesu Yes, but a lot of asian food DOES look similar. I'm not saying that Asian food IS the same. I'm just saying that a lot of it looks similar. That's it. If you take offense to that, then that sucks for you. If you have anything further, please take it to the inbox. This is just ridiculous.
NanxCakes 2 weeks ago
@NanxCakes thank you for your reply,i am sorry for my mistaken. i wonder that korean samsung galaxy is similar with iphone. why yanban;korean noble swing japanese sword in korean history drama? why Kyuktooki is similar with Thailand muetai?? ok,i don't have knowledge of EU or N Europe, then i think Denmark looks similar with Spain or Russia.

Hi. I know kimbop is korean style norimaki.
Norimaki is sushi-roll (a kind of sushi), one of Japanese traditional food.
by the way, Why had the name changed to kimbop from norimaki? In Japan, Pizza, it's just called pizza. Similarly, hamburger and curry and kimchi...
Why had the name changed?

they ate Kaoliang only. so what korean could not cook any TteokBokkI and Kimba only 100 years before.they made only white Kimchi with Chinese leaves not bulbous, the bulbous had been introduced from Qing to japan on Tokyo exhibition in 1875 ,then japan improved the seedling and introduced to korea.you don't know the unpropitious history, korean are still stealing strawberry seeding not to pay the japanese right of trademark.
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 3 weeks ago
however actually plundered the lands and lives the victims were japanese farmer after WW2,they immigrated to korea legally, most of them were from Tohoku North East district where is very cold, then they taught how to make sticky rice to korea. only before 100 years, korean could harvested only dry land rice, they couldn't make sticky rice. till japanese farmers introduced cold-adapted rice in korea, almost korean could eat rice.
sakura0jp0aikidodesu 3 weeks ago
i think the root of the problem points the difference both japanese and korean's attitude toward to the history.korean always says that “36 years of Imperial Japanese rule” brought on the “seven deprivations” (king, sovereignty, human life, land, resources, language and personal name).

I got why you confused.. in the ingredients list.. the 1 tsp of salt is for rice..not for cucumber.. and I didn't list the salt for cucumber.. and that's what you heard.. No country ever started on a specific date. People use the date of the first recording of the country's history for the "(country) originated in (year)". So technically, all countries are the same age. The first record of Korean history was in 2,333 BC.

Kimchi and Hanbok are all originated in Japan :D
Nadeshiko637 1 month ago
@Nadeshiko637
