@MelancholyApples it's in Rhode Island, USA. It's an Ivy-League, it's hard to get in unless you're a straight A student, and have a solid extracurricular activities background. Considering how the education is in the UK, I'm not surprised she got in.

@MelancholyApples There are a lot of factors that are used in an admissions process. I.e. some people can get into ivy leagues schools just with their essay, even if they have a 3.8. Harvard excepts 7% of their applicants, & most are 10-15% top of their class. Even then some do not get in. You could get into Harvard (Brown too) with a 3.0 if you've shown the admissions office you're meant for that school. Someone got into Harvard with just an essay, another was almost a 5.0 gpa student & didn't.

@90morena So if you don't think your transcript is good enough, the essay shows em who you are. My friend knew someone who applied to Harvard, the essay question was "What is courage" and the guy wrote "This is courage" nothing more. He got in, granted if someone writes that in their application to Harvard, Harvard isn't going to accept em, it's a one time thing. I really recommend to do your best, if you graduate from Harvard you graduate debt-free.

Essays are supposed to show em who you are, but personally I think it's just meant to be written well; show em you have some common sense and know about the real world.
