Saw this group in Culver City at Jazz Bakery; completely changed my view of this guy. I always liked him, but he became one of my faves afterward, ridiculous what he can do on his horn! And the group works very well with his style.
Oh this song!! Los Cronopios! I remember, I was about six or seven years old when my dad bought me his album "Street Scenes", it was still a new album. This song and Street Scenes were my favorite tunes of all!
yo lo escuche ya hace unos añosen sevilla junto a miguel zenot y una banda con ritmos muy latinos, estupendo el concierto pusieron la gente de pie.varias veces, hubo untema larguisimo con muchisima percusiones grande este david.
I had the pleasure of having John Benitez in one of my old concerts... He was such a humble man. I am so, so humbled to see that an extraordinarily gifted musician is humble enough to compliment a scrub like me :(
David, no se parece a nadie , ni coltrane ,ni groover , ni nadie , lo primero es que su musica pone sus raices al frente ...y sobre sus raices , el crea cada pieza.if you want to know his music better, study our puertorrican rithms and then add , what he wants to sing with his sax. at this moment his incredible dicipline , develops maturitya and an angelic sound and Dinamica... there he is ...he has the grace of God.Clave!!!
@cuca1962 I agree with what you have said, but to clarify coming out of a Puerto Rican like myself... there is no such thing as puerto rican rhythm... it's afro-cuban latin rhythms. that's where that originated. If you want to talk about puerto rican rhythms... let's talk about the crap being played on the hispanic radio stations....reggeaton.
Are you kidding me?!!!! What the hell's the matter with you, man? David Sanchez is one of the best players in our Era (just like Miguel Zenon, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter...) He's nothing like Coltrane; he has his own sound, unique, much more different than Trane's. Oh! And he has much more latin flavor than Coltrane, LOL.
i typed in david sanchez and this is what came up.( david sanchez)

David is actually more inspired by Sonny Rollins than Coltrane.

this song in particular is a tribute to Trane, but other than that, he is his own player with his own sound and style. He's a great sax player!

no way David maybe inspired by Coltrane but he is no where near boring!
