Look at the inlets and outlets of the carbs for restrictors (the part, that reduces the cross section) - the inlets from the airbox too - for sure. Check the slides in the carbs, they must be able to move fully to the upper position. Check the needles and jets for part numbers, if they match with the part numbers in original parts catalog for 45kW version. Restrictors can be dismounted, mismatched parts replaced and the slides modified or replaced too.
Cheaper and easier is to buy used standard 45kW version carburettors.
After all that you must set the carbs. The factory setting can be done in the garrage at home and it mostly complies. But every bike is a little special (especially when you use KN filters or/and custom exhaust/s), so MAYBE you have to try more settings to achieve the setting that will fit to your bike. You can also leave this to your motorbike mechanic - it will be much less stressful for you :)
People in rural parts of Germany really don't know how to drive. For starters, it is possible to take a curve without leaving your lane. Really, it is! You might need to practice a bit, but it's worth the effort.
Citation from one of the XJ600 pages.. "There were also some problems with the swing-arm in the first two years of production - some of them broke, therefore Yamaha changed the part in 93. "
If you need, try google search to get informations about the restriction methods..all of them can you correct in your garage, if you belive your mechanic skills.. ;)
Yes, i know this road well..it is located ca 20km from my home.. :)
Good Morning to everyone. I have one Yamaha XJ600 Diversion 1994 and i tell you... 200000kms... My bike has seen born and die many bikes. You must know fly a Yamaha XJ600 Diversion ---> SARDÃO- THE OLD NEW GOST RIDER.
about oil leakage. my 200cc had it on main valve. and sound of valves is normal for me. i have an alfa romeo with boxer type engine so i listen to it every day.
two more questions. how to differ the restricted version from normal. and does the duble brake discs changes a lot? i was thinking of 1992-1996 it cheaper, and in technical way not so different from later versions.
Xj600 has no typical weakness..check the engine for oil leakage, exhaust system for rust(and scratches-new exhausts are not cheap)..just the same things like the other bikes. Restricted version(25kW)goes up to 90mph, full power ca 110mph, in between 4000-4500rpm some vibrations(its normal), and engine sound-typical for the XJ600 is the sound of valves-like the hemming machine-its normal. My english is realy bad..sorry.. :)
For the first "big" motorcycle is it ok..but first you should have some experience with a less-power motorcycle..125ccm, 250ccm..for one season at least..and then.... ;)
nice driving man. and about your story of the suzuki and the yamaha in short corners you are faster and i think your hart is a lot bigger ;) i self drive a fazer but mine dad is go to buy one this saturday so look if he could catch up whit me.
In short corners and at speeds around 100km/h is it not so much about engine power, but more about driving skills.. ;) And yes, its snow..if you like it, see the "Yamaha XJ 600 november ride 2" :))
Divesion 600 (61HP) is very good for a first bike. It's cheap, comfortable (2 persons + some stuff), and quite strong and fast. The rest is in driver hands. For example, a time ago I had an unexpected race with 2 other bikes. GSX600F Suzuki (90' model) and Yamaha (don't know model, a saw only '750') , and they loose in ca15km distance in intermediate traffic. Lot of fun!
Wow, I rly like that sound. I'm doing my drivers license for motorbikes at the moment, could you tell me what you think about having the XJ 600 as first bike?
1996..i use Yuasa battery-type YTX-9BS(12V/8Ah/120A) and have no problem :) You can use any 12V and more than 8Ah motorcycle battery with the dimensinons like the YTX-9BS - 150x87x105, but the 9BS has enough power and durability(in my case 3 years now). Sorry for my english.. :)
Hello my name is Alex i have jsut recently brought a xj600s looks to be a great biek is ther any thing i need to no about them mine has a slight rattle but have fixed that proplem and whats the alsome song many thanks Alex
V létě to zajedem spolu a uděláme daleko brutálnější videjko ;)
nice video! mine is a xj600S '99

and whats about swing arm? breakes? rusts? and about carbs, yeah, i've heard that. but it'll be hard to tes max power in city. well we'll see.
about u'r ride (in video). u cornered @ 100+km/h i wonder, did u now the road well? 'cause in other way it'd be quite dangerous.

There were several methods, to restrict the XJ600..all on the carbs and some of them you cant recognize at eye. Easiest way is the test of vmax..
I never ridden dual disc version, so i cant say..i suppose there are not so much difference, but.....
Some of the older versions, like the 92´, had a serious prolbem with the swingarm, so check it properly..

What is the problem? You cant get over 90mph? Maybe you have the reduced effect version..25kW?

I would suggest you keep to below 90 mph for now, or until you gain confidence. better safe than sorry! Speed is not everything!
