Or maybe, it just transforms while doing certain things.

Speed while dashig, Defense while using the Shield, Attack while doing Smash Attacks, etc.

and each special move uses a different form for the move.

B: Normal (for Kirby's sake)

Side B: Attack

Up B: Speed

Down B: Defense
