what is so funny is that your think patrol regulations are applied to plain clothes officers, or you want the rest of viewers to think that. If that were the case how would any under cover work ever be done? Why is it so important for you to 'uncover' who the plain clothes officers are anyway? Why do you need to identify them?
This video just shows the ignorance and provocation of the occupiers. A plain clothes does not have to identify. A uniform does. Hence why he asked none of the uniform. And your sticking a camera in people's faces of course theyre gonna be stand off ish. Dude if I seen you I'd stick that camera up your ass. Annoying voice on you.
As per NYPD code since 2003: "Members of the service" are required to "courteously and clearly state [their] rank, name, shield number and command, or otherwise provide them, to anyone who requests [they] do so. Allow the person ample time to note this information."
@mtraceyvideos that's correct while in uniform.... otherwise only when taking police action. it's in the nypd patrol guide. read it if you don't work and troll around on the internet mad at the cops and have no life as i surmise. what a bunch of whiny libtard losers all over this video.
Contact the local precinct with this video. NYPD patrol guide procedure 203-09 states that an officer has an affirmative obligation to provide upon a civilian's request his name, badge number, or other identifying information.
Police officers are not required to give their names, only identify themselves as "on duty" police officers and their badge numbers.

Not unlawful, only against department policy. I thought it was interesting the guy who told you he was not required to spell it for you.

Q: Do cops always have to identify themselves when asked?
A: No.
A common misconception is that people can identify an undercover officer by asking if they’re a cop. The officers can legally say no.
There may be separate regulations by city or state ordinance.
