Don't know about the HDR-FX 1000...seems very similary to the aforementioned cameras, just some updates like 24P. Cine feel is probably similar to HVRZ1, which is pretty damned convincing. HDV is the real caviat, as there is a limitation to the amount of data, so it's a pretty heavily compressed GOP format, but fine for TV and low-budget features.

Same camera. Only difference is XLR inputs for cleaner audio. Used one to shoot feature "Fists of Righteous Harmony" currently distributed in 20 countires via broadcast and DVD.

it's the Z1U... There are a series oh cameras... Z series, A series, and V series. I operate a Z1U and find it sufficient when adding a 35mm lens and Jib. Quality wise I's recommend the V1U. shoots in 1080p as well as 1080i and DVCAM. Unfortunately it is twice as light

Guys I have to dissapoint you, I'm using the z1 for almost one year, trying to focus is shit, white balance is shiiit, when stop recording you need several seconds to start again (very bad for news coverage)picture looks much better in pd170 (DVCAM)apart from this it's "OK".....hmmmmmmm

Beware - hot swapping I-link to computer can fry the camera - I ran into an $1100 bill for repairing myZ1 - sony told me it was my fault for hot swapping I-link and that that no-one they know would ever hot swap I-link.

agreed. actually he HVX is better than any HDV camera, because it is true HD, while HDV is compressed to mpeg codec.

totally agree with you...I have used both...the MPEG long GOP format of HDV SUCKS! If you're filming anything moving quickly or if you need to pan fast...forget it! It always turns out nasty!  The HVX rocks!

yeah it does....the only downside is million dollar p2 cards that record for 30 minutes max before u have to dump them, lol

Yeah, that's why I sold my 8GB P2 card that came with my HVX for free on ebay, and bought a Citidisk HD hard drive recorder for the exact same price. At 120GB, it will record over 2 hours of full DVCPro HD 100mb/s footage. If I am recording longer than that...I just dump the footage to another firewire hard drive and keep shooting. It's a simple setup that has worked really really well for me...and NO MORE TAPES!! Wahoo! :)

Dont get me wrong - the hvx is a nice cam, but a group of us had soooooo much trouble with it before that it just aint worth the hassle. im gonna buy the z1, a lot less hassly free and cheaper to buy.

well yeah, of course it is cheaper, lol...the HVX records to P2 cards, in about 2 to 4 times the quality that HDV compresses as...that is why it costs so much moe because it isn't HDV. All HDV cameras are inferior in quality to P2 HD cameras.

i just checked the price difference again, and have just found that i could buy the panasonic only £200 more than what i was gonna pay for the z1. Have you ever had any trouble with the p2 cards? i dont know what to do now......damn you crobs for getting me to look into this deeper. aarrgghh ... lol.
