  • I wish my generation of women would take pride in thier hair like Farrahs. She looks so sexy driving that Cougar!

  • every girl in high school had the farrah do

  • What a tank.

  • Every woman I knew in the 1970s who drove a big car like that ...hit just about every curb possible....their tires looked like they had been thru a war

  • @njguyzz21 ROFL

My grandma's (then new) 77 Sedan DeVille's steel bumpers came in SO handy! It would hit the steel post at the bank drive thru every time for instance. It was so huge in the driveway we'd all back into it when leaving, but never had to tell her because it never even got a scratch. Cars were TANKS back then!

  • I miss Farrah. I know some people thought she was an airhead, etc, but she was anything but. She never ceased to be interesting. Yeah, she was a sex symbol, but she was much more. She was always doing something interesting, like when she got into more art and stuff. It's weird, I find a lot of todays stars to be bimbos, but Farrah was just something more.

  • @somewhatlongdong she was high quality

  • i remember this !!! man those were the days....

  • Careful Farrah, I wouldn't go out and swim in the ocean at night with no lifeguards around. You might get attacked by a shark or worse.

  • I just liked the female

  • '

    nice car,,,

strong body and strong 2 bumpers in 1980's,,,

today car is weak body and 2 worse weak bumpers

  • @bestamerica

Today's car (even the small ones) are much safer than this piece of shit. Body on frame cars crumpled like tin cans back in the day. Check out the video here on Youtube where a 2009 Malibu is crashed into a 1959 Bel Air - and then tell me which car you'd want to be in - a new one or an older one.

  • Krashdavus,

    '

    okay thank explain,,,

dont use a word - YOU - on me,,,

old used vehicle is better stronger than today is worse weak,,,

used vehicle had 2 strong metal bumpers,,,

new vehicle had 2 weak bumpers with foam, plastic, rubber,,,

look awful and shame on all automakers

  • @bestamerica

"You"...are an idiot. And stop butchering the English language bonehead.

  • She sure is. Oh, right... the car.

  • I love Cougars ;-)

  • Glove soft vinyl, lol!!

  • @zx1400a7f pure natural vinyl im sure lol

  • True but this country made cars that felt good to drive back then and unlike their predecessors, are really sought after today.

  • sort of a neat car, but what few people realized was it was just a dolled-up, overpriced Gran Torino. And there wasn't all that much room inside when you consider the sheer size of the thing. And the worst part of it was, these were Ford/Mercury MIDSIZE cars. The 'full size' LTD and Marquis were absolutely mammoth in proportion.

  • COUGAR???? ...forget the car, I'll take the real cougar lady-- farah

  • the 1974-1976 Mercury Cougar was assembled in

    United States: Lorain, Ohio

  • I drove a Cougar. Now I am one.

  • HOW MUCH WAS GAS IN '75'.?.....U COULD FIT 2 HONDA CIVICS IN 1 MERC.

  • @chadberry75 it was around 20 cents a gallon, hence the mega yatch style of it, hopefully someone brings back these road beasts!!!

  • She's going to get sand in her new Mercury.

  • Hey , it had a thing that made the wipers work intermittently and the other cool gadget that allowed you to ride without having your foot on the gas pedal!!!

  • A Classy car & Lady!

  • Cheesy crappy commercial, but I had to see it just because of Farrah...

  • Farrah we will love you forever

  • i hate people who dislike this!

  • gratuitous bikini shot but the cougar is pretty though

  • Such a gorgeous face...RIP Farrah

  • "There's a cougar in the damn car!!!!!" ...well, I learned nothin about racin', i ruined my 'crystal gale' shirt, and I got mawled by a cougar...

  • Crazy bout Mercury!!

  • About foreign cars taking over I gotta say this. The Europeans have been doing it for a long time. America is a relatively new country still to this day. Racing has been overseas long before the first nascar track was ever built and way long before the moonshiners where doggin southern highways. They go to school longer, study harder, and are masters in what they build. It shows in their work. Nothing wrong with adopting a standard for your cars from people who do it better. Longer. Why not?

  • Once we were a nation that had our own style. Now it seems we are so apologetic and unsure of ourselves. We seem to define ourselves by what we consider 'our betters'. We make cars that emulate German, British, and Japanese ideals. We have bought, sold and consumed along the way, our own identity. Farrah was Texas made. The Cougar was Detroit. Goodbye to you both.

  • Thumbs up if you don't care the car but the woman.

  • Even a Gremlin looks like a million bucks with Farrah in it. Wish she had posed for Playboy back then instead of the '90's.

  • Had one like this for a first car in 2007, best car I ever owned.

  • now you know thats from the 70s

  • Farrah wasnt 40+ in this ad...hence no "cougar" but hot otherwise

  • "glove soft vinyl" ha ha...does that really exist? I remember in 1978 my buddy's mom got a new Merc Cougar. You could fit half the neighborhood in that thing.

  • Opera window and moon roof , sign me up. Where do I buy one? Farrah looks so stunning here. I still have all my Charlies Angels bubble gum cards, lots with Farrah. I have cherished them since I was a kid in the 70's.

  • god she was so hot

  • That is kinda weird how they blacked out the sky at the end.

  • @monkeywithagun52 not really, this was another sign that the "controllers" knew of inbound "planet x" and how it would reset everything...

  • nothing says "coked-out wash-up" like "Farrah"

(also the cars a piece of crap)

  • @slikkwon Still better than all the shit you've got favourited .... adhd much ?

  • Was that cougar (or big cat) really in the commercial with her or did they overlay two scenes?

  • Wow. That is the best I've EVER seen Farrah look.

  • She runs like a girl down to the surf...lol

  • She could affort that car.

  • Beautiful car/cat~

  • I was too young to drive when this ad was out, so I only paid attention to the girl . . . back then I wasn't even aware the car was in the ad until they showed the Mercury logo at the end.

  • My 84 T-Bird was 16 mpg V8 5 Liter my, 89 F150 truck was 12mpg and V8 5.6 Liter, not much different than the T-chicken, prob just as heavy. You pass everything but a gas station, but at $1.00 a gallon in 2000 who cared.

  • My 84 T-Bird was pretty much the same thing as this tank!

  • My parents bought a 1976 Cougar XR7 after my Dad saw this add on TV! He kept it until he died in 2004.

  • omg love farrah and this car

  • Again with Don LaFontaine. did this guy ever take a break?

  • glove-soft vinyl???

  • glove soft vinyl

  • "At the sign of the cat!" Always loved the cat growl and tagline at the end of these old Mercury commercials.

  • Farrah=100% PERFECTION

NO ONE looks that natural and fresh in Hollywood anymore.

  • @schambersnyc dude she probably doesnt look that good anymore

  • I like how they call it a moon roof instead of a sun roof....

  • @Noelle678 Sun roofs do not slide all the way back.

  • A cougar in a Cougar...

  • A cougar driving a Cougar with a cougar on top. LOL. Who would have thought back then that the definition of cougar would have changed in 30 plus years.

  • I love this commercial...nothing about fuel economy, not wearing a seat belt, driving on the beach, and a big cougar climbing all over the car lol..what's not to like?

  • godspeed Colonel

  • 'Moon roofs' came out in the 1970s on American cars and were glass while sunroofs were steel. The sunshade seen in that clip slid back when the roof was opened-just like it does w/glass sunroofs today. The glass version was still NEW in 1975. European cars like Mercedes and BMWs of that era only offered steel sunroofs.

  • @lasuvidaboy actually ford offered a sun roof on the 1960 t-bird as an option ...then it showed up on the 1967 cougars ...and i have seen a 1969 mercury marquis with a factory sunroof

  • This have to be one of my fav american cars along with the 77 Trans Am

  • Hey Farrah it's not good to go out swimming in the ocean at night with no life guards watching out for your safety. You could get attacked by a shark-lol.

  • Why is the sky black at the end, when clearly the sun is out? (evidenced by the reflection on the waves)

  • aint this something...today farrah would be called a cougar ,,,so a cougar advertising a cougar ,,,,and being a proud red blooded american guy ...i like em both ...hell yeah

  • I call it a sun roof, but moon roof sounds rather romantic, doesn't it? c:

  • @xDONTPANICx

Moonroof was Ford's name for it. I grew up that way so that's always what I say! And I think it actually flows better than SUNroof. Just as there was a "moonlite serenade" AND a "sunrise serenade" - which was more popular? Got that right.

  • @xDONTPANICx If I remember correctly, the term "moonroof" was used when the sunroof panel was a thick but semi-translucent, white frosted glass that let soft light in even when closed, while "sunroof" was used when the panel was just the standard steel. Moonroofs were popular on mid-70s US luxury cars, especially the "personal luxury" cars that were big at the time, like the '75 Mercury Cougar, Ford Thunderbird, Lincoln Mark IV, etc.

  • @xDONTPANICx hahaha moon roof does sound better

  • Hard to say which one of them had been around the block more often...

  • I think I do remember this one. And Farrah driving it and a big putty cat coming on top of the car. I think she was the hottest of the Angels. Very unfortunate for her early departure from life as a victim of cancer and happening on the same day when Michael Jackson passed. Her death was greatly overshadowed by Jackson's.

  • where are the running lights for that boat? these were some big big cars ladies and gentlemen

  • @thewildwilsonshow Yeah, the 1975 Mercury Cougar was big, but at the time it was considered a "mid-size" car by US standards, roughly in the same size category as a Mercury Montego, Ford Torino, Chevrolet Chevelle, or Oldsmobile Cutlass. There were even bigger cars around, like the Mercury Monterey and Mercury Marquis.

  • God damn, now thats a commercial.

  • "Cougar" and "T-Bird", brothers!

  • I love that swim suit at the end! Holy crap, it looks like she has now top on while looking from the back!

  • I love how her hair gets bigger every time you see her in the commercial

  • You have two groups here and they are unrelated but for a commercial - You have those who are fans of Farrah and You have fans of the Mercury Cougar. Messages are either one thing or the other. Let me say (and you can check it out) The folks at Mercury always picked hot women to show off the Cougar - plain and simple.

  • damn farrah was sexy

  • '

this car is so strong, heavy duty, both bumpers stronger, less hurt while accident,,,

    but taillight is so pooooor,,,

do not have 2 amber yellow lights on the rear taillights for turning sign and emergency parking lot

  • ♥Beautiful Farrah♥ RIP

  • I also remember these ads...........beautiful Farrah, beautiful car. Oh yeah, and beautiful me..............I was 20!

  • Nothing like soft vinyl! HA!

  • Hot! Farrah and the car

  • OH YEAH.

  • sigh the late 70's end of the line for good looking cars! cept the monte carlo's and buick regals

  • '

yes this car was a so strong / hard body, both hard steel bumpers / cheaper price in 1970's,,,

    honest price,,,

now today 2000 to 2010, car is so weak body, both weak form inside bumpers / too much costly,,,

    that is RIPOFF dirty price

  • Which Cougar are they talking about , the cat , the car or the woman ? lol

  • @azyaninvasion Farrah Fawcett was NEVER a cougar. She's an angel. :)

  • @nosuchpersonvideo True, that.

  • I remember these ads. I believe their popularity made that poster come about.

  • Just got finished restoring one of these but did it with a Starsky and Hutch stripe.

  • can you imagine parking a car like this in NY, nowadays? that would be priceless!

  • Her hair suddenly changes at :16

  • This mans voice is familiar! He did all the line up announcements for the ABC Television Network. I recall he had that very exciting tone to his voice, especially when he announced for Charlies Angels, Threes company, Love boat and Fantasy Island!

  • Rest In Piece - Farrah Fawcett

  • A huge manly car, Farrah in her prime, and not one single mention of gas mileage or being safe for the environment.

To my hot tub time machine, quick!

  • I'm afraid your hot-tube time machine would disappoint you. There may not have been any mention of gas mileage or environmental safety in this commercial, but there was a lot of fuel economy consciousness and pollution concern in the US in the 70s, resulting in substantial downsizing at the end of the decade, emissions controls, etc, plus the introduction of a host of US-made subcompacts that actually sold well. And the huge bumpers on this baby were the result of the 1973 5-mph bumper laws.

  • @pioneer101112 And note that it's a moon roof! (not a sun roof)...lol

  • @pioneer101112 Actually, I had one exactly like this & they DID have a catalytic convertor & emissions system & for a v-8 engine, got around 18 MPG, which was good back then! Nice thing was, you had about 8 feet from you to the front end of the car & it rode nice. It was like sitting in an overstuffed recliner goin down the road, unlike these modern rice-burnin', hard-seated, feel-every-rock-in-the-road, computerized, can't-work-on, cheap, tiny, plastic hunx-o-junk they call cars nowadays!'

  • @seatboi Catch the bus then meathead

  • @seatboi - Right on brother! I miss those big cars. Was like riding on air and the power steering - you could turn with your finger

  • LOL! Holy Shit!!

  • Wow ! I was 11 years old when I saw this last... and I remembered every bit of it ..Time is a funny thing..

  • Now that's a friggin car. Moon roof. Whoah there dude.

  • Jesus drives a Cougar

  • @theothertroll "I'm just sad Farrah never got to experience my love sausage"!

you are most definitely a TROLL!! Now why would you think a beautiful, classy woman like FARRAH would want your little bitty weenie troll thingy. You're just a rude, disrespectful punk!! as far as the commercial goes, awesome, I miss the good old days and those rockin behemoths. God Bless Farrah!

  • These are very sharp under appreciated cars. Monte Carlo people beg to find one with the options that are standard on the Cougar. I like the 67-68 style best but once you start thinking 70's, this is tops. And hotter than a Torino.

  • wow

  • This car is too awesome for this planet.

  • Ugly car, Gorgeous Farrah !

  • thems was the good old days

  • awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • This was my mother secound car it was really nice it was loaded out!!!

  • "With the rich feel of glove soft vinyl". What cheap-ass wears vinyl gloves? And since when is vinyl a sign of wealth or luxury? Gimme a break!

  • @palebeachbum Yes no doubt, that and showing that you have no class for even saying such a feeble and cheap remark on a classy commercial.

    Colonel Green USAF USMC

  • @ColonelPhillipGreen It's called irony... and apparently it's lost on you.

  • Comment removed

  • @palebeachbum No son, rather it is you that does not seem to "get it' at all. How sad for both you and the good old days when people had class, and a cohesive thought in their God given brains! Pass the bottle.

    Colonel Phillip Green USAF USMC

  • @ColonelPhillipGreen Yes; Class, whatever happened to it?

  • @ColonelPhillipGreen No sense in arguing with these kids and young adults today. It is sad of who what they have become; disrespectful, rude, disobedient and ignorant (and they call us ignorant). They think they're better and know more than their elders, parents and older counter parts. I just been arguing with one about rock music and why today's music is so bad. They're not worth. I guess they'll find out sooner or later....the hard way.

  • cool car...460 bigblock..mmmm ..girl is hot too

  • I loved the Couger... with ET Mags, 50s in the back, 60s in the front. That car had the triple blinking tail-lights too. But hey, I had blacklight posters and long hippie hair so what do you expect.

  • God, that car is ugly.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't know Farrah was the original "Mercury Girl!" As announced today, the brand is dead circa 2012. A sign of the times.

  • @RoadCone411 YES ! ;D So , SHARE THIS VIDEO ON FACEBOOK and everywhere you can ! OK ? GOOOOOooooooooooo ;)) Thanks for FARRAH FAWCETT !

  • Not only is that car NOTHING like a reflection of a cougar but they probably had to tow the thing out of the sand!!!!

  • @TheGiantNoodle

I was thinking the same thing!! I thought, "there ain't no way in hell they're driving that thing outta there once it stops".

God I remember these commercials so vividly. They always had the cat growl at the end like that.

  • WOW!... Glove soft Vinyl!

  • Not bad, but nothing beats the 1967-1969 Cougars!

  • Fabulous lost years !

Farrah was the most beautifull women, ever !

    I miss her !

    Thanks for that post.

  • I was very young when this commercial was playing, but I remember it to this day and have always had flashbacks of it.

    R.I.P. Farrah <3

  • 幼少時代によくスーザン・アントンと混同してたw

    この型のクーガーは金持ちの遊び人風な中年男が

    乗り回してるのを当時よく見たにゃ〜。。。

  • ファラ・フォーセットいいオンナだったねえ。。。

  • ~ Moon Roof ' ! !

  • @thecaproni100 Yeah, I liked that, too. That term will have to stay.

  • "at the sign of the cat...*growl*" one of my fave taglines! spiffy car, too.

  • what happened to Farrah?

  • @dnl5649 Farrah Fawcett died last summer (June 25 , 2009) the same day Michael Jackson died

  • @zetetic0void thats sad, she was very pretty when she was young. i remember the old cougar tv commercials with Farrah. what happened, old age?

  • we miss you Farrah

  • @selloutasaurus yes we do & she was so sexy back then & she was still sexy before she passed away.

  • My smoking-hot Grade 6 teacher had one of these back in 1977. Sure made an impression on me.

  • God rest you Farrah!

  • I like the swimsuit.

  • I like the swimsuit.

  • Glove soft VINYL......LOL. A poor mans Mark IV

  • It is a 75 model you idiot.

  • Not a '75, maybe a 73 or 72.

  • God love Farrah!I DID like Cougars more because of her!

  • boy. wasn't she lovely? just so pretty...

  • Man, When he says "At the Sign of the Cat" that brings back total memories. Only 10 yrs old and no worries. Also remember how hazy and smoggy it was back then. ha ha

  • Those were the good old days when you could have filled up the car with gas for $5.00 and gotten change back :-)

  • Why ar car seats sometimes refered to as bucket seats?

  • Car seats are identified by different design: Bench Seat, Bucket Seats, Captains Chairs.

Bucket seats generally sat lower than the stick shift and are more common in race cars, where as you would find a bench seat in a truck or older sedan.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Jack Condon, author of the Charlei's Angels Casebook, said in an interview on short lived tv THE INCURABLE COLLECTOR on ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT Network that in 1977, Farrah Fawcett's popularity skyrocketted to such a level that she was popular than Marilyn Monroe. That was due in part to CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

  • And that famous red swimsuit poster, 67nairb. Over 12 million of them sold.

  • I forgot to add the word more in my comment. Farrah Fawcett's popularity skyrocktted to such a level in 1977, she was "more" popular than Marilyn Monroe. In the tv movie BEHIND THE SCENES: CHARLIE'S ANGELS, her husband, Lee Majors thought that Farrah would end just as Marilyn would. Farrah died too young but not due to any meltdowns or unhappiness which fame can cause. But due to cancer.
