  • Looks pretty cool to me.

  • THANK YOU.

That was the best laugh I've had all night.

  • If this was in 1948...then it paved the way for Godzilla!

  • How cruel humans are... Can´t they see that those poor reptilians only needed a wee-wee in the jungle behind them (the nearest toilet around)? Just see the typical pee-dance that those dinos perform... And finally, one of them cannot stand it any longer. Well, just the human being and his abusive attitude towards animals.

  • When dinosaurs had arthritis.

  • Dinosaurs like those T-Rexes do not sound like that

  • ohh no monkey dinos

  • OH MY GOSH, IN A MATTER OF HOURS WE WILL BE EATEN ALIVE!

  • cool dinos :)

  • Why is that scene reminiscent of Easter Island?

  • Being in the 40s - it ain't THAT bad (6-7 yers before original Godzilla). Have seen a LOT worse the recent years.

  • When the dino falls over, that was actually because the actor inside the rubber suits were so incredibly hot, one just passed out during filming...and they just left it in!!

  • They look like penguins...

  • This clip should be titled: "Hunting dinosaurs for fun and profit." Those dinos looked as if they had arthritis. Man, what Hollywood didn't know about dinosaurs in the late 1940s. Thank goodness for Ray Harryhausen!

  • don't even compare this to godzilla. he at least could open and close his mouth

  • worst movie ever believe me ppl.

  • I wish i could find this movie somewhere. The constumes aren't terrible, and it was the only dino movie from the 40's.

  • that was cheap. the dino screams were chimpanzee noises

  • those dinos looks like a drunk rednecks :):)

  • i love those cutie dinosaurs. the guys firing those rifles should have the rifles stuck up their butts

  • they sound like high pitched elephants or low pitched angry monkeys

  • so,this is prety much like a B series version of Monster island from Godzilla....NOT!!!!

  • leave those dinosaurs alone!!!

  • 0:17 the rubber suit monster that fell, wasn't suppose to. The guy inside fainted.

  • @juventinorocks I remember hearing about that on the films documentary

  • @mrtalent09 Yeah.

  • @mrtalent09 Where can I find that documentary?

  • @juventinorocks Really?

  • @mistaglasses Yes. I saw a documentary about it. But they STILL put it in the film because it was "okay" and that people would think that the monster died of the shots, the people were shooting.

  • actuallly its 1949

  • even if its 1948 it has better specal efects then the eden formula that is 2006

  • Damn Nature you're scary!!!

  • HAAHAAHAAHAAA!!!! look at those tiny lil arms

  • 0:17 XD! "poor guy" :/

  • Poor Barney is getting shot

  • those dinos looks like a retard

  • i'm jerking off furiously right now

  • I give the creators an A for effort. I'm sure this was awesome at the time. Audiences had never seen anything like this before. The dinosaurs do come off as vicious and creepy. But, why do they sound like screaming chimpanzees?

  • The dinosaurs' eyes scared me half to death back when I saw this at the age of 5 or 6.

  • Cryptozoological novel about two boys who find something strange on a beach one night see video book trailer

  • I wonder if people fell for this like they fell for King Kong.

  • This would've been really realistic and scary if they shot it through a dark-tinted lens that was legally blind.

  • Saw this on a Discovery Channel special years ago. The Ceratosaurus that falls down at 0:18 was actually footage of the guy in the suit fainting. It was very hot when they filmed this, and I guess they improvised and used the film for showing a dinosaur getting killed. Classic comedy. :)

  • i love this movie. where can i see it?

  • The sound disign suck and the ceratosaurus costume sucks.

  • looks pretty good for ter 40s

  • ahahahahhaah!!! i love this crap xD

those r oviously men in outfits. their mouths dont move when they yell and they wobble, lol. its hard to walk in a rubber suite xD

  • At 0:17 , the actor in the dino suit actually wasnt acting when he fell over. He actaully fainted because of extreme heat exaustion, and died a day later. Seriously, look it up!

  • @TheSonomaDude, That could be a true story, however, I thought you meant he fell over on accident and wasn't supposed to fall down during the scene. According to the action on the screen, the dinosaur fell over dead because it was shot at several times.

  • holly crap im relly scard , but cool vido

  • lol!!!! xD!!!! 0:09 those dinos look so funny!! hahahaha xD thkxx for uploading this!

  • My eyes!

    MY EYES!!!!

  • That must've been scary as shit to people in 1948. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people died of fright in the theaters.

  • GODZILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • @Zoras88 what do you want?

  • I watched it only for Crash Corrigan as the Sloth-Gorilla.

  • i saw a documentary once called dinomania u no the dinosaure that fell over and was suppost to have died he wasnt intended to do that in the making of the film at that time it was over 130 degrees on site and the guy that was in the dino suit fell unconcious from heat stroke so they desided to leave it in

  • *

at 00:16 when the dinosaur falls down that wasn't in the script. The actor in the suit passed out from heat stroke.

    Seriously

  • the mentally handicapped dinosaurs

  • Noisy much.......

  • I hear elephants

  • That is by far the worst suitmation I have ever seen. Even the cheapest Japanese TV monsters look more realistic. Hell, even Reptilicus looks more realistic.

  • This looks pretty good coming from '48. The sound the monster makes kinda' sounds like Rodan. Anotha one on my list to check out.

  • dig those monkey cries !!!!!!!

  • This looks terrible!

  • thank for this clip! i love seeing dino movies over the years, does anyone know if this movie on line anywhere?

  • Are those T-Rexs pissing on or what? Just look at their so-close knees and legs, and their "peculiar dancing" not moving from where they are... until one of them cannot stand it any more. Anyway, excellent images in colour, while later movies still were in black and white. Magnificent results despite the poor sourcs they might´ve had at those times.

  • Wow, this was the first monster movie I ever saw! I was six or seven years old (this was in 1948) and I believed everything was real! Now, 60 years later, those distance shots are still pretty good! I remember my father reassuring me, bless his heart. Thanks for posting this.

  • That dinosaur falling over was actually when one of the guys in the dinosaur costumes passed out because of the heat. They found a way of inserting that shot in the movie.

  • 1948? Wow, the SFX were done very well in this movie.

  • 29 seconds aww dam i a slasher fan but why do i want to see more of this and 1948 wow i think a remake would be good but no computerised monsters

  • @EmoDeathStar121

to do that would mean pretty much doing this movie exactly as it is seen here. More or less just a remastered version ade in the present day. Besides there's enough films in the world where "scientists" shoot at animals weither or not they are an immediate danger to themselves or not. This is a movie best left alone or at least mocked by the MST3K crew. Lord knows it deserves it.

  • @NUTCASE71733 Well id kiss you but im sure you wouls slap me only cause i lost this films name i tried to find it again and i couldnt than you commmonted my commiont but yea it looks very good for its time i realy dont know how they mad it in 1948 when was colour TV dude and also did anyone famouse make and star in the film lilke notasible stars like Marlyon Monroe just used jer as an example i know she wasent in it

  • @EmoDeathStar121

Of course she wasn't in it, she died years before 1977. And I do hope that's sarcasm because this movie's effects suck, even by 40s standards. They really could have done better, even if it was a TV movie. They just didn't care.

  • @NUTCASE71733 I know she wasent in it i a big fan of hers i just looked at the cast list and asked if there was anyone as Famouse as her in it lol another Icon or are they just basic for gotton actors and Nope graphics in this are good have you seen or heard of Terror on Lock Ness 1981 it uses the same effects and is one of the wost movies ever made lol I respect this cause it was a head of its Time im not saying recomnd this to the world lol It more a Personaly Plesure

  • Rubber costumes ahead of it's time? Not really. There were movies in the 30s that used elaborate costumes and more often than not they sucked too. Claymation, AKA Stop-motion animation would have worked far better for this movie as the dinosaurs would have at least MOVED as opposed to lumbered about like drunken morons.

  • @NUTCASE71733 True but its in colour and far more relistic than stop motition i think

  • @EmoDeathStar121

Opinion is one thing but that thought is....there's no word to describe it! How can you picture people in suits being better than stop-moton animation for dinosaurs?! As cheesey as the old claymation dinos were at least they could move without falling down or looking like they have to take a leak! This movie is crap, and it should be featured on Rifftrax or at least Ceinamatic Titanic because ths clip alone shows how loathsome it is.

  • I'd love to find the whole movie. The sad thing is that it's actually more convincing than some of the cheaper CGI FX.

  • sadly true...

    but also awesome.

  • Those dinos are friggin creepy though. The blank look on their faces, and the screech makes your brain tie in a knot.

  • Unkown Island is scary! Anything 'Unkown" is scary!

  • why was this banned in Sweden?

  • I remeber watching this and after the movie was over. I said "Man what a great comdey!"

  • I remember that in this film one of the funniest lines I have ever heard got muttered. The guy in the black hat and suit sneaks up on a lady in the woods and says "whats the matter? Jungle Frighten ya?' Hilarious. I wish that part was on youtube.

  • those dinos are cuuuute!!! :)

  • @tracyterry hey Trace... yeah they are. cute little arms and baby-steps.. lol

  • the dino falling over was unintentional...the actor inside, who i believe was Bob Burns, passed out from the heat of the suit!!!!!

  • WTF!!!

  • Just when I thought I'd seen 'em all???!! Is the year 1948 correct on this?

  • No it's not. It's actually from the year 1968, I know because I saw it.

  • No, Unknow Island was made in 1948... not 68

  • their roars and screams are the scariest part.

  • what are you inhaling angirly for?

  • Got any more clips? This is a weird movie. I saw it on TV back around 1958-59, and as much as I loved dino movies, this one spooked me. For a low-budget production is was pretty good.

  • That was cool, now I want to see this movie

  • No, Kirlian196, you're very wrong, Stan Winston is gonna have his place even better than Ray Harryhausen, and The Dinosaurs In Jurassic Park Do Look Real.

  • now eat your ballz out stan winston!

  • Stop motion has its place. CGI is an improvement but when it's overdone it's a zero sum game. Ray Harryhausen will go down as a pioneer. Stan Winston not so much. The saurians in JP did not look that real.

  • Really, I LOVE the world of animatronics and robots for movies, along with stop motion, CGI, and suitimation.

  • evan, u would like any special effect as long as it's a special effect.

  • YEP!

  • The look More Real than the ones on Discovery Channel

  • >:( (inhales angrily)

  • I still like suitimation and stop motion better than CGI. They just look more realistic (if done properly but I also love the cheezy ones) rather than something out of a bad computer game. It doesn't match the look of the film if you add something that isn't even there to begin with.

  • I agree. Check out Raptor Island, the dinos look like a incredibly bad video game

  • you know what sucks? the sequal, raptor planet. Raptor island, as far as i remember, had FX that rivaled Jurassic Park, but I saw it a long time ago. last time it was on Sci-fi, I was like 6.

  • Check out Aztec Rex, its a lot better that Paptor Island

  • I meant Raptor

  • I saw aztec rex when It premiered the Sci-Fi channel. It had its flaws, but overall, was a great movie. Its based on a partly true story, did you know that? Aztec or Myan artifacts were found in the shape of dinosaurs, suggesting those people knew about dinosaurs, which history says they shouldnt have.

  • Never heard of that. I know about them and UFOs

  • Its true. Its either, thousands of years ago in mexico, humans and dinosaurs were living together, OR (and probably the more reasonable choice) the objects are either good fakes, or a very strange coincidence.

  • I thought the dino in Aztec Rex looked horrible though. I agree there's some great CGI out there, but Jurassic Park is a rare case in how real the dinos looked. Even Primeval, which I love, has some sketchy CGI occasionally. All F/X lose their impact when we get used to them and realize how to spot them.

  • Well, I guess we all have our own opinions. But I agree. CGI is only useful when done and used right. It just looks better when there is actually something in front of the camera. Jurassic park used CGI only when needed. They even had animotronic dinos. Pretty cool. Those guys knew how to use CGI.

  • I absolutely agree that the biggest trick is knowing when to use which method. Sci-fi movies and TV series don't always have the option to mix methods from a budget standpoint.

  • Thats true, but if you can't, improvise. The movie Godzilla wanted to use stop-motion like King Kong, but didn't have the time or budget. They made a 200lb monster suit, and it turned out to be one of the greatest monsters of all time. So if done right, it can be a really good movie.

  • I agree, raptor island had some pretty bad effects. And the "dead" people were just a pair of boots with a blood puddle around them.

  • What tripped me out about Raptor Island is that I've seen video games from the late 90's that had better dinosaur effects than that.. I think they spent a hundred dollars on those FX..

  • As a baby boomer you had to go along with this then. They did not have all of this high tecno stuff with computers and things like they do today! This is all they had back then .All of that other stuff came as the years advanced on. Its easy to look back at this and laugh, but who would have thought that we would have the things we have now!

  • I agree. This is still far better than anything I could ever create. A marvel in it's day! I respect and appreciate these types of effects in the older films. Without them we wouldn't have what we do today.

  • Yes then you are also very creative minded!! Are you into film making?

  • I wonder if this inspired Godzilla?

  • i wounder if it inspired Barney The Dinosaur! :D

  • It's his ancestors, as years progressed the got shorter, turned purple and green, and learned how to talk. LoL

  • Sorry about switching the last two posts!!! Still I'd love to be the guy that can still tell people how he "passed out from the HEAT in a movie and they LIKED it so much...they left it in!!" A nice "charm" about t-rex's using guys in bad suits!!!

  • Cont...

When they were shooting this...one guy passed out from the heat and fell "right on his face!!!"...this lookd so "GOOD" they left it in the final movie and that's the one you see "die" here!!! TRUE story!!

  • Okay!! I have a friend in Hollywood that KNOWS the history of LOTS of films made in the 40's-70's and more!!! Bob Burns.

Well he told me about this scene posted here and here's the true (and "funny") story!!...

They shot the scenes of these guys in the dinasaur suits out in the dessert near the LA area...even if it was the "cool" time of the year...it was still "HOT" in those latex or whatever suits!!!!!

    (see next post!)

  • these dinosaurs make godzilla look like the T-Rex in jurrasic park

  • Cool, isn't it? :D

  • @Jynkei yeeaahh!

  • This is one of the only dinosaur pictures made in the 1940s. It was a quickie, focusing on a man and a woman who head up an expedition to an island to investigate strange creatures seen from the air during WWII. The movie has some of the worst dinosaur effects ever committed to film: models being pulled by strings through miniature jungle scenes; and, seen here, men in suits limping through the desert. Although, for the time, the special effects were almost fascinating.

  • Thanks for the info! :) I didn't know that...

  • No, CGI looks very real, the only reason CGI looks a bit weird sometimes is because people don't work hard on making it look real & good. But also it's not scary because it looks realistic, Dinosaurs weren't really scary, they were Animals, Just like Lions, Tigers, Us & Birds. These old movies portray Dinosaurs, even Leaf Eaters as vicious Kill for pleasure creatures that only want to eat you & terrorize places. Dinosaurs weren't this terrible, but no CGI does look scary, The T-Rex chase in JP.

  • Hmm, I don't know. CGI doesn't really scare me, either. And I don't want to avenge anything. I just uploaded this video, because it seemed like a good idea, and because everybody can have a good laugh at those silly dinosaurs and their awkward faltering. :)

  • @Jynkei You are right. Compare the original "The Fog "with the remake.I would hate it if someone remade C.H.U.D. and made the CHUDS with CG.I feel bad for people who did not grow up with these classic movies. All the new superhero movies like Spiderman and The Incredible Hulk etc look awful to me.

  • @Stravinktyklow What the heck are you talking about!!?CG has totally ruined Sci Fi etc! CG looks glossy and not solid! Can you imagine if the first Star Wars or Alien or Close Encounters of ... or John Carpenters The Thing had been done with CG.That new Battlesrar Galactica series is so horrible with the CG!

  • @Stravinktyklow wel first of all this movie is not stop motion second stop motion too me looks way cooler than cgi and third i just like stopmotion better because its more fun plus cgi is not scary. STOP MOTION RULES.

  • @chriscross584 No CGI RULES, STOP-MOTION LOOKS FAKE!

  • @Firebrdsuite Stop motion? that ain't stop motion that's two guys in dino suits

  • @Goji1 well, stop-motion and this look fake!

  • @Firebrdsuite If it weren't for stop motion, puppets, robots, makeup, or guys in rubber latex suits. Cgi wouldn't be around today even though some cgi is complete shit sometimes like the syfy channel's crap. I personally think the movies from the 1920's through the 1980's have better effects and movies than today's cgi bull shit movies. Remember this is my opinion you may not agree with my opinion but you can NOT stop me from having my own opinion.

  • Those dinosaurs look potted.

  • When You Compare This to The T-Rex Chase In Jurassic Park, you know which technology triumphs.

  • Rubber costumes ftw :)

  • No, Rubber Costumes Look So Fake, like This. Look @ Jurassic Park & see how real The Dinosaurs Look, they even behave like Dinosaurs might have really Behaved. This is for Cowards who are too scared of the monsters looking real that they don't want the monsters to look any more real & scary then their Turkey Sandwich. CGI is the best, Honestly! Why do you guys try to Avenge Stop_Motion, Rubber Costumes & Other Old-Movie Technology as if it had been brutally murdered. Its time has passed. time

  • Stravin, this was the 60's MAN! THEY DID NOT HAVE CGI OR GOOD EXPENSIVE ANIMATRONICS! Good god people.
