this etude no. 10 in E minor, better known as tristesse, composed by Chopín is to me one of the 3 top melodies of all times, and when you hear it with such a wonderful tenor as Paul Potts, a mixture of electrifyng chills run through my spinal cgord; perfect performar, perfect song!!!! "20 out of 10 points"
Yeah, this song must be sung in sadder way, but as said, he's just started from a self-taught not long ago! He's more concentrade in learning to sing the song than feeling it still. But still a great start!
It was awful when he began to sing : 2009 is a better year for him. He made great progress both with the art of singing and with the quality and technic of his voice. We must appreciate these great efforts.
"Tristesse" is about the love Chopin had for Poland. Yes it may apply to a lost love, indeed. To Chopin, Poland was the lost love as he lived in France. "Tristesse" or "sadness" in the English language was inspired in Chopin by his native country of Poland during the 1800's while Poland was a partitioned nation and wiped off the map of Europe. "Tristesse" pertains to the "sad" situation of Poland at the time.Chopin lived the first 20 years of his short life in Poland, it was his inspiration.
I was actually there by accident, and I was actually quite positively impressed. I never saw the talen show but did catch him in the news later. Wonderful guy.
It's AMAZING to see how much talent comes from Great Britain....Paul Potts, Connie Talbot, Hollie Steel, Shaheen Jafargholi, and now Susan Boyle!!!! All of them are incredibly talented, and I'm truly impressed by all of them.
Why is he singing in a shopping mall?? He deserves to be in the Sydney Opera House, in Madison Square Garden, in all of the world's major opera venues.
notice the only people standing around (with the exception of a few) are older folk? why is it that only older folk care and take the time to listen and watch a man with a powerful voice sing romantic music? do young people not understand the beauty and brilliance in this kind of music? i think paul should together with some composers to come up with his own pieces. it'd be nice.
If you compare this performance with his early ones; it's obvious his voice is getting stronger and better. His had now been able to have the training he couldn't when younger. He gets better with age. In a few more years he could be a real force in opera. Very good stuff here.
Well, he said that he felt very nervous auditioning for BGT, so I think it's because he has felt more comfortable performing in front of large audiences.
Wow this is so beautiful his voice is so smooth! There's a song that is really beautiful when you listen to it from start to finish (you have to be really patient) your mood is different at the end. Its actually really nice minus the sound quality. copy and paste this into youtube search: "*Relaxing Stream* *read description- piano composed*"
I would say that these venues are better than big stadiums. You wouldn't be able to see him. You would have to watch a big screen. At least you can see him up close and personal.
Desde a primeira vez que o vi cantando sabia que seria este fenômeno, me emocionei demais. Parabéns, realmente as aparencias enganam. Obrigado por nos brindar com tanto talento.
It's normal for there to be differing levels of success in each country. If you consider that someone had to pay to transport him there, good money was spent.
He's also reaching an audience he might not have otherwise. All good!
I guess if you are jealous then maybe a trip to Australia is in order!
it doesnt matter where he sings,as long he do so...and it shows us that he has the gretness to get bigger ...and i looking forward to this time- and i am happy to have THIS time nowdays in my memory.Juergen-Vienna
INCREDIBLE VOICE. I wish I could sing like this!! Can someone please tell me if Paul has ever toured the US? I'd love to see and hear him in person! And he used to be a cell-phone salesman, with a voice like that??
Absolutely beautiful! I love the fact that he's at a shopping mall. I wish he'd come back to California (the San Francisco Bay Area) and do the same. Paul Potts is a welcome visitor anywhere in the world and receives a warm welcome everywhere he goes. A shopping mall in Australia or a major concert hall in Tokyo, Paul has the goodwill and the good sense to serve his public well. Bravo, Paul!
What a pro he has become. Not only has he perfected his divine vocal talents, but he is able to sing with such concentration in a atmosphere like a shopping mall! Gotta love Paul. Can't wait for the new CD.
he was a typical guy who selled cellphones and now, his dream came true, he is an amazing opera singer and that makes me strong to believe on his own dreams ....
His voice is stunning. As I watch him sing, I see him go to "another place" where the venue is irrelevant. He has my unswerving respect for singing wherever he can be heard. Who knows how many people will end up in an opera house for the first time after hearing him sing in a Mall.
PAUL POTTS IS NOT A PRIMA DONNA, he will sing in a cruise, in a balcony, in an opera house, in the royal variety, on TV, on a car, and yes IN A SHOPPING MALL,
i am glad that he can sing anywhere, regardless of who listens,
paul potts is like you and me, with an amzing talent, is just a regular guy that loves what he does, and that is what makes him a great performer.
long live paul, i am looking foward to a lifetime of singing. THANKS FOR being the soundtrack of my life.
holy shit!! wow!!! aamzing even in a shopping mall. Nothing anothing against singing in a shopping mall (maybe to reach a wider audience who normally don't listen to Opera), but why a shopping mall of all places? He deserves better at least! like others have said..... singing in a opera house.
These performances are part of a promotional tour for his album. He sells quite a few in these venues. Of course, he will have concerts at various locations in the future. He sang at a sold-out Sidney Opera House concert last year.
Another lustrous performance from Paul--but for sure he should not be singing in shopping malls anymore to promote his CDs. He is a great star now and deserves appropriate venues.

Nadir2711 2 years ago
I like him. I think that the real opera singers spoil the song because they sing it too strongly and don't put enough melancholy in it.

total fraud, a karaoke opera voice.
causabon99 2 years ago
Paul is one great classical singer now.
When you say karaoke, then you must be speaking of all the others, because he sang as well.
Go see him next Wednesday at Royal Alber Hall like I am, then moan.
Raw talent of Paul Potts has now been tuned up, and he just may be better still next year.

Awful. Positively awful voice and awful singing. Find this same song on youtube with di Stefano or Carreras. This guy is a fraud- a huge fraud.

He may be a fraud, but he is better than 99% of the artists in the American music industry.
sw2de3fr4gt 2 years ago 3
operabeauty, you do not suit your name.
Paul Potts is not a fraud.
Pauls voice one of best, singing one of best.
Surely to call people frauds is libel, when untrue.
By the way, do not like your Stefano.
