  • Thank you ...you covered everything. I have some blueish smoke blowing out the exhaust when I floor it,soon as I let off it stops, no loss of power though..who knows hope this test will tell me something.

  • Thanks for the how-to session! Hope all is well sir.

  • How do you get it to "zero" with the psi gauge at such a low pressure. Please do tell.

    Thanks

  • Learned something new. Thanks!

  • you are the fucking man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good video.

  • great video and awesome set up!

  • 5:38 = You've got mail!

  • how do you like that leak down tester? is it accurate and good quality?

  • how do you like that leak down tester? is it good quality?

  • nice bro

  • excellent vid, right to the point, i learn more from guys like you than i do at tech. school im paying 30 grand for, thanx for taking the time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice video very inforative it was all most like being in class agane lol

  • Very well done man! Thanks for being so informative.

  • What type of compressor do you recommend or whats the smallest size you can use?

  • Great explanation.

  • does it have to be on the compression stroke or just tdc? of exaust stroke

  • When i hook my tester up and zero it out the regulator guage barely shows any psi on it and if i turn the regulator any higher it goes out of the 0 and dont give me a correct reading i have the same exact tester as you

  • @1sick05srt

thats why i was saying the tester is shit but the method is correct all you can do is buy a real tester from a tool truck or just listen to the air leak

  • @1sick05srt Hey I have the same exact problem. When trying the test the left hand gauge shows normal 100 psi pressure but the right hand one doesn't show me anything but 0 psi. I have an OTC tester brand new from Amazon. When I unplug the hose from the tester the psi on the right hand gauge will shoot up to normal psi... What am I doing wrong? It seems to show by the right hand gauge that my car has a 100% psi leak but that's not possible because its not leaking that fast.

  • Very nicely done. Thanks. @red666a . You must have each cylinder you are testing at TDC. That's what he was showing on cyl. #1. It was leaking air because it was not at TDC.

  • Nice!!..

Can u check my car? Lol

  • I was wondering do you suppose to TDC on each cylinder to check for leak down?? Or it didn't matters??

  • first teach the dweebs how to test the tool.

but you win the best post on utube for this topic.

    im a retired mech.

    add that to you manual.

  • one of the few posts that are 100% accurate , CONGRATS !

    only thing can add,

to find exh valve leak remove FRONT 02 sensor, listen there.

and the front left gauge is not supply tank pressure its the tiny regulator

you are adjusting, just ignore the left gauge if above 0 zero.

see my other FOR HOW TO TEST THE GAGE, (im a test guy) retired

niice of you to simulate a bad cyl at 1, super job. jerry

  • jerrys pretest.! 1st off the left gage is NOT tank pressure, that gauge is after the regulator!! Idiot test1: set tank to 50psi (100 is max stay away from 100) the pressure does not matter the tool works at any in band pressure, because of the black knob regulator. unlock the reg knob 1: 50 psi. the end hose is unplugged this action blocks the hose.\ 2: set reg to right gage 0 (max) 3: plug in hose, (no engine)note 80 % about leakage 4: put finger in end zero 0 leakage 5: plug hose to motor
  • Nice explanation! Thanks!

  • - Great video. Good job man.

  • gr8 vid real helpful thanks :)

  • Can this test be done without taking the Cover off?

  • @MarstaJNZ yes it can just gotta take off coil and take out spark plug thats all

  • @1991GTR32 After I posted, I thought about it, but then dont you have to put it a TDC? Dont you have to take off the cover for that?

  • Nice video mate... now i just need to find me a tester :)

  • Good tutorial, explained well and never got off subject

  • thanks man!

  • Thank you for taking your time to do this sir. It helped me understand the leakdown test principles very well.

  • Good Video

  • Good video!

Goes to show you don't have to have an over price tool to do the job right, i.e. snap0n! Thumbs up!

  • I have one of those, glad some one else bought one too, I'm not the only cheapskate lol.

  • Great vid, thanks!

  • Awesome Bro, thanks

  • Dude your finger is FUCKED UP!!! man

  • @millagunnas

What are you talking about. I had on gloves

  • @bigodub will a compression tester work if I have valves not closing or not adjusted Right. Thank you.

  • Awesome. Thanks.

  • great video!

  • amazing video i have learned a lot

  • @1DarKsTyLe7

    Thanks

  • I've wondered how a leak-down test is done. Thanks for the video!

  • @devilsbox Yep

  • Awesome explanation on how to use the tool. Got mine from Harbor Freight and the directions were poorly translated. Thanks for posting this.

  • @bjafeman

Ya it might as well been in Spanish. But glad I could help

  • Great video, man. Informative and well explained.

  • @lite1979

    Thanks

  • great video. nest time show people how to reach TDC

  • @SupraKar

    Will do

  • I tried to post a photobucket link to show you what i was talking about in the other post, but YT doesnt allow for it. Another quick question, was your compressor regulator set that low or was there really more line pressure but the cheapo HF gauge just wounld register it? Thanks

  • @fckurvtc

Cheap harbor freight tool wouldn't let more then 15 psi thru it even tho the gauge went way higher. That's why it's cheap. A real gauge should allow 100psi thru. My compressor was set at 150.

  • Great video. I have a snap-on eepv309a, I think I need to take it back by the snap-on guy. My leak percentage gauge doesnt rest at 100% when disconnected from evereything for some reason, it's actually past the red by about 1/8" outside of the gauge range. This leads me to wonder if the gauge is now inop and it'll be inaccuarate? @ 1:10 yours is at rest but sitting high (from previous use?), but still in the gauges range. what do you think?

  • @fckurvtc

I would take it back to snap-on . There the pros it should always read within the range.

  • the instructions that came with this kit were garbage. thanks for the explanation dude.

  • @turbosix231

    No problem.

  • where did you get your gauge at? I want your engine by the way! Trade ya for a D15! lol

  • @salemcripple

The gauge you can get at the auto stow. The one I was using really sucks it will not give you true results.

I already sold that motor sorry.

  • @crombieposterboy

motor had less then 5k on it. but i run nothing but castrol synthetic

  • This was a very good video! Nice job on explaining everything you need to know on how to perform the test and different results that may occur as well as tips on figuring out exactly where the issue may be. Very nice!

  • @altereddimensions

    thanks

  • I LIKE THIS VIDEO. IT SHOWS HOW TO TEST ENGINE LEAK MORE ACURATELY. .

  • Your ceap Harbor Freight leak down tester is worthless. 10-15psi is not enough to conduct a proper leak down test on an automotive engine. You should be pumping in at least 80psi.

  • @TheIntruders

It was just a general how to. I hope everyone knows that gauge will never be accurate.

  • time or pressure?

  • Yea right where did you go to school? At 80psi you will turn the engine over.Your so FOS what is a ceap harbor freight anyway?

  • @1957jenny

Not if the the piston being tested is at Top Dead Center. Learn proper grammar and spelling.....child.

  • Yea right! Where did you go to school? At 80 psi you will turn the engine over! What is a ceap harbor freight?

  • @TheIntruders

true but this does show you how to perform it ,cheap tool or not.

  • Good Job on the Vid m8.Explained Thoroughly

  • @mickeygovender

    thanks

  • very thorough. well done man.

  • @duececaboose

    thanks

  • good job

  • @OneMoeAtheist

    thanks

  • good video
