Saying "...we are going to need to make cuts to social security and medicare in order to make our budget sustainable" leaves out a host of other realistic solutions, cutting defense spending, increasing revenue, even restructuring social security and medicare are three obvious options.
How are preventing the growth of debt and extending the debt ceiling unrelated? We allow ourselves to borrow more money, putting us further in debt. Then our government continues to spend more money than it takes in, and we're in the same pickle as before. WTF?
