For those who don't know, yes, the song is by ray charles, but jerry lee lewis played it, like he played other rockn'roll songs from other people like johnny b good by chuck berry and good golly miss molly by little richard. but every time jerry lee played a song, he played like it like anyone else. The killer's style!
The best version of this song, played by the killer is from Live at austin, he really rocked the house at that concert. i LOVE u jerry, god bless you!!!!
Hey dude, watched a few of your vids now and really love your stuff! Its excelent and has FORCED me to look at buying a piano ha ha :) How long have you played?
what song is this from JerryLeeLewis? i really like him, and i wanna know this song. i wanna learn how to play it. i cant beleive the tune and the left hand how you move the left hand so fast! :D most people would ask the right hand, but i can see the right hand. but your so fast and accurate its amazing! i watch it several times.
Its What'd I Say. He recorded it and had a minor hit at Sun Records in 61, I believe. Then he re-recorded it at The London Session in 1973. Its also a part of Live at The Star Club, one of the best live versions. =) Thanks for ur comment!
:D WOOT! i can really play rock, but, even though im young, i mean, i like, cant go THAT FAST, OR ACCURATE! what are you playing in the left hand? im a good player by ear but this song threw me off! :O
Listen to this again. Then listen to Jerry Lee's version. If you can't tell the difference, the only stupid person in this conversation is you. Stupid AND rude, I might add.
Great style and flavor--yrs ago a fellow tuner and friend tuned for a Hoagy Carmichael show and then was asked to "de-tune" the unisons a little as the piano sounded too "clean"--you are on my favorites
Very nice my friend. I don't know why some people expect that every single style of playing is going to be clean. Even worse is when those people, whom have limited range of musical interpretation, start spewing out knowledge on a style of playing they know nothing about. Whatever, as I said again. Fantastic job.
jeez look at all these jealous people! to me, these styles of playing seem more about groove and feeling than hitting every note precisely where someone else did on a recording 50 years ago.
I'm listening to it again right now and I had to turn it down to think. Look, no offense meant, but are you in another country besides the States? It sounds like you are. A loud band behind you would sound nice.
Its a part of my way of playing. There will always be some bum notes. I dont know why you listened again, if u hated it. Well I could've done this more sophisticated, but thats not the point, this is the r&r version. And if you think I read music you're wrong. Im not going to try to convince you, so go litsten to JERRY LEE LEWIS=)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you suck. I mean you really suck. You are bad. You fake notes. You slide across stuff and try to imitate. It's awful. I've never heard so many missed notes in my life and that's the screwed up thing. They didn't write any notes. Ray Charles or Jerry Lee played the PIANO. Not the skin flute. Why don't you get yourself a Wal-Mart thing with stings and pretend you're Carl Perkins while you are at it.
hmm... this made me think... Jerry Lee Lewis is still playing, maybe he should try a Wurlitzer electric piano... (of course, they don't burn as good as grand pianos XD)
Thats good pickin'! I play a little guitar and banjo, and the piano never really appealed to me besides Jerry Lee Lewis type stuff. Love the boogie riffs on a piano.
Hey, nice playing, I was just wondering what those notes were in the left hand though, not the riff that carries on throughout but the little flourish you put in at the end of the introduction (at around 00:11-00:13). Been trying to work it out but too quick for my ears.
thanks. Hm, if you dont have it already, I suggest you check out the albums: Live at The Star Club and The Greatest Live Show On Earth by Jerry Lee Lewis:) The piano is really loud on the first one, and its one of the most energic albums ever!
Thanks, No Im sorry. I dont. I dont know if anybody has useful sheets for this one. Anyway, improvising is what makes rocknroll interesting, so try without sheet music:)
