Oh they did,. Then they got punched out by the indians. In more modern times it's nautical equipment(ships and etc) and equipment for the oil industry(stole from the US and then improved)

If you are referring to the Deep Horizon, it got hit with a Gas surge that was many times the maximum predicted possible for the surge preventers which, naturally, overwhelmed the equipment. You might as well whine that a kid's toy failed to survive in the center of a nuclear explosion. Now that the designers KNOW that much more powerful surges are possible, the Engineers will take that into account.
