Sitting here with a massive smile on my face, this is what football is all about! It was great the first time round and it's still great the hundredth time!
Awwww poor little msn u didnt get their own way, one of the few refs who doesnt take back handers off the cheating twats!!!!, hate nakems but despuse man u, regards from the peterlee NME.
People can say all they want about this result and how Newcastle have or have not progressed since but that day was one of the happiest of my life. Geordie irish for life.
Referee was fantastic as well. Two early, big decisions went (rightly) in Newcastle's favour where more often than not you'd see them go Man united's way. Phenomenal game.
Okay, let's have it, Ferguson. It was the referee's fault, right? With a proper referee (and the usual 34 minutes of overtime), you would have won that game, right?
Philippe Alberts goal was just pure genius!.......the vision and technique was world class......Stunning goal, and and what a fantastic match. NUFC FOREVER!!
This video still gives me goosebumps, I remember I was almost in tears on the day I was so happy. The commentary from Tyler and Gray was top notch. The Albert goal was great but I can't but help loving the Ginola goal, that guy was out and out class, we just don't have match winners like him anymore. In fact, when was the last time you saw a goal like that scored in the Premiership? We seem to be losing all the long range specialists. Ginola was certainly one of them, amazing.
I'm an LFC fan but i admit this Newcastle team were awesome,The deadliness of Shearer, creativity of Albert,Class of Ginola who was a joy to watch,Srnicek 1 of the 21st Eastern European Keepers to make his mark on the PL. Experience of Beardsley. Although Man utd were not too bad,Cantona,Beckham,Scnmichael,Scholes and Giggs in their prime
If I could go back in time ala Michael J Fox being at that game would be the first on my itinerary. The most entertaining game in Premier League history.
This was a good Newcastle team... they just needed a world class goalkeeper and one good central defender (to replace Darren Peacock) and th title was theirs... they didn't need Asprilla...
We didn't manage to get tickets and didn't have Sky in my house then to watch this. I was too young to get in at a pub so I went round a mate's house.

That day will stay in the minds of all us proud geordie fans. toon army till the end. 5-0 over the munichs it was awesome. just wait till next season the toon are on the march again
I was working in Newcastle at the time. Some of the TV shops and larger supermarkets kept running the game on a loop for days after the match. Man Utd didn't play at all badly but they were well and truly shafted by a fantastic Newcastle performance. A great day for the players but especially for Keegan after his spat with Ferguson. Always a real delight to see Man Utd lose.
Ahh! Those were the days! This was a fantastic match and what made it even better was that Man Utd actually looked quite dangerous that day. Well done to both teams!
im guessing this was back in the day when you didn't have to billions of pounds to be good and the decissions you made on the pitch determined the outcome not the decisions you made with the money
Dunno if this vid makes me happy or sad,, happy coz we had a fantastic team and a fantastic manager (at the time) but how its all gone wrong in the space of 13 years,, however we will be back if not this season then the next,, Up the Mags!!
im 18, and a long life fan of nufc, but didnt really have these days because i was too young, i just wish they would come back, so we can sing the toons tunes at the top of the table, once again
I'm a neutral (well not quite, Bolton fan who despises (Man) United, but I love this game, and I love goal number five. Even I'll admit Schmeichel was one of if not the best keeper the Premiership's ever seen, so to see him rooted and watching like that... magnificent.
Wonder how St. James' will look this season! (no piss-take, just wonder thats all!)
no i just think its a stupid argument about a great goal. Schmeichel didn't stay on his line. albert saw the opportunity to chip with 2 or 3 defenders closing him down and he did so with real class.
people go on about Phillipe Albert's goal as being a great goal. I personally don't think it was. If you notice Schmeichel comes ridiculously far off his line when he doesn't need to. Albert is being closed down from the Utd defenders and it would take some shot to beat Schmeichel from there. But Scmeichel makes it easy.
yeah im still thinking, and you still have listed everything thats good about that goal. the fact is Schmeichel didn't stay on his line he went on the 6 yard box and albert delightfully chipped him, it flew beautifully over him. no im from australia

this has to be one of the best matches of the 1990's. the geordies are loud as ever, fair refereeing, amazing football and so many top players involved
So funny when Schemichel rubs his hands in the towel after letting in the second goal!! hahaha!!!. As if that's going to make his gloves more effective!!, he let in 3 more after that!.
The next day there was an advert for "Spot the Ball" in the paper. It featured a sketch drawing of Schemichel with 5 crosses drawn around him!!!hahaha!!!.
And yet, we still have more fans than most clubs, despite not having won the League since 1927
Now that's loyalty, and no, I'm not bitter over 1996 either

As a Geordie, if Newcastle won the league once in my lifetime i would be happy and that would be enough for me.
As for Manchester United and Chelsea, winning it once is not enough for them.
To them it's not a dream to win the league, it's an obsession.
I wonder what there players would do if there wages were cut drastically.
They'd say FUCK OFF!
It's just all money for them.
The rest of the premiere league fight for there dreams and take pride playing.
Money is of little importance to us.
