- I think this is a bullshit performance, and that the violinist is musically out of touch.

-Shostakovich wrote this piece in dedication to his closest friend, Ivan Sollertinsky, who died literally a year after shostakovich began writing the trio.

-I find it sickening that they thought this bitch was more important than shostakovich's intentions.

this is totally disrespectful to Shostakovich. its one thing to crap on Bach and stuff (still bad), but this is way worse...

a) she puts no soul into it

b) she's obviously bad at playing WITH ensemble

c) she doesn't know what this piece is about (or does, and chooses not to take it seriously).

and yes, i'm on my soapbox. but there are a lot of pieces i could care less if she butchered but please not Opus 67...

You're right, it's music filled with true experience of despair, but the one that don't know may be forgiven, as it's a painfull thing to experiment ; cutties shouldn't be concerned with suffering out of the bathroom (have mercy for the cutties) :D

interesting. this is outrageous as far as being faithful to shostakovich, but it certainly kept me listening for precisely that reason. It really sounds like a different piece, which is kinda trippy. She puts in a bunch of dynamics that are simply not there in the original, but it did make me tilt my head a bit. I can't say she has any sense of rhythm in her phrasing; she's practically a whole 1/32 off at points.

At first, I was amazed at how inoffensive this is in a way (excluding the obviously ridiculous staging), aside from the tempo change in the wrong direction and a wrong D-natural. But at the "really loud" part, I took extreme offense. This may be one of the most emotional outbursts in music, ever. And they are just running through it. I just played this piece, and my trio was emotionally devastated by the end of each run. Mae's a hack all the way. She really should stay away from emotional music.

Chamber music's all about communication between all the parts, which are all equally important. I don't understand why she gets the spotlight and the pianist and 'cellist sit in the dark. It's not at all how ensemble chamber music is meant to be.
