Ouch, sure was off on the BO numbers. Anyway, good pre-review. Your new style for awhile felt lacking in compared to the old, but you've gotten better with it so that its about the same in quality.
I suppose I'll watch it because my girlfriend will drag me to the movies, otherwise it's a rental for me I think. I don't like all the buzz being made around it anyway, I mean rottentomatoes gave it 100%, come on. This guys (facebook) decided the elections in the US, creating a buzz for a films is a piece of cake compared to it. The teaser with the words only and audio was somehow intriguing but it don't really call my attention the way inception did, I mean I was literally counting the days!
Meh, its a wait-till-DVD venture for me. Im sure it's good, but Im not big about dramas and none of the stars excite me(even though they're all good actors).
I’m not interested in the site itself but I’m interested in watching the film because I have an interest in seeing the formation of the facebook phenomenon even if this is semi-fictitious.
"... But everybody at the speed of light tends to become a nobody. This is what's called the masked man. The masked man has no identity. He is so deeply involved in other people that he doesn't have any personal identity."
wonder what that means for collectives like "Anonymous" who rather than fight against becoming white noise, actually lunge headlong into it, yearning the singularity instead of personal notability.
I'm VERY interested in seeing The Social Network (seeing it this afternoon). Probably the most obvious reason is its universal acclaim (Armond Whites don't count). Also, I really liked the trailer and clips I've seen floating around the internet. Seems like a quirky, thought-provoking film that is far deeper than its subject hints at. Keep up the videos. I really enjoy them. And this one was no exception.
With the people involved, no matter what the story, I know it would be worth seeing... But i actually do like the premise!
That's because I think it's more about the people, than facebook itself. It's also relevant to you, because even if you don't have an account, the majority of your friends probably do. As pointed out in the preview, it's about seeking approval/affection *by means* of facebook. And this theme of acting desperate for attention/sex is timeless, although facebook may not be.
I absolutely LOVE David Fincher. He's probably my favorite director working today. I've seen all of his movies many times. Now, having said that, I will not be watching TSN. He could not have chosen a subject that interests me less. Well, maybe if he made a My Little Pony movie, that would be less for me but that'll never happen. Still looking forward to whatever he chooses for his next project and I'm happy for him that TSN is getting rave reviews. That's to be expected with his movies.
@SavageVandar It's actually very good. It does have a Fincher feel to it. It's less about FB than it is Mark Zuckerberg, which is the right choice, but, it could have tried to go deeper. Still, pretty worthy of checking out.
i would see this movie, it looks worth watching, but im not like scrambling to go see it. and i want to see it because it looks kind of like the movie "accepted" with Justin Long, where teens are just trying to do something to benefit everyone, but the adult and dignified world wants to overcomplexify it. and i like Jesse Eisenberg too, but not enough to see this opening weekend.
this movie is coming out far too soon. the facebook story should wait longer to be told. also if i wanted to see a movie about a rich douchebag kid i would watch jersey shore.
First of all MPC your pre-re is brilliant. In my opinion it's one of the best ones you have done. Was I interested in watching this film? No. Will I see it now? Probably, because of the positive critical reviews. I'm not a big fan of docudramas because they embellish events. GIve me a solid documentary any day of the week.
@echo1v Thanks very much! Really appreciate that. I was a little concerned that there was too many ideas being explored, but then again, that's what "reviewing" is about. Thanks again!
I think the main reason is because people usually just love a good realistic success story where the character faces some realistic troubles on the way. The reason it's this movie specifically is probably because it targets the teen and college audience which are the general population of facebook users. Those combined with not much else being out right now make it popular I think.
I'm hoping the movie raises the questions you already have. I personally disagree with the philosophers mentioned, since everyone is always affected by somebody they come across, for better or for worse. I wonder if Zuckerberg (real or fictional) learned that lesson?
I use Facebook, but only for a short time every few days. My closest friends I keep in touch with by email or text. You know, the personal methods.
I would only check out The Social Network because of the Director. I feel like he's knows how to deliver a quality film whatever the source marital. What is not enticing me to see this is that it is misrepresentation of the people behind facebook. People are going to think that this is all 100% factual. And of course that fact the this film is not going to be relevant, unless with squeals, in a couple of years. It will be a dated film in the future thats for sure. Keep up the good work MPC!!!
Great work! You seemingly lay everything out that would enter ones mind after seeing this film (hopefully) and have a keen eye for movie potential, keep up the great work.
Once again MPC you have found the right words to articulate what is my head.
"Would we rather matter a little to most of us, or matter most to a little us?"
I love that question. It's exactly what I've been thinking ever since the beginning of this Facebook fad. And you know what I seen now? That question was relevant even before the Facebook fad, and will be relevant long after it.
Ouch, sure was off on the BO numbers. Anyway, good pre-review. Your new style for awhile felt lacking in compared to the old, but you've gotten better with it so that its about the same in quality.

Also, I'll again say it: You should try to get on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses Com. :P

@Exarian It's actually an exploration of character...it could be a little better in that respect, but at least it's more than just an advertisement.
