You should taken the back cover off. You can then get access to the hard disk and the battery. The hard drive has just gone on mine and I'm hoping to replace it.
Thanks, pal! Watching your "deconstruction" of the Archos was painful, but it cured me from trying to exchange the battery on mine. "No user serviceable parts inside", I guess. ;-)
the player served me soo well a really long time :( I havent found a actual replacement which that much storage :( but now at home Im listening music from my laptop, in the car I have a USB/MP3 radio and in every other case Im using my mobile, which sadly lags on storage (16gb and only 4-5gb of them are mp3)
the only big storage alternatives I found are those classic Ipods... but Im NOT a very big fan of apple, so I wont get one...
