Full straight pipes no cats. D16s Race ECU DTC works by cutting spark to reduce power causing unburnt fuel to enter the cats. In turn this would damage the catalytic converters.
ECU stands for Engine Control Unit this computer is incharge of Fuel Injection and Ignition timing.
DTC is Ducati Traction Control this bike comes with first gen DTC which works by cutting spark from engine to reduce power output when the ECU detects rear wheel spin.
Backfire is the incorrect term backfire happens when intake charge ignites in the intake manifold. In this case you would be talking about afterfire. Yes this bike will afterfire when DTC turns on because basicly unburnt fuel is being dumped into the hot exhaust manifold. Not really a problem on a race bike which this bike is centered upon.

Great sound along with impressive speed and performance. Awesome motorcycle! I can appreciate the elequent description of this bike after the test ride. Thing that really stunned me was its 200hp engine, but not really utilized quite well. I guess if you're going to make a balls-out superbike, best to utilize every last component to their full potential. It's still a fearful bike.

true, the maintenance of a bike is very expensive, specialy if you have a big bike. When i had the zx 12 the rear tyre made 4000km, and it costs more than 200 euros. The Honda NR750 was EXACTLY the same price as the Duke but TEN YEARS AGO! SO again, this has NOTHING to do with a price strategy per se and everything to do with the number of bikes that are made to spread the cost out over, and also the components and research involved. I own a 2008 1098 and yes it comes from factory with cats. D16 has a completely diffrent engine its design is based off of a V4.

n now my 999 n i hav 2 say gsxr was best 4 max speed n r1 was only good 4 showin off wheelys but duke is the BEST HANDLING bike out the lot! its like a feather; cost bit to maintain but the pleasure u get pushin it n the sounds of my baby r jus to die 4. MV agusta f4's n wateva comes by i role with my head high!

iv had 2 nc30's R3L & an R3M, both were my 1st bike's which i began my riding history on!
to be frank with u i belive they are the best 400's still in the market! but technology is old now! they weight so much my ducati 999 is much lighter then the nc30 as its a late bike and the meterials used on it are much lighter and then 2ndly the Ducati has soul wat them jap bikes dont have!
3rdly ofcourse its a much better bike when it comes to handling! iv havnt ridden anything thats better then it

Great sound along with impressive speed and performance. Awesome motorcycle! I can appreciate the elequent description of this bike after the test ride. Thing that really stunned me was its 200hp engine, but not really utilized quite well. I guess if you're going to make a balls-out superbike, best to utilize every last component to their full potential. It's still a fearful bike.

Man, that's a nice bike, I'm a Yamaha fan and I've always owned yamahas, but this Ducati is nice. I wish yamaha would do the same and come out with a M1 Replica for the public, then I would even spend $100K for it. But this Ducati is Awesome!!!

Ummmmmm no, actually. The Duc is UNQUESTIONABLY the fastest down the straight for two years running. Nicki Hayden rode and won with Honda for several years and had this to say about the his new ride for 2009--the Ducati: "I don't know how much they pay Casey Stoner to ride this thing, but it isn't enough--this thing is a beast!" He'd know. he has experience with both now.

If you study a litle you would know that there are differences in japanese and italian motorcycle industry, not just technology but also regarding to processes and quality control and also something called the stuff wich most bikes are made: steel. ok ok, peace and love lol. Its true, that friend of mine is a dickead poser, he likes to show the ducatis in sunday morning. But i like him, he is a very funny dude, nice person. Anyway, i like italian bikes, they look much better, specialy dukes and mv augusta, but desmosedici costs more than 50.000 euros. Bikes are for rebels not for the rich son of a stupid mf. true, the maintenance of a bike is very expensive, specialy if you have a big bike. When i had the zx 12 the rear tyre made 4000km, and it costs more than 200 euros. A big bike its a luxury product so they make you pay for it.Anyway 1000cc sport bikes are an absurd of power, you are paying for power that you are not going to be able to use in road. 600cc is more than enough.

i got a 600, but looking out for a 1000 after a 1-2years, so i can drive on low rpm(only reason!). with normal michelin pil pow i made like 4000km, it sucks! but now i got michel pil pow 2CT and i got over 4000km and i stil got half the profile. i pay 300€ front and rear now. first i paid 250€ only rear, but now i find a cheap place!!

my first bike was a FZR 1000 and i had 20 years...you are smart, figure it out. Also Triumph daytona 955i, KAWA ZX12 AND KAWA ZX636. And yes, i ride dukes, a friend of mine as got a few, 748, monster, 996? and he is going to be one of portuguese desmosedici owners. I like them, but they are superoverpriced and has reliability maters lolol...

The Honda NR750 was EXACTLY the same price as the Duke but TEN YEARS AGO! SO again, this has NOTHING to do with a price strategy per se and everything to do with the number of bikes that are made to spread the cost out over, and also the components and research involved. The MV Agusta CC was more money than the Duke and it was hardly cutting edge as this bike is. Anyone that doesn't like this bike is an idiot!
