  • @indigofuzzy Your friendly neighborhood chemistry teacher here:

There is no such thing as "non-toxic" mercury. bluebeltOompa was messing with you. Also, mercury 'is' dangerous because of the fumes, but also because it will absorb through your skin.

  • your such a great lecturer

  • We sucked liquids like benzene into glassware wth our mouths the sqeeze bulb be damned...lol.

  • You would be pursrised how many of us played with mercury--even the toxic kind--back in the day and suffered no drain bamage whatsoever.

  • Hehe.

  • no but non toxic mercury is totally safe

  • @bluebeltOompa And what is this "non toxic mercury" you speak of?

  • omg is it safe to put your fingers in toxic mercury?

  • The problem is not putting your fingers in the mercury, it's actually fun because it has such a surface tension but is very viscous. The problem with playing with mercury is that it vaporizes and then you inhale it and it stays in your for a long time. Back then it was played with a lot, has probably had negligable affects on most people, but it's still not safe.
