  • One of the reasons the Chinese are kicking our ass in the world today, stifling rigid and obsolete practices like this! Grow up man it's just a damn business card and not a real part of our culture, just something out of date business tycoons play with to feel important.

  • What are the business men saying while receiving the cards? something itashimasu?

  • What an up-tight society! I'm glad I left BEFORE I ever had to learn/do something this. *I was born and raised in Japan.. (just in case some of you who may want to label me as racist or ignorant)

  • Amazing video. I see I have done it ALL WRONG. Hopefully, I was forgiven for I was dealing with Japanese businesspeople in America looking to do business here.

  • @soaky4 Then they are on your turf, if it is expected here in Japan then they expect to be treated to your ways there. Feel no shame for they feel none for you.

  • i love the LV card holder....

  • Ewww, that "Please Subscribe" girl at the End is so Gorgeous!!!

  • 何て言ってるか聞き取れる様になりたい物だ。

  • this is really helpful!! one question, is there any difference for women?

  • only 3 video wheres the rest!?!?!?!?!?!!?

  • The quality is great but its been so long since the last video D:?

  • Make some more videos man!!

  • Great, high quality, high energy production and the content is awesome. This procedure, this process is SO important and respect is very critical. Great stuff. A simple but extremely important lesson.

  • wow I wonder what Japanese tourists think when the visit my country Holland:P LOL Compared to them were really rude:P

  • etiquette

  • did he just said "in this apeshit mysterious land of the rising sun" ??

  • Why'd you stop making these? They where so awesome.

  • Question: So shall I assume that a business girl going to Japan should get a Meishi case too? It's ok to stick it in her purse, right?

  • absolutely, you are right. You should get the biz car case. This is a MUST if you are doing traditional as well as modern type of business. Even hostess's have Meishi's. I'm serious.

Everyone I know just about have Meishis ready to be handed out in moment's notice. In my personal opinion, it's kind of awkward when people present me their Meish 2 seconds after meeting me. Anyways you could go through 50 cards a week depending on your business. Good luck!

  • Get a Meish case. Super important!

  • haha i see a typo at the end "Chris Gen" is suppose to be "Chris Glen". But definitely a good video.

  • Western people don't need business card.Because they don't use the character.

  • Hi Chris. Cool new video. Love the snazzy opening sequence.

What are you supposed to say as you exchange cards? What is the proper phrase?

  • I assume you say the same thing the guys in the video say as they're exchanging cards.:

    "Hajimemashite.

    Yoroshiku onegai itashimasu."

I couldn't hear the third line.

  • Did some more research and whatever the third line is, it's not really necessary. Most meishi exchanges involve simply repeating to each other:

    "hajimemashite (your name)-desu."

After that, you make a comment about something on their card, even if it's obvious or a bit dumb. Usually comment about their profession in some way.

  • This is most helpful, as I often hand out a business card when I travel. My memory is bad when it comes to names & I don't expect people to remember my name, so I hand them a business card when I am introducing myself. (These are not actually business cards, but Greeting Someone Cards). Arigato gozaimasu!!!

  • lol, im glad we dont have that kind of rules in europe

  • I better be able to teach in Japan when Im older. Ill claw my way through if I have to!

  • Very awesome video again!. Man your skills with editing and hosting are professional quality. Love all your channels!. Thanks.

  • Great video again! :)

I'm really enjoying this new series.

If possible though, could you put subtitles in for the parts in Japanese instead of the voice over? As a person studying Japanese, I'd really like to be able to hear as much Japanese as possible. Thank you and keep up the good work!

  • Dude, I think you made this a little too professional... It looks like I'm watching a documentary or something... I enjoyed your simple style a lot more...

    I don't know, maybe that's just me...

  • Great stuff man. May I recommend you do more videos in the (near) future?

  • Great video, love all the new music- really makes a difference.

What were all those people queuing for???

Minor critic, like others said I dunno if it would help for the bgm to be the tiniest bit quieter to hear your voice perfectly. But your the pro :)

  • i love your videos :) very professional and great content. do you do this for a living by chance?

  • FRICKING awesome quality and editing. Also i find the business card thing interesting.

  • wow, i find that so crazy!

really? so many details! it's like almost everything we americans do is something not respectful for them!

but anyway great video and hank you!

  • Thank you watching and for your awesome comment!

  • @Noemhy13 The Japanese are cultured and mannered, while the Americans are more of casual and easy-going. -No Offence-

  • Comment removed

  • @Noemhy13 There are a lot of details that you adhere to very strictly as an American, but you just aren't conscious of it. So you are either stupid either uneducated, and your remark is VERY disrespectful towards Japanese.

Please note that I am not a Japanese (in that case I would have said my point in a very different way and you would not have understand it at all, on the contrary you would have thought that I am polite and humble, you little brain...)

  • @becomepostal I didn't mean to be disrespectful towards the japanese. but obviously you DO mean to be disrespectful to me.

  • @Noemhy13 You're right I have the urge to hurt badly people who misbehave very strongly. You still don't regret having said that the genuine, intelligent, respectful and useful japanese habit of taking a great care of business cards is CRAZY. As long as you don't step back on that point, I'll still feel that you are a Hun. I could have said it in a more polished way (let's say by using some non-violent communication techniques that Japanese are more used to) but I was too lazy... Ha ha.

  • @becomepostal "misbehaving very strongly" jaja, how does me saying it's crazy how the japanese culture or manners are so different than the american's becomes in me "misbehaving very strongly"?

You are the one making assumptions about me and calling me a "Hun"

You are the one judging me because of a simple comment with no bad intentions that i made.

Perhaps you should try to reconsider yourself and learn from the great culture that you admire. That's the advice i give to myself and to you.

  • @Noemhy13 You said that a trait of japanese culture is crazy. Even if you weren't conscious of it, this insult is on the level of the "I want to kill you" and "your mother is a whore" insults.

The fact that you were not conscious of the level of the insult proves you don't think before use words.

I will not treat you in the Japanese way. Japanese say nothing until the day they hurt the assaulter (who wonders what is the reason if he is as clueless as you are).

I prefer clarity. I'm latin. Cheers

  • @becomepostal Do you know how I know you're gay?

  • @Tesorazorz I bet the answer you're waiting for is "no". Come on, tell me, you'll make my day.

  • @Noemhy13

well.. noone will kill you if you don't do it.

It is needed for very delicate top CEO or diplomat meetings. It is similar to people who learn to put their argument in proper way. They might already be excelent speakers etc, so they deepen their knowledge to reach higher levels(i.e. closing to perfect)

  • Great videos already guys ! Well edited and all too.

Never knew about the Meishi exchange foot-angle !!

    5 Stars .

  • wow chris your vids are now tv quaility great work, it could pass for one of those tourist tv show you see on the telly only this is way better. as you actually know about the local culture unlike the programs a get

  • Chris, when you meet someone who is a higher level than you, should you bow deeper?

  • wow. looks like it was produced for the travel channel or the like. And I would be totally screwed w/ the business card. I'm so used to shoving it directly into to bag and forgetting about it.

  • loving the new channel, one of the best on youtube, awesome vid!!

  • For a second I thought this was the discovery channel. Very nice, and thank you.

  • Awesome video, but it was a little difficult to hear you over the background music at the end. Otherwise, I can't wait until the next one.

One question, how do you put away the business card when you eventually do? Just normally, after you wait to show respect?

  • Excellent video!

Great production and great content. Keep these coming!

  • What do they say when they get the card?

  • I'm interested how much of this you made by yourself Chris. I think your job has something to do with this sort of stuff so maybe you did make all the fancy graphics my yourself? Anyway, awesome video as usual!

  • Cool vid Chris. you must have a big team to do all that filming and major post-production stuff.

  • My GOSH! This is a top not production man. This is really TV material, hard to find this great of videos on youtube. Awesome job man, gotta hand it to you.
