A distinction should be made. Dawn makes a transparent, colored, popular dish detergent that may be often miscalled "soap" but it is not, it is dish detergent. Soap != detergent.
Use real soap, detergent is more harmful to plants. There are dish "soaps", they look cloudy and are cheap generic brands or buy unscented bathing soap in bars and shave off what you need or soap powder.

Don't put it on buds, soap will dissolve the resin which is (was) the whole point of what you are growing.
