Very nice video. Good pictures, lots of information. I really likes watching it! For some odd reason I haven't noticed the cracks in St. Michael's before...
I think you should have mentioned the university, though. ;-) I missed that a little. It may not be big, but I dare say after four years of studying there - at least about my faculties - it's definitely very good :-)
What a wonderful video. The photography is really first class. What kind of camera do you use? I am surprised that you write your comments in English. Wouldn't it have made more sense if you had translated them into German? Just a thought. You definitely get 5 stars.
@Bernie1927 Thanks. :) The camera is just a cheap DV camcorder. Really, any camera with a decent lens will do: it's all about picking the right place to stand and getting the framing right.
Hey, nice portrait of my hometown :) congratulations! ... but you have to do a second part please (you have forgotten Willy "Me-109" Messerschmitt, the popes grave, Otto I. of Greece, the Bamberg beer war, Albrecht "the second printer" Pfister, the 800 witches, Hans Ehard, Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra, US-Army garrison, etc. ;) ... and of course your face after the first taste of smoked beer lol ... Greetings from Bamberg :-)
It's a really nice little town, a short train ride from Munich. There is so much to do and see around the area, and the people are very friendly and receptive to Americans. I studied abroad there for a year (08-09) so I could tell you all about it, or answer any questions you might have. (I lived right near the base and had a few friends there and it is also pretty nice).
Send me a message and I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions!
Yes, Bamberg is absolutley wonderfu. Let me give you a word of advise. Don't isolate yourself on the base with all the other Americans. Get out and see the city on your own. This is a city with a rich culture and heritage, and exquisite architecture. Also, meet other Germans!!!!
wonderful presentation. I am still amazed at the smooth voiceovers you do. Too bad you can't make 30 minute shows and syndicate them! I know I'de watch every one.
Awesome video, such a beautiful place and I loved the ending, such a cute little car, haha.
The history in Europe just blows America out of the water. I love the older buildings and landmarks in Europe from many years ago, that's one of my main attractions to Europe and a reason why I'd love to live there.
"The history in Europe just blows America out of the water."
I disagree. America's history is of a different quality, but consider: the deliberate forging of a nation out of nothing, the conquest of the West, the War of Independence, the Civil War, the Gold Rush, etc etc. Germany has city halls on artificial islands, America has Mount Rushmore. Find me a corporate sponsor, and I'll make "A Month In America". :)
I didn't mean that by like, the actually History. More so, like the architecture and buildings. You'll never see some of these buildings you can find in Europe in America, or as old as them. We have nothing like that, no buildings exist here from earlier than the 1600s. I just think it would be a site to see some of these old churches and town halls that date back as far as they do. There's nothing like that here in America...
I wish I could do that for you Rewboss! But I can't... :(
Thanks for sticking up for us:)) hehe. Great video Andrew, though I'm just as ferociously fascinated by Europe (and bored by U.S. architecture) as gombos23. I've seen 2 little cars like that in L.A. this year! I've never seen any before:)
The only americans here are the native people that owned by rights the land. The "I was here first rule of land" But Europe came and saw how easy was to kill the Indians. And the rest is history.
@rewboss Dude no way. I am living in a building that is older than the USA. I am drinking beer which is older than the USA. Fucking everything in Europe has a long tradition. USA is too young to reach the amount of culture.
I would use a tripod if I was there specifically to film, but actually I was there to enjoy myself and do other things besides spending time setting up a tripod everywhere we stop for a second.
Will da irgendwann mal wieder hin, hat ne schöne Stadt.
i live there you must see it!!!

This was a beautiful little tour. You present it like a professional. This video is worthy of being shown on TV.
I recommend viewing it in full screen mode. The subtitles fall neatly into the lower black beam.

sind da klebestreifen über den rissen in der wand? ;-)
Erinnerungslager 2 years ago
Haha, yes. They try to keep the walls up with sellotape. =]
EdEditz 2 years ago
Maybe it's to see if the cracks still become wider. When they do the stripes will show...?
DocHackenbush 2 years ago
Ah, of course. That makes good sense and I remember seeing that method used before in some documentary on tv.

@Erinnerungslager
Das sind keine Klebestreifen, sondern Streifen, die auf einen Blick feststellen lassen, ob sich der Riß weitet oder nicht.
