We have an update for you...and it's going to blow you away. Click on our name and see what's really happened to wild salmon since you posted this video about salmon farming in British Columbia.
If we lose the wild salmon and herring our oceans will be beyond our ability to repair. Say goodbye to the mighty Bear and Eagle and the creatures second only to us in the great chain of life, Cetaceans. Plenty of Orca says fancy. And darkisland says its profitable for no not perfect but a caring lady to protest the demise of the vital wild salmon. What a pair you 2 are and Danny boy you bring shame to our name Danny. I am with you Alexandra. because our time to change is running out.
At least she is trying to help the decreasing numbers of healthy wild salmon .which is more than I can say for all you pricks. Hey fancy ever wonder why you and almost all of the rest of the remaining commercial fisherman are X-commercial fisherman? Hmm cuz the fish are almost all gone! You greedy bastards are not going to be happy until we cripple the vital salmon and herring stocks for good are you?The last few species of fish we can still rape from our oceans. .
She is not saving she is trying to save. She is totally correct in everything she says and if we don't help her and our salmon that everything we hold dear will soon be lost.Your just wonderful and thank you so much for all you do.I can't even imagine how you have carried on fighting without your precious orca around you and my respect for you unmeasurable.
Thank you for making this film. I haven't been to the area in over ten years and have been concerned about how the salmon farms are effecting the Orca population. It saddens me that they are now not there. I enjoyed the book what the whales have taught us, and admire your work. May you have success in saving this area from the devastation of salmon farming.
patjoenkids-Look up orca/whale watching on the internet and see how many eco tour operators there are offering whale watching on the coast of BC. many of them in the Archipeligo, Do you think the industry would be worth anyything if there were no whales to watch. grab a figging brain
Norvegian Oil companies and the Norvegian State are so driven by greed that it is unbelievable! I wish there would be huge campaigns against the Norvegian Salmon Fish Farms. In Norway alone 1 million Salmon escapes the fish farms each year, and the sealice are damaging wild salmon and seatrout. In scotland, Wales and Ireland we see the same thing. Sea lice killing and destroying unique populations of wild salmon and seatrout. BOYKOTT Cermaq, Hydro Texaco and Norvegian Farmed Salmon.
SLICE is a light medication that is administered by professionals after strict, inspections suggests they may spread. The med is administered before the wild runs.
It is safe to the salmon and effects the blood for no longer then 5 days, in which time the sea lice die.
Sea lice monitoring vigorously continues year round.
Much better then they did in the past, no?
Dammit, people... this isn't the tobacco industry or the BUSH administration... it's just farming.
Salmon farming has come a long way, and many of Mortons issues have been addressed by the farms. Although I do agree that a balance must be found, and we must work together to find it, please don't forget that for PEOPLE to thrive in this beautiful land, we need jobs. And salmon farming is a good, honest way to make money and raise a family.
People needing jobs will always be a factor. Same thing could be said for a nuclear power plant. At some point we need to make the natural environment a priority. People need natural wild food-producing systems too. We're not saying salmon farming is inherently bad, it just needs to be done in a way that doesn't wreck the natural systems that we all depend on. More chemicals, like SLICE, are not the answer either. It may cost more to produce, and this is what the companies refuse to budge on.
Thank you for posting this video. Most people do not get information beyond the news sound bites and very few have actually witnessed the problem first hand. Seeing is believing.
I am a sport fishing enthusiast completing my masters in biology. Salmon farming is being forced to change as a direct result of protest and vigilance. Science backs our views as where money seems to be the key issue for salmon farmers. Are you really asking us to sacrifice the quality of an entire species for a few jobs? This is not the only issue facing native salmon but is one of the largest in my opinion.
What people like you fail to know is that there's people INSIDE the industry that works toward balance and change, and not everything that is good in the industry was forced on them by protesters.
Ms. Morton misinforms and attacks because it is profitable to her. She spreads propaganda and contradicts herself on a regular basis and it's sickening to watch the pot call the kettle black.
people like me? You mean scientists and concerned humans. Every scientific study done by any legitimate group of biologists shows a parallel in regards to salmon farming and its negative impacts on native salmon. Please don't be swept up by the small counter culture that has a large financial stake in salmon farming. Twice now you have subtly tried to call me names and attack my view on this. I view your arguement to be greatly flawed.
If you feel that I have called you a name, I apologize. That is not my intention.
I appreciate your views and find you and the person who posted this to be quite smart and enjoy the conversation that we are engaged in.
Let me re-phrase: It would seem to me that many people fail to realize that there ARE good people INSIDE the industry that works toward balance and change.
Actually I do not oppose farming salmon, while I will be extremely against farming salmon with unqualified fish feed. The ingredients used in fish feed should be nature rather than synthetic. For example, Astaxanthin added into fish feed as pigment for salmon should be haematococcus pluvialis algae type, rather than synthetic type. What's our objective in farming salmon, sustainable! Just use nature pigment now, fish feed manufacturer! Luoguanghai at gmail
simple. today it is profitable to have a cause. it doesn't matter if the cause is legitimate or not. NGO's can pick and choose whatever cause they want and get funding from organizations that will benefit financially from "study" results that support whatever they want it to. salmon farming is an easy one because, from the get go, in BC, people didn't like the aesthetics of the farms...it didn't look "pretty". the general public was uninformed enough to believe the speculation.
What will it take for the Cermac shareholders to realize that they are part of nature and thus "shareholders" in the natural world where every vote counts? Jude Abrams

Great Video!
I know that Orcas and many other animals need salmon to survive.
Oracs face so many threats that this is not healping.
Im so glad that you are saving the salmon and all that comes with the salmon!

Fair enough.
And I agree... of course their are a lot of things that the public are misinformed of as well.
Everyone assumes they know the truth, and not only "the companies" refuse to budge on their opinions. This makes it tough for both sides.

I appreciate you working toward a co-operative future in aquaculture, people should learn facts before they attack.
This is why Alex has been discredited by so many companies.
Maybe someone more reasonable, like yourself, may have a louder voice in the long run?

it is natural ingredients.
Farming salmon is a great thing, just like farming chicken and beef, only safer and stricter rules about what they feed to the fish.
Farmed salmon tastes good and has many health benifits including Omega3s which are good for the heart.
