I think this is the first piece I heard from palestrina, and it gives me no nostalgic feeling hearing it now, but is intrinsically the most striking of all of palestrina's work to my ears. The harmonic movement, though relatively rudimentary, creates more dramatic affects than most modern music. In particular the third theme, at 2:48, where (from a tonal analysis) the movement to the VI chord... it feels like I, even though its relative V in that case would be minor.
