Exactly. Mark Halperin (who, by the way, molests puppies) would never defend himself from a smear. Mark (who has raped more women than you've had sandwiches) wouldn't lower himself to trying to counter a smear or stating that the evidence was lacking.

Ignore the noise. Their strategy is always to attack, then if an attack fails, strategically back down slightly, demanding the right be equally "reasonable". And when we back off with a sigh of relief, they attack again.

It inevitably ends with the phrase, "both sides do it and should ... blah blah".

Why shouldn't we defend ourselves? The libs want Mr. Loughner to be one of us -- badly. They are acting like he is one of us. The pushback is obviously to point out their own instances of what they would class as intemporate political speech. If their version doesn't promote violence from them, then why does our version promote violence from us?

I doubt those who threw shoes at a picture of a Bush target would throw them at the real thing.
