  • What about piracy? People just buy a copy and then upload it as a torrent video. Then youve lost any control and rights. All your hard work is stolen and given away for free.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged

But people will still see your movie.

If you're in it hoping to become a millionaire, it prob. wont happen.

Chances of your movie being heavily pirated are slim. Pirating is primarily aimed at big business. Most video pirates DO have morals, and even if they do "steal" your movie, there's a good chance (if they like your work) you will gain a fan who will watch for more of your work and attempt to find a way to actually purchase it.

  • @FAQUAD2010

My video has already been out since 2002 so Im speaking from experience. It went from vhs to dvd to downloads. It was very sucessful but I will not make a volume 2 because I can see how quickly it would get stolen and wouldnt get the same payoff as the first one due to piracy. I would just be feeding thieves and not really getting much out of it in return. My video has been pirated in many countries and is now in at least 3 other languages and I dont get squat for any of that.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged

so, then, you've just decided to stop

making movies just because a few

people watched it without paying for it?

I guess it's your personal choice, but I don't feel the same way

you do about it. We're all entitled to our own ideas, etc.

So, don't take this as an attack, I'm just from a diff. mindset.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged prt2

    Also, as a side note...

How are you so certain that NONE of those who "stole"

your movie, didn't later purchase a legit copy?

  • @FAQUAD2010

If it were just a few people there wouldnt be a problem but its in the thousands. A video doesnt get re-edited with a different language easily so its obviously not just a few people. And the original english version is on every torrent video website there is. Google Knifemaking Unplugged and see for yourself. Your ideas might work for someone who just wants to get some fame in their choosen field but they will find it real hard to make money on videos today.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged

    I IMDB'd your title.

Actually rather interesting. I was looking

into this subject a little while back.

I would have to assume it's well done (based on piracy issues). Where does one find it legit?

  • @FAQUAD2010 Youre not posting my replies so it plain to see you dont want to hear the truth. You just want to spread bs on youtube to make ad money. Good luck with that.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged

I was replying. I've been discussing this with you..

I don't understand why you suddenly flipped out.

I dunno. I kind of see your point, but myself (everyone is diff)..

I myself would be flattered if someone liked my work enough to go through the work of translations, etc.

Granted, not getting paid is a bit of a pitfall.

For that many people to be spreading the movie, you must have done a hell of a job. Congrats. Unfortunately, you're right, in that piracy goes both ways.

  • great information

  • very informative, I liked the pace and information given here, will be checking for more videos. Is there a place to download these video in high quality. I'm hosting a free distribution evening at the edinburgh cine and video society where I'm hosting a night in the programme called 'getting your film seen'. It would be great to use this video to help convey dvd distribution.

  • Absolutely. We're so glad you asked! All of our videos are available as HD downloads on our website. We've added the link to this clip's HD version in the description (top right of this page). Cheers.

  • That's great, I'll let you know how the evening goes. We had a session a while back when someone mentioned your videomaker site and videos and word is spreading out among local filmmakers around Edinburgh. Our distribution learning evening is on December 3rd, I'll report back after that.

  • Thanks for the link, I had the presentation at the Edinburgh Cine & Video Society on Thursday which went really well. We had a good turnout too, interesting results as 90% of the audience had never used online distribution before which I was really surprised at. The majority of our members are of the older generation and it was interesting to see what their thoughts were on distribution. There was a common theme of the night with America being much more advanced technology wise than over here.

  • Excellent. We've glad it went well. Thanks for the update! Cheers.

  • Very helpful, thank you!

  • Can you do a video on how to get approved for Youtube partner especially if you are a musician? There isn't any unsigned musicians that are partner that don't do covers on their channel but many people are rejected for doing covers on their channel. Since you guys have some friends at Youtube can you find this out.
