@Neueregel Too bad you don't work for NASA, as they could sure use some scientific and insightful minds like yours... You should apply! This realization that they've obviously so far missed alone would save them many millions of dollars! REALLY... APPLY. Do yourself, NASA and the United States of America a favor!
@DrNothing23 Sorry to disappoint you mate, but as a European, NASA is not my thing. If they wanna spend billions it's their issue. But I already applied to ESA recently after my M.Sc., having my interview pending next month.500 Celcius is not fun, every kid knows that.NASA scientists should do the same and invest more in ambitious missions like Mars Terraforming for resource extraction.Venus surface probes never lasted more than 2.5 hours so there's no point bothering with the Venerian hell.
@Neueregel Not your thing? I'm sorry, but what was ESA's sad attempt at a Martian landing? Beagle 2. Maybe when ESA can establish even a landing of any sort, you can start talking down to NASA about not allocating more resources to Mars. Maybe when ESA launches a multi-billion dollar mission like Curiosity, your point will have more credence, whereas it has absolutely none now.
@UndeadPizzaGuy Don't wanna make this into a rivalry, but what about the abandonment NASA ISS launches after 30 years? You can't even launch LEO missions from your home country regularly now. Instead, you send astronauts from Russian ground. NASA's budget is totally shrinking. I call this a huge regress, defeat and disappointment of the american space program and U.S. space vision. Get yourselves together, before judging ESA which is a relatively new coalition with no as many expectations as NASA
@Gorilder There are few missions planned, one from each agency ESA, NASA, Roscosmos but there is not much info about them, could be cancelled due to budget restrictions or something. I really hope we will see lander, flyer or even rover in this decade, can't wait. Venus is closer than Mars and even more interesting and not so well explored, there should be definitely more missions to it. Search exploration of Venus in Wikipedia, the projects are mentioned there.
I don't agree with what people are saying that Venus should be left out of exploration. Venus had an ocean 400 million years ago, and would be a viable planet to do some research on due to the fact it did have an ocean until the sun evaporated it away.
@Axgoodofdunemaul well i believe venus exploration is sponsored by companies which are interested in mining materials there ..imagine full automatic harvesters harvesting metals and who know what else 24h a day ..we could make more and cheaper cars !! for example ^^

what are the using to cool the eletronic,? armonia, liquid nitrogen,, it would be ease to put a couple of rocket onto a asteroid with million of gallon of water and cratch into venus, it hopefully the temperature will cool down,,,,Ceres is a good choice.
well at least the gravity will be like earth like a 100 lbs man will be like 98 on vesus but the air pressure will crush him and the acid would melt him o well it will never be first man on venus anytime soon maybe in 200 years from now have to make a space suit too protect him from that kind of elements not to mention the heat
The Venera 13 lander surviveed only 127 minutes, while the Venera 14 survived only 57 minutes. The probes would probably still rests on the surface as of today...
I liked the solar powered airplane, but I think the rover won't do so well on the surface, not even the most advanced russian probes lasted only about 1.5 hours on the surface before being crushed by the extreme pressure, also the temperature on the surface is over 800 degrees fahrenheit.
They weren't crushed, they just overheated and the electronics were fried. The probes were built out of titanium to survive the heat and acid. (Titanium's melting point is twice that of Venus's surface temperature). The idea being studied to cool the rovers is to use a Stirling cooler (based on the Stirling engine concept) to keep the internal electronics down to about 200C (392F). Apparently NASA scientists believe they can build electronics that work at that temperature.
Interesting, I think I read somewhere that wind on venus surface is very slow, however because the armosphere is so dense the slow wind is capable of moving huge boulders with relative ease, a rover on the surface would have a hard time moving through the surface.
@wainstead I am very interested about geology and rocks from the surface of Venus.
At the temperatures and atmospheric pressure from the Surface of Venus many minerals that are rare on earth because are found deep in Earth's crust, perhaps there may be on the surface of Venus( minerals like diamond for example)
Or at least show me how did they get up the moon with the remains! I've seen the video of them falling from the earth with all these flame effects without being toasted and getting killed at the thousands of miles per hour/ 1-3 macs and falling from the parachute and shit like that...
You compare it to landing to mars it's fucking 100 times more complex than it is!!!!
Good, you can tell it's an animation. Darn, you have a good eye! ...And who in told you that they can't penetrate the atmosphere? There have been many successful landings by the USSR, and one unintended landing by the U.S. with the Pioneer Venus Mission.
You can enter "Venera" or "Pioneer Venus" on wikipedia for more info.
Another interesting question, "How did they travel like that removing the repelant and stuff that take them off earth's gravity and how do they get back rising from moon's gravity without these when they've reached the moon?"
Repellant? Like the stuff that keeps the mosquitos away? No, silly, there aren't any bugs in space, and mosquito repellant would make a terrible rocket fuel anyway.
Before going into detail, are you willing to learn how this achievement was done?
Are you able to change your views?

A rover on the surface will have to be made of pretty hard metal to survive the horrendous surface conditions.
A strong metal, for instance: titanium, or tungsten - although they both are quite expensive. Still, I'm sure those guys at NASA will figure it out!
