  • Thats Badass

  • Pouring petrol through the manifold is an easier way of cleaning it

  • Funny.... until a charred ( and now rock solid ) piece of material makes it's way into the engine.

  • Buy a new intake

  • And quickest way to crack your manifold also.. dipping it into cold water straight away..

  • you know seafoam works without the cool dangerous fire just as well

  • I just spent four hours cleaning all the crap out of mine with a coat hanger, oven cleaner, a parts washer and a power washer. Wish I'd found this sooner....

  • @LTDZach

$5 hot tank job at a machine shop, that's the right way to do it.

  • Thank you!!!!!

  • I like the way this guy thinks.

  • lol DWL it looks clean lol.

  • niggas goofy as fuck

  • Awesome bro gonna try that

  • I love how people ALWAYS feel the need to talk trash, "This guys trying to help people. Let's misspell words and cal him a

Fag!" I think the problem is that most nay-sayers are sitting around bagging on other people and never take the initiative to do something like this themselves. To the maker of this video, thanks for the tip. To the trash talkers please work on your vocabularies and spelling before you criticize others. Poor grammar just makes you fools seem more ignorant than those you cri

  • @Zerathomas agreed!

  • so I know they get dirty.... but what is burning? (other then the propane)

  • @aodhanof90 That's carbon burning. (soot).

  • @aodhanof90 old Dirt and oils out of it then u can take a air compressor and blow it out right away

  • Wow.

  • AHHAAAHAHAHAHAA awesome!

  • I did this last year; it worked.

  • there rednecks what do you expect

  • TDI = Redneck.

  • hahaha, "don´t laugh"...

  • Ive seen one of thoes intakes clogged up so bad that the motor was breathing through a hole not much bigger than a pencil. Need to drive a TDI hard occasionally to keep it clean!

  • i did this it worked great except make sure you have a tube thing on your air blower, other wise you will burn your hand really BAD i know because it took about 5 sec to melt a pair of welding gloves and almost couldn't not get them off so i put the air tube back on. I didn't cool mine in water so it wouldn't crack. its really hot and makes a huge fire ball. all in all save me 300 bucks for a new intake manifold. works great !!!!!

  • These are terrible ideas.

  • it's kinda like doing the old water trick in a running engine. just not as dramatic... not near as dramatic

  • I was watching it sitting there waiting to hear someone in the background yelling "WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!"

  • i wonder if that can he has it on is flamable....lol

  • Wouldn' t oven cleaner do the same task?

  • haha fucking idiot, your never gonna make it out the trailer park

  • Can I do this while its still on the car?? JKJK!!

  • OK that works too .........

  • No thx i like mine dirty

  • weeehoooo! @ 0:48 he is a redneck! lol

  • With $4.00 worth of electronic components from Radio Shack and a thin flat block off plate for an EGR gasket, you can BLOCK the EGR circuit and never have to do this.

  • @DrMotorDude your right. I used one can of coke cut out the can to the shape of the gasket then doubled it up so its the thickness of two sheets of a coke can then fitted it right on the gasket.

  • @DrMotorDude ahh wish it was this simple in the UK. Do this, then MOT comes along and it fails on emissions! -.-

  • @stuntcrazy8 If you do it neatly enough they'll never know unless they actually open it up or take off the EGR as part of the inspection. I live in a mandatory emissions inspection state and they don't know - BTW I've learned to be good at NOT talking when need be...

  • @DrMotorDude Ahhright. I live in the UK. Vehicles are subject to a nationwide standard MOT (Mandatory Ofstead Inspection) They stick an analyser up the exhaust and check the gasses that way! Not a case of doing it neatly over here!

  • @stuntcrazy8 Same in USA also, but like I said, it's not JUST blocking off the EGR. You have to adjust the electronics (parts from Radio Shack.) Remember, the EGR isn't letting exhaust gas into the intake all the time so unless MOT is doing the 'tail pipe sniff test' AS YOU DRIVE you can do the modification after the inspection and remove it when you know it's inspection time. BUT either way, remember cleaning the intake with a blow torch is bad for aluminum.

  • Just did this today, took a minute to get going, but once it did i had some flames shooting out about 6ft and it blew an unbelievable about of shit out.

  • чтото я не понял как он это делает :(

  • @JevgenyMuller Огонь сжигает изнутри загрязнителей впускной коллектор.

  • fire! fire in the manifold!!

  • OMG It took me like 5 hours to clean my intake....this would have been su much fast and a lot more fun!!!!!

  • A real redneck would just shoot it. Damn Nazi car.

    TDI FTW

  • I just used this technique on a 6.0L Powerstroke intake that had the same problem. Very dramatic, and very effective way of cleaning.

  • dipping the manifold straight into water when its still hot could cause it to crack

  • throw some carbon on there before you dip it in the water to harden it!

  • @brettwill87 The 1st thing I thought of.

  • ha ha bad ass

  • YES! Grateful Dead and a more efficient way to clean out the intake!! 5 *'s!

    Thank you!

  • Did this today ... worked great! Took about 1 minute.

  • Yup...this is pretty much what us TDI owners are like.

  • how i know when i should stop the flame ?

does this really give you power improvement, because i have vag car tdi with 300000km

    please answer me !!

  • sure if it is cloged up

  • The flame stops itself. You are burning off unburned diesel and carbon deposits from the inside of the manifold. The flame will stop itself when there is no more unburned deposits to burn. It may increase power, but it's usually pretty minimal. You would have to have a lot of buildup to feel any results.

  • thanks dude for the help

  • like a chimney fire

  • keep a fire extinguisher by you good chance of explosion

  • Nice "Fire on the Mountain" in the background, sometime I listen to the Dead when I work on my motorcycle too.

  • Hella cool!!! Nice pyrotechnics, and fun way to clean 'em out!

  • no shit, thats how you clean an intake.. i hope that can holding the manifold up wasn't flamable hahaha

  • CHoc full o nuts typically is the basis for most explosives, be careful!

  • UM... metal coffee can, not flammable

  • how come it doesn't crack from extreme temperature change

  • im guessing the wet towel draped over the manifold help cool it

  • itsbojan,

It does crack, they just start very small and if you do it enough they get big. The best thing is foaming oven cleaner and a steam/pressure washer.

  • simple, it's aluminum, a ridiculously soft metal that does an amazing job transmitting heat.

  • Aluminum is brittle, not soft. If it was soft it would be easily bendable. Aluminum snaps when you try to bend it.

  • is that grateful dead i hear?

    very nice.

    5*

  • Wow, I ain't crazy, someone else did it!

I came up with this idea on my own yesterday.. Worked great, but left a few charred remains. Maybe I'll try it again, I probably didn't do it long enough (worried about warping it)

  • best intake cleaning ever!!!

  • red green is the best

  • steam cleaner works better

  • join my TAI

  • You need to stay away from my car. Far away.

  • oh man!!!

  • In true Red Green fashion, any way you could work some duct tape into this?

  • now wouldn't that look nice if it came from the actaull car exhaust :O!

  • Do you have a before and after

  • Red Green would be proud lol

  • wouldnt u crack a intake manifold like this? meant for air not 750+ degrees

  • especially sticking it in water straight after!

  • I kno this guy is a retard!

  • I found that this works not only to kick out chunks of the crud that blocks airflow, it COOKS the gummy crap left behind that you can chip off easily. Made my car feel like a performer afterward (not to mention the smoke cloud after the CAT got cleared out).

  • thats one way to do it lol

  • I've cleaned 50 of these things like this. IT WORKS!

  • @ssvolvo Just don't try cleaning the ALH TDI EGR water cooler section like this. I did and the heat opened up all the solder joints on the inner water tubes. I had to do an EGR delete with blocker plates after that. The CEL light still haunts me (I can not afford to reprogram my ECU).

    Cool video keep em coming.

  • chunks!

  • How can an intake manifold be so dirty? Isn't this the exhaust manifold with all the grime?

  • Let's just say that it's a bad idea to put DIESEL exhaust anywhere but through the tailpipe... stupid EGR.

  • I was told to put it in an oven on clean cycle (REMOVE THE EGR IF YOU CAN!) but now, seeing this, I'd think the oven would blow up!

The towel and dipping are to keep the rubber EGR diaphragm from melting.

  • i'm gonna take a wild guess here doing that burn of the carbon in the mainfold cause by the EGR valve, and that same pricipal is hold a partical trap work on a new diesel engine?

  • lol good stuff

  • getting it hot and dipping it in water like that is a good way to crack/warp the manifold. how did it work out?

  • I was just going to say that. You're lucky it didn't crack immediately.

  • What does the wet towel do? Just stops it from getting too hot?

  • If you watch you can see chunks of gunk flying out of the intake ports.

  • Nice. Does this actually clean the intake, or is it just cool to look at? Also, do you want to dip the hot intake in cold water like that (warping risk?)

  • Sweetness, I did this to my Jetta's IM last night. Sounded just like a small jet. but i didn't wear gloves and burned the hair off of my right arm :)
