  • This makes me cringe

  • @zimmerman2000 u all americans are morons becoz u keep making fun of singapore saying their bad things and all tat stuff and thos who got caned deserved it they are the ones who commited bad things just remember this word KARMA if someone killed ur friends or family they get into prison for a few years and get out again and continue killing ppl thats not fair rite he killed ur family but still get freedom

  • Congratulations! Your appeal for admission to NUS has been successful....

  • this is quite possibly the worst commercial I have ever seen

  • so lame

  • The mom is weird...usually white women (especially the older generation) don't date Asian men. Singaporean men are hardworking and reliable, but not cute or attractive.

  • Yea! The boys in NUS Biz School are too cute!

Ps. I'm a boy and I'm in NUS Biz School. :D

  • The boys are cute , no chewing gum !

  • rofl, i cant stop laughing.

  • Any American should be ashamed of even thinking about this. Educate yourself USA on this society, you will find what everyone all ready knows that this government has violated human rights abuses for 50 years. Singapore is condemned for its continued brutal beatings of adult males-even for non-violent infractions. Illegals are even stripped, tied up like animals, flogged by sadistic authorities until bloody. The mandatory arbitrary use of the death penalty is savage-GO ELSEWHERE.

  • @zimmerman2000 i bet you got caned real hard back in singapore for a minor offence. Hence why you are so angry

  • @terryken18 If I did, then you understand what the end result of Beating someone is. It only brings about anger, hatred, revenge, and just more violence and hostility and It is called Abuse.

  • Comment removed

  • @zimmerman2000 haha omg is that seriously the perception you have in mind? That's totally war crime/ movie like. While the presence of capital punishment in Singapore is not denied, and the issue now is not whether America has banned capital punishment or not (in some states in America, capital punishment is banned).

But "flogged by sadistic authorities until bloody" is quite.. like i said war-crime/ movie like. and the term "Abuse" is actually quite debatable.

    fyi.i dont support death penalty

  • @hopeinmiracles0 I am sorry you find something funny about killing and tortuing people- I do not. You really need to research flogging in the sadistic state of Singapore as I know exactly what I am talking about. The shockingly serious abuse that currently exists in the city is sadly compared to Nazi Germany.

  • @zimmerman2000 anger, hatred, revenge, violence and abuse... All these sounds like America to me. Abusing their power, taking revenge on innocent muslims, torturing them as well... You pretty much summed up America. Now you know why they cant afford to capital punishment, because then at least 20% of American's will be in jail. And oh, do check up the crime rates in Singapore, most of the criminals are usually foreigners, not singaporeans.

  • @terryken18 Yes,, it is sad that it is Singapore. Cruelty, violence, and torture are all a part of the laws that govern this island. When you have to resort to these abuses to try to get to be crime free,,,, well you are certainly NOT free.

  • @zimmerman2000 sounds like you are a professional fail burglar who goes around the world to steal (and get caught). Then you are right, Singapore is not for you. Take a short boat trip south to Indonesia to steal instead. That place is heaven for you. you can be totally free (just have some cash when the police catches you) and happy.

  • @yunie6 Thank you for your vote of,,,confidence. The only thief I know is the one that runs this island. I also know what freedom is and I can tell that you do not.

  • @zimmerman2000 I know the different kinds of freedom which you do not know. For one, you do not have the freedom of safety we have in singapore. Second, you do not have the freedom of racial tolerance we have in singapore. Oh I heard France banned the muslim veils. Poor people. They have no freedom of dressing!

  • @zimmerman2000 Its sad that you guys feel sad about Singapore when other Western nations are making their citizens not free either. France banned the muslim veils. Kinda pathetic isnt it? And the western press did not bother bombarding France and say France has no freedom of religious practice and no freedom of dressing. This is a worse punishment then the laws we have in singapore. At least Muslims in Singapore have freedom of religious practice.

  • @zimmerman2000 bet you got caned real hard in Singapore hurhur

  • @typixality I am hoping more and more will be heard from the thousands of men that have been tortured in by the government in Singapore prisons.

  • @zimmerman2000 Those men who were caned in prisons deserved it. Rapists blabla.. I dont understand why people sympathise criminals. As long as you obey the law, theres nothing to worry about.

  • @zimmerman2000 ERM I am still fine. Haha you sound so hollywoodistic. Come one, if singapore were so bad, nobody would bother moving here. You should laugh at your thousands of Americans choosing to live in singapore over US. You can reason out that its becos they are blinded by money, but let me tell you, their salaries in US is definitely much higher than in singapore and yet they choose here. I wonder why. To get beaten up? Oh man Americans are so stupid to come here and get caned.

  • @MrJonslife Your comments from Americans, Western Press, France, Muslim veils, and what you think you know of Freedom, are very fragmented. Apparently you, like many others are in denial about Singapore's Legalized Barbarity. Though very wealthy and very foolish Americans may come, most Americans except those with morbid curiosity, would never nor should they ever even think of coming to a place such as this.

  • They obviously teach Business, but not acting.

  • I was thinking to apply to NUS while I wait for my results from US b-schools. But, after watching this ad and comments I am seriously reconsidering my decision to even apply.

  • Comment removed

  • the boys too cute???!!!!

anyway linniefan, ure being really shallow to talk about peasants and elites in such an infantile manner. maybe u need to go to primary school to learn some critical thinking 101.

  • Wow this advertisement is so..so.. arrogant?

  • The letters from Harvard, Wharton, Sloan and Chicago may be all REJECTION letters!

  • Comment removed

  • @penguin102 yeah but it is left ambiguous, and of course they wouldn't bother having their names written in the character's dialogue if they weren't suggesting that NUS was as good an option as the mentioned schools in the first place, letters being rejection or acceptance notwithstanding.

  • After seeing this, I'm pretty happy I'm going overseas for my studies <.<;

  • the boys are way too cute for my liking?!! where got. Singaporean boys are teh suXxoRz

  • hahaha noticed when the parent said... 'singapore?"

  • salah lo

  • Can NUS have some sense of shame? IF he is really good he would have gone to HBS, wharton, sloan or chicago. OMG idiotic singapore university. Those that are really good never need to advertise.

  • this is such an embarassment to singapore

  • jesus! what u dumb advertisement!they selling their image in a loosers way..watching this has given me sick and weird feeling about so many things concerning the bschool..lol..i dun think i have that respect for NUS after this...

  • the video is just a result of its low self esteem lah.

  • Loser NUS!

  • man, i think i'm gonna die of laughing.... lol

  • I would like to laugh my ass off!

  • This is a JOKE! Bloody hell, all the deans of the top biz Unis she rejected must be thinking "Stupid B*tch, we would not have considered someone like you in the first place, much less send you an acceptance letter." SERIOUSLY Knn. With promotion commercials like this, its no wonder no one from NUS have ever won a Nobel prize in econs. They dont even know how to market themselves cus this is back firing. Potential overseas students must be tearing up their offer letters wen they saw this add. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • gross, NUS, u're hopelessly out of your league.

  • That mom must not have very high standards for boys

  • that ad was wierd

  • This is insanely funny.

  • Till now I still think it's very funny, 'demonstrates' their marketing ability...haha...

  • haha.. imagine if the mom had said something like, "Singapore.. ? Where is it? Is it in the surban?"

  • LOL

  • Anws..Different people...Different views...Different interest...

1st on top is tt Singapore is Safe & Secure...

    Simple...

  • Perhaps it is a blow to the school that will take years to recover!

  • MOMMMM!!!!!

    I'm going to SingapoREEEE!!!!!

    Singapore??....

dude. her mother doesnt know where is Singapore...

Its funny how NUS has a quota of student intakes for locals, yet they have such advertisements to take in overseas students.

    pui.

  • Why would AMERICANS come to Singapore? Jeez, the top 10 universities are in the US and she chose to come to this puny country?

    What an ad!

  • @13WhiteFang37 Don't forget the UK

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • If only NUS would square away all this extra cash into scholarships instead of making inane ads! GSB in Singapore is such a joke it's hardly worth competing with, but the brand name of GSB is miles ahead of NUS so this ad just comes across as lame.

  • This video makes me sick for so many reasons...

  • o never mind i get it! haha i didn't have the volume on...smart ^^

  • i don't see any boys...

  • .......that doesn't look like ur house in singapore...well i don't remember o well. nice video, everyone wants to go to singapore! lol, aww miss singapore..:(

  • well the opening isn't my house but the boys are too cute and the kitchen scene and the beggining scene of the house not including the fake door was my house...

  • O ya now i remember!

  • it was a lot of redoes. and the part where the mom says the boys are too cute for her liking those wood panels are closet doors.... lol. Plus when the ppl came over and asked my family if they could film at our house i thought of Erika and told them that she would probably fit the part... Oh ya and all of this was filmed by a proffesional crew.

  • Well the video isn't that bad they filmed the mom and girl part in the kitchen in my house the mail part at the entry way of my house the pictures in the shot my family owns, the wall with the print is fake and the lighting all comes from a bunch of high powered lights out the back windows of the kitchen. Yea and the screaming part was done so many times... from oh my gods to high pitch screams. it was kind of funny to hear them repeat the same phrase over and over again.

  • im sure they paid 2 million US dollars for the mother and daughter to say "~~ SIngapore~~!!".. and another 5 million US dollars to smile and pretend to be happy.. and 10million for maintenance such that they continue to say good things about NUS business school..

And i have no idea how nerds could be cute

  • i cant belive it, even NUS promotes being eliteists... (is it really a culture in singapore?)im really having second thoughts considering this school... its values...

  • oh my god.

i had no idea you were a loser

  • oh dear old Erika....

  • well, what's wrong with promoting ourselves outside of Singapore? Do not really understand what are all these commotions about. Pretty stupid to argue over such small issues.

  • Wow you people try to defend your school in singlish... how pathetic... i know erica, the girl in the ad, it's real

  • haha. i love this.

    al.

  • So what..tehy are trying to promote so what u don't like..There are thousands and millions of peoples who like it..U dont like thats ur business but theres others who will like...So, its for people...There are 2 people in this world...LIke or Dislike...

  • NUS biz students sux..haha i fr nus(nt biz) but i dunlike e damn proud attitude of my peers..

  • Long live Dr M !!!

  • Spore try so hard but cannot win uphill struggle! stupid ang moh tv ad cannot change anything! you had your time back in the 80s and 90s but now KL is better place to live. more lively. Lets face it- KL is what Singapore aspires to be!! who wants to live in spore these days? sg gahmen try to promote creativity and arts? bollocks!!! spore pokai tsai

    Malaysia boleh!!!

  • Comment removed

  • yeah! more white chicks in Asia! haha

  • What a joke of an advertisement. NUS is struggling to compete with SMU and NTU let alone the rest of the world.

  • Is this a real advertisement in some other country, or just a parody?

Really looks like a parody by NUS students to me...or by somebody who wants NUS students to laugh out loud

  • i have siad that b4..i go singapore...now i am still in my country LOL

  • Lame and probably untrue. How come she didn't mention Harvard Business?

  • It's obviously more difficult to get into Harvard Business School that's why she didn't bother applying.

  • Singapore has not come out of its inferior complexity!

This 'copy cate' behavior in ads does not sell anymore but to those oblivious. Perhaps both the ad and some of the target students are oblivious. Mostly applicants are Chinese from the mainland. Many of them or either unable or unwilling to other than NUS BIZ.

Keep it up, you will get somewhere some day!

  • Only idiots will choose NUS over sloan or wharton.

the ad should be: preferred around the world by tommorrow idiots. NUS Biz school

  • Comment removed

  • why is this bitch still living at home applying for business school. will mommy and daddy pay for her grad school??

  • this ad really makes/made my hair stand. what twisted minds conjured this? some bus. ad students? but must say it's good that it's generated such a sensation locally... but sigh it's so completely untrue.. it's a laugh.

  • to corporalcharlie:

grow up lah. dun so childish.

  • u singaporeans suck. Can't u even feel good about urselves? god dammit i hate you people for your esteem or lack there of. god.

  • raceist i hoep u die lah

  • no corporal charlie is not being racist, he is saying that how come we are hating on the best university in our country.

  • Singapore prefered to be laugh at worldwide by tommorrows elites

Its like they want me to hate my own country

  • If you love your country, you wouldn't mind their misleading criticisms, aren't you?

  • FAG

  • Are you?

  • yes he is...

  • We may know NUS very well, but to foreigners, they have no idea at all. They may know Singapore is in SEA, in a central position in SEA, that Singapore is pretty developed and thus they might be interested in studying here to develop networks for future business dealings since markets in the US/EU are more mature and harder to break into.

    Plus, it's a new environment.

  • Had a lecturer comment on this. It isn't about whether NUS is the best. Is telling people that it's good until they eventually perceive that it is good.

  • The NUS Business School is an excellent place with outstanding standards for academia.

I am proud to be an NUS Business School student. I'm also cute.

  • i'm am only taking o level this year...i want to go NUS...haha still about 2 years more to reach there....but i'm coming..lol

  • I took O Levels at the year of 2006, now waiting to go JC and then army to NUS. Another 4 more years, grrrr.

  • u r a jerk.. LOL

  • It's embarrassingly funny

  • *CRINGE*

  • good comedy, thanks for posting

  • THIS IS REALLY FUNNY. I can't help laughing! FIRST THEY TRY TO SELL THE SINGAPORE GIRLS (SIA) & NOW THEY'RE SELLING THE SINGAPORE BOYS! We really are whoring ourselves out!

  • indeed we are. and the BEST thing is about it is, WHAT cute guys? where???

    JEEZ!

  • well the ad is right about one thing...We Singaporean Guys are CUTE!

  • we'll the ad is right about one thing...We Singaporean Guys are CUTE!

  • propaganda

  • foreigners wont come since they cant chew gums.

  • juz FYI... this ad is the brainchild of our ang moh dean. he didn't consider the culture of singapore i guess. the rest of the bizaders are in no way associated with the ad. an ang moh idea shouldn't tarnish our reputation.

  • to clarify... i don't think many ppl in NUS Bizad were involved in coming up with these advertisements. if they had asked for general consensus, I'm sure this would not have happened. frankly, i'm embarassed, it's even worse than the jeans ad.

  • erm, wtf lol

  • Kao!!Zhen hao!!!!

  • I know of Canadian students who were excited to get into NUS exchange program...but i am sure their conversations with their parents werent as cheesy as this!! Good intentions, but really bad advertisement.

  • in reality, no one would turn down the university of chicago.

  • Pui~!!!! LJ 2 NUS stupid AD

  • Hahahahaha!! I bet you are jealous because you can't enter NUS, that's why you say NUS is stupid, right? LOSER~

  • hey i actually know the girl in this commercial. she's actually my ex's sister. she's actually really nice, smart, and a good actress... but yeah i think they should have had some cute singaporan girl do it insted. i really highly doubt someone from america would come to singapore just to go to NUS.

  • I am from Wharton. I hope that NUS biz School can achieve the status of the Wharton as soon as possible. But they have to execute. One of the previous Deans was more interested in marketing himself and the rest of the former deans are of "short life".....

  • wow

this thing is on the news today in SIngapore

  • tiz ad actually came out in the straits times, singapore's newspaper...and ur comments were taken..

but its gross...having been in spore 4 all my life, tiz is so humiliating

  • About the argument on "quit" or "quitted" here's the answer: http://www.bartleby.com/68/31/4931.html

This commercial is supposed to be a joke right??

  • thanks NovaElf for the link.

  • i checked the dictionary...

  • ROFLMAOWTFBBQ.

  • I've very mixed feelings about this advertisement. Don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

  • having studied at NUS business school for a year and quitted from there one month ago.i want to study at a US business school next fall 2007 instead.i look at rankings not an ad.i can only say the ad made me more conscious of the low rankings of the school in the world.confirmed my action of quitting NUS business school for better schools in the US.me being singaporean.

  • Quit. Not quitted.

  • i believe i am right thank you.it's quitted.

  • i believe opinion156 thank you.

he/she has posted the most constructive comment thus far.

  • At least the ad was professionally shot.Never mind the blatant, gross misrepresentation. Someone should post NTU's tv ad on to youtube.Looks like it's made by 1st-year mass comm students for a mid term project or something. Jeez.

  • lame ad ... for a lame school

  • Well, maybe I shoudn't have gone to Stanford when I could have gone to NUS. Clearly, NUS is not there yet. Maybe in the next 50years or more likely never.

  • as much as i want to go to NUS next year, after watching this ad, i'd rather go to NTU and save face. hahahaha. who knows this ad might just pull the university's ranking down that it ever was before. i agree with LathAply. they should'nt have mocked/belittle other top uni's like that.

  • Who would chuck Wharton, Sloan and U Chicago acceptance letters for NUS business school? I am sure NUS will probably be on par with the mid 2nd tier schools in the US. The worse part of the commercial is the indifference the girl is towards Wharton, Sloan and U Chicago acceptance letters. It really shows that NUS does not respect these schools which are clearly TOP 10 if not TOP20 business schools in the WORLD. It's a really bold and shameless move.

  • basket siak... i don't even get good enuff grades to go ITE, they gif me letter go NUS i'll accept sia.

but still, they needn't make the commercial so cheeesy...

  • Girl: MOM!!! I'm GOING TO SINGAPORE!!!

    Mom: Singapore???? You mean.....

Girl: YES YES!! IN CHINA! (Deleted from track)

Mom: And i heard the boys are way tooo cute for my liking...

Girl: Mom, they're obnoxious and speak with a fake accent to foreigners... plus they have small d.. you know what i mean...

    I'm a Singaporen btw...Hoooooo!

  • Lol, thats a pretty cheesy ad. Btw pls spell Singaporean right ;)

  • HAHAHAHA you rock!!!

  • Having lived and worked in the US and Singapore, and having heard that NUS is as good as any Ivy-league in the US since NUS is infused with the "humility" of S'porean culture makes me ponder the mysteries of the universe. My friend from Harvard always feel so "insignificant" in Singapore since he is constantly reminded by NUS grads that they will be “tomorrow’s elite”. And the boys are way too cute for his liking too.

  • haha tomorrow's elite..yeah...geek....

  • yeah i do know who it is,

    Erika Szombathy is the girl.

must admit she was a good actress! And she isn't American either (Canadian!)

Singapore American School Class 2006 man I see her around school man

www.sas.edu.sg first picture! haha. Same girl.

Yeah i agree, silly ad huh.

  • Having lived and worked in the US for the past 6 years, I say NUS is as good as any Ivy-leagues colleges in the US. Think it's part of S'porean culture to be humble and also perhaps it's an ingrained nature that anything foreign is better. But I say, go NUS !

  • tasteless and arrogant ad!

  • How bloody awful and shameless is this ad?

  • wanna know how it looks like if the applicant is an american guy shouting loud "I'm going to singapore" and his dad pops up "Singapore? you mean...."

and they went together "you do know they don't sell chewing gum there" his son murmurs "hyumm...."

"and don't screw up singaporean chicks there!" his son cringes.

  • Of course she's happy. The rest are rejection letters.

  • lol!!!

  • Omg this reminds me of those typical 'wholesome-breakfast-cereal' kinda commercial. the soundtrack..the sunlight..the flowery wallpaper. Uuggghhh, cheese to the max.

  • And they have plans to put this on CNN. omg. I do want to be proud of my own school, but this commercial isn't helping. I can already imagine the top business leaders in the world watching CNN and laughing their teeth off.

  • u can say that again

  • lame sia, if u got read 4th june'2006 straits time , NUS is ranking 92 in da world leh

  • haha! i think this is how its supposed to work.. first US students r going to b impressed about us belittling their top schools... then they are going to ACTUALLY believe that NUS is better and come all the way here to look for some cute singaporean guys...

  • You guys better wake up ! National Uturn-nity of Singapore is the world BEST Business school! Harvard grads please go wash toilet!

  • NUS! NUS! #1 in the world!Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, NO NO NO! NUS is world number 1!

  • And we're not delusional!

  • gosh this is just stupid.

  • that is a self-promotion done in a bad taste. turned off*

  • The girl is Erika Szombathy. 2006 Singapore American School Graduate.

  • how u noe

  • welcome to NUS!

  • Maybe NUS should peg itself to more realistically? I doubt the person in the ad will reject Wharton and MIT (if you look carefullY) for NUS Biz School...maybe INSEAD in Singapore...

  • hahaahahahahahah OMFG hahahahahahha
