knuckel heads thats 8500 rpms it didnt even crack @8500 just roared. If you watch toms vids he raps them out realy f%$#@&g hard and they just hold together!!!!!!
@TheZoelzer2 well first less mass thats being thrown around. there are many people that have different opinions. i believe that short strokes and long connecting rods will absolutley help with rev capability. the stock sbc 327 will spin to 8 grand all day long. partly because of the short stroke and the long connecting rods giving in a very nice rod ratio which basicly affects how long the piston is at TDC and BDC which helps the breathing at higher rpm.
@ACHEESEDANISH00 I agree, a short stroke is my personal preference. The 383 / 400 mopar big blocks have a short stroke, especially for a big block, obviously helping them rev more freely than say, a 400+ cubic inch stroker or a 440 etc. I learned this after I got ahold of a 400 big block, it's going to be a beast of a machine once I get everything put back together. It came with lightweight pistons (keith black) so it shouldn't have any trouble spinning to over 6,000 rpm, hopefully more.
@DeAdiSSu3 if you wanna make a 400 rev high, get a 400 small block and put a 350 crank in it ... 377 built right hits 8500 rpm easy. Wont have the power down low a 383 has but up high its insane, sick circle track motor
@Leafsrule016 I have a mopar 400 big block though lol. It has a small-block stroke, however, same stroke as the 318 small block if i'm not mistaken, something like a 3.31 inch stroke, somewhere around there, I can't remember. But yeah it'll rev quickly with some aluminum heads that come with lighter valves and valvetrains etc, and with the right carb / manifold. I was thinking something like a victor jr. manifold with a 750 or 850 cfm double pumper for now
@DeAdiSSu3 I was talking about a chevy 400 though.. 377's make unreal circle trac motors, don't know a whole lot about the mopar 400 but it sounds like a similar concept of the 377
Ok, I may piss off some guys here, I got nothing against the blue oval, got a '71 Mercury Cougar with a 351 cleveland lurking under the rusty ass hood, drive it every day, runs like a bat outta hell. BUT I also happen to have a '66 chevy c/10 with a 396 under the hood with 4:10's in the ass and I haven't seen a tractor that that sob couldn't pull yet. My logic, they're both good so I'll leave on that note.
@Littlebluetruck1995 Exactly, the diehard GM / Ford fans need to calm down. Both of your cars sound like they're a hoot to drive, glad to hear someone else can appreciate all the classics!
+1 to that! I'm definitely a Ford man, but only a fool could look at the Camaro (modern or old) and think it is anything but amazing. GM v. Ford is dumb. Domestic v. Import, however... ;)
@JDPatriot Yeah I tend to always defend my domestics, I like Ford, not a fan of GM, but you know what? I think i'm falling in love with old mopars of the 60's and early 70's. Once I got my '73 Fury I started feeling this maniacal urge to burn rubber in the streets and give old ladys heart attacks with my exhaust notes lol it's the strangest thing!
@TheInboil Yeah Henry Ford sympethized with the nazis because they were so fucking dumb....you don't fight russia and america, you make russia and america fight themselves....
@pdgeman I build all kinds of stuff. The list would be too long to post on here. Mostly Ford windsor small blocks though. What do you build? My 347 is still pulling at 7k under load.
Dude are you for real ? seeing how I've been street racing since the 70s and yes even real Drag racing I can honestly tell you without question that while todays "windsor" motors are used alot in drag racing they WERE USED MOSTLY AS BOAT ANCHORS then because the Clevelends were king with the blue oval boys and just in case you forgot how many small block fords made 375 horse from the factory or how about the LS6 and on and on and on ?
@TheRoguelement Well, the Boss 351 was the most powerful small block from the MC era... and even look at today: The Coyote engine makes less power but is outperforms both the Camaro and Challenger engine.
And yes, Cleveland engines are the real find over Windsors, but they even used a Windsor block in NASCAR all the way to 2009. And btw, why did you even bring up Windsors?
@B0SSNINE Pretty sure 351 C isn't a small block...... And Just because Motor trend or car and driver say its better doesn't mean it is better. Engine doesn't out perform, Weight,Handling gearing, Driver has alot to do with it. Mark Donohue proved that.
@Blackmamba1997 It's not technically. And besides, I never said they we're. I said the Boss 351's were, which they are (Boss 351 and 351C aren't the same engine, btw). Never mentioned C&D either, but your right. Plus, they we're with the same driver, now that I look at it. I think you mighta read someone else's post and then replied to mine, or just got confused lol. xD
@Blackmamba1997 Thought you said the New 5.0s out due the chevys and mopars. why i said its the driver and the way the car is set up. sorry if it was the wrong person.
@jdjd181 you might wanna read the description b4 you call sum1 and idiot. chevy DID make 302s back in the 60's. id say sumthin else but im tryin 2 be nice rite now.
@CyborgbobaFett the First Generation camaro Z28 was a 302Ci engine,,, made to compete in Transam racing along with the boss 302 mustang,, it was rev happy bastard of an engine, if i remember corectly its a 327 with a 283 crank
