He took this melody from VICENTE AMIGO - tio arango. Its a marvelous flamenco piece. look it up on youtube. youll here exactly where he got this from.
@azkeyz That's how Valse en Skai was written to be played, and it is a beautiful piece that touches many people emotionally. Also, music doesn't give a damn what you look like, but I'm a musician and when you get carried away by a piece or song that you are playing it is difficult not to close your eyes and become utterly overwhelmed by the music. And opinions are great, but you, however, are simply degrading Dimitri Illarionov here, rather than politely listing his miniscule faults.
the piece is Valse in Skai the author is Roland Dyens, for you people compairing this to Paco de Lucia is evident you dont play the instrument, they are two very different types of music and each has its own difficulties, both guitarists couldnt play each others music so PLEASE REFRAIN YOURSELVES FROM COMMENTING ON SOMETHING YOU DONT REALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT...
@adamioso too bad you got both wrong. i just have a different oppinion than you and unlike you i don't think mine is more valid than the others'. you can either accept it or keep whining about it like a little bitch.
@adamioso oh i'm so terrified right now. you're so badass and brutal and shit that you can't even write "fuck". give me a break you moron and look for attention elsewhere.
His use of diminished cords is a little offsetting, however it adds a nice dissonance. As long as your not a fan of flawless symmetry then they give the music a distinct flavor. One I personally enjoy.
I have heard most of them - this guy is absolutely one of the very greatest. You don't like his face? - too bad - don't waste your time with sour grapes.
Beautiful piece! and played to perfection. If I play this on my Electric guitar it would sound like a mess just to much counterpoint and twangy strings :P
Would be interesting to see if the audience would like to see Bazzini or Sarasate solo violin played played on electric guitar
Wow, Dimitri is a world-class virtuoso, no doubt, one of the very best, fantastic expressive playing, so inspiring, thanks for posting this great video!
The comments regarding his "faces" are utterly ridiculous. EVERYONE knows that Julian Bream makes the best faces of all time ever. No one else comes close. Dimitri does have more hair, however. Those curls are magnificent.
I would like to add to the discussion on Dimitri's facialgasms. If you could make a guitar sing like that every note would make you cream yourself too : ).
@Pawsterr dont get me wrong. very trained, and very good...but im sorry there are just so many people who are better and more innovative than the guitarists that play at this kind of classical setting
@AcousticDude17 Dimiti Illarianov is a better guitarist in terms of technical ability than all 3 of the guitarists you named combined. So to say that those guys are better than Dimitri you're just wrong. As far as composing goes, I happen to like Andy McKee but his compositions are cute at best compared to classical composers and he does some nifty little techniques but they're no where near as demanding as what classical guitarists do....
@AcousticDude17 I listened to a song each of the others and I wasn't impressed. Try Andrew York or Johannes Moller for classical composers if you don't like Roland Dyens (which you should because the man is absolutely brilliant). Look up Quiccan and Sunburst by Andrew York and A Star in the Sky, a Universe Within and Ananda by Johannes Moller.
@AcousticDude17 not to antagonize the initiate, but, for example, mckee just open tunes to a "pretty" chord and does little techniques. ok pieces, but this, in a grand sense, is not composition. i saw your interest is music, music, music, so just go learn, learn, learn :) dyens is an absolute composition beast...i mean at conservatories around the world noone is drooling over mckee's arrangements. you kinda walked into this one, js, peace
Heh!! I guess slow pieces are your strong point!!! See? That's why I say better slow and beautiful than fast!!! This is far better than your interpretation of Las Abejas by Agustín Barrios. 10/10
@japenagosc You're sadly mistaken. For one, he can't play clean. For another, he doesn't play anything technical so it should all be perfect and it's also not creative. It's pleasant. That's about all you can say for it.
@japenagosc Fame means nothing. Look up Chon. He's not very famous. Must mean he's not good. I guess Nickelback is the epitome of a talented band. Good job, idiot.
@decimater75 there's no need to say "idiot". Please, be a grown up. Dimitri had done some good work (won some important competitions and done some important stuff in the classical guitar world), and he is one of the classical guitar players i enjoy to hear.
I didn't mean just fame, sorry if you misunderstood.
Of the performances from this festival, this has been my favorite. His dynamics and rhythm are extremely fluid, and his tone is really well controlled. You can see and hear the feeling he's playing with. Overall well done.

That man who coughed durring the performance says how utterly unimportant this is to anyone but the performer.
and I don't think he's really serious at all , not even for a second.
nope not fooled , it's just a piece that will get shoved on the back burner and forgotten.

how sad , he can't hear worth a shit.
he has no sense of note volumes , picks at the string as if it's a man trying to attack a flower with a pick axe.
how can they even dare to call this the best ?

and no I'm not fooled by his facial expressions.
